RETRACTABLE FASTBACK TOP
If the trunk cannot be opened due to a dead battery or an electrical
malfunction, perform the following procedure.
1 Remove the antenna if it is installed.
2 Lift up the rear of the roof by hand.
3 Remove the fasteners on the
passenger side of the vehicle.
4 Push the rubber stopper through the
cover on the passenger side of the vehicle
while slightly lifting up the cover.
5 Lift up the cover from the outside of the vehicle.
6 Insert your hand beneath the lifted cover and
loosen the cap screws until they spin freely.
7 Pull out the cap and release the trunk lock.
CAUTION: At this point, do not open the trunk. If the trunk is opened before
the rear roof is completely closed, the trunk may contact the rear roof and cause
damage and become scratched.
8 Close the rear roof by hand.
9 Open the trunk lid.
After performing this procedure, have the vehicle inspected at an
Authorized Mazda Dealer as soon as possible.
