Overview

This document is an assembly and safety manual for the Member's Mark Pro Series Pellet Grill, models P40220 and P40220-1. It provides comprehensive instructions for setting up and safely operating the grill, emphasizing user safety and proper maintenance.

The Member's Mark Pro Series Pellet Grill is designed for outdoor cooking, utilizing natural hardwood pellets as fuel. It is a robust appliance intended for residential use, not for commercial cooking. The grill features a hopper assembly where the pellets are stored, an auger system that feeds pellets to the burner pot, and a combustion fan to maintain the fire. The cooking area includes multiple grates: a bottom cooking grate, a middle cooking grate, and a top cooking grate, allowing for versatile cooking options. A baffle plate and heat shield are integrated to manage heat distribution and protect components. The grill also incorporates a grease trough and grease cup for easy collection and disposal of drippings.

For user convenience, the grill is equipped with a digital controller assembly and a digital control knob, enabling precise temperature management. Meat probes are included to monitor the internal temperature of food, ensuring optimal cooking results. A viewing window on the hopper allows users to check pellet levels without opening the lid. The design also includes a side shelf table with support brackets, providing a convenient workspace during grilling. The grill is mobile, featuring wheels and locking casters for easy repositioning and stability.

Assembly and Setup:

The manual strongly recommends using the BILT app for easy 3D instructions, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play. Assembly requires two people due to the heavy nature of some components. Tools required for assembly include screwdrivers (not included). The hardware pack contains various screws, washers, and pins necessary for construction. An Allen key for the hopper assembly is provided and should be kept for future use.

The assembly process begins by carefully placing the main firebox assembly (BA) on a soft cushion or foam to protect its finish. The cart legs (DA, DB, DC, DD) are then attached to the firebox using screws. Front and rear panels (DE, DF) and a bottom panel (DG) are installed to form the cart structure. The locking casters (DJ) and wheels (DK) are attached to the cart legs, with a note to use washers (D) to ensure the wheels are fully stabilized. The side shelf table (CA) is then mounted to the grill body using side shelf screws (F). The pellet lid handle (AB) is assembled with bezels (AC1, AC2) and screws (C) and attached to the pellet lid (AA). Finally, internal components such as support brackets (BB, BC, BD), the baffle plate (BJ), and cooking grates (BG, BH, BI) are placed inside the firebox. The grease trough (BO) and grease cup (BQ) with its support bracket (BP) are installed for grease management.

Safety Features and Warnings:

The manual emphasizes several critical safety warnings. It highlights that the grill is a heavy item and requires two people to lift with care. Failure to follow instructions can lead to hazardous fires, explosions, property damage, serious personal injury, or even death.

  • Electrical Safety: The grill operates on hazardous voltage, posing a risk of shock, burn, or death. The cord should never be immersed in water. It must be plugged into a GFCI-protected circuit using outdoor-approved extension cords rated for the appliance's power. The electrical supply cord must be kept away from heated surfaces. Unplugging the grill when not in use or before cleaning/servicing is mandatory.
  • Fire Safety: The appliance should not be moved while hot or in use. In case of a fire, water should not be used, nor should attempts be made to smother the fire. Instead, the electrical cord should be unplugged, and the fire department called. Never use gasoline or lighter fluid to manually light the grill. The appliance must not be operated unattended. Children and pets should be kept away from the grill.
  • Wood Pellet Warnings: Only natural hardwood pellets designed for grilling should be used; heating pellets or charcoal pellets are strictly prohibited. Pellets must be stored in a dry, sealed container, away from heat-producing appliances and other fuel containers. Ashes must be cooled before disposal in a non-combustible, metal container with a lid, following local authorities' guidelines.
  • Hot Surfaces: The grill's painted steel parts, especially when in direct sun or operation, can become extremely hot. Touching surfaces without protective gloves can cause burns. Shaded areas also become extremely hot when in use.
  • Clearances: A major cause of fires is failure to maintain required clearances to combustible materials. A minimum distance of 18 inches (45.72 cm) must be maintained on all sides from dwellings, walls, aluminum siding, windows, fencing, and any other combustible material. When operating under overhead combustible materials, a minimum clearance of 40 inches (101.6 cm) is required.
  • Sharp Edges: Some parts may contain sharp edges. Protective gloves should be worn during assembly and usage to prevent accidental injury.

Maintenance Features:

The manual advises against returning the product to the store for help or parts, instead directing users to call the Customer Care Hotline at 1-833-454-0864. It also states that the manual must remain with the product at all times.

The hopper assembly includes an extra 5-AMP fuse, located either on the cover of the Safety & Care Manual or attached directly to the back of the digital controller, for potential replacement. Regular cleaning and servicing are implied by the instruction to unplug the grill before these activities. Proper disposal of ashes is also a key maintenance aspect.

California Proposition 65 Warning:

The product carries a California Proposition 65 warning, indicating that it can expose users to chemicals including lead and lead compounds, known to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. Users are directed to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov for more information. A separate warning states that the product contains lead, may be harmful if eaten or chewed, complies with federal standards, and should be kept out of reach of children.

The manual concludes with contact information for Sam's West Inc., the distributor, and encourages users to share their Member's Mark experience at samsclub.com/membersmarkhelp.
