Why my MerCruiser Engine will not start or is hard to start?
    • J
      Janet ToddAug 12, 2025
Several factors can cause this issue. Start by checking the lanyard stop switch. Ensure you are following the correct starting procedure. Verify there is sufficient fuel supply by filling the tank or opening the valve. Other potential causes include a clogged fuel filter (replace it), stale or contaminated fuel (drain and refill with fresh fuel), or a kinked/clogged fuel line or tank vent line (replace or clear the lines). Also, check wire connections. If these steps don't resolve the issue, it could be a faulty ignition system component, which requires servicing or an EFI system fault, which should be checked by an authorized Mercury MerCruiser dealer.

What to do if my MerCruiser Axius SeaCore 377 MAG Engine runs rough, misses, or backfires?
    • B
      Brandi KellyAug 16, 2025
This can stem from several issues. Start by replacing the fuel filter if it's clogged. If the fuel is stale or contaminated, drain the tank and refill it with fresh fuel. Inspect fuel lines and the fuel tank vent line for kinks or clogs; replace or clear them as needed. Clean the flame arrestor. If the problem persists, it could be a faulty ignition system component, which requires professional service. In some cases, the idle speed might be too low, or there could be an EFI system fault, both of which should be checked by an authorized Mercury MerCruiser dealer.

Why is my MerCruiser Axius SeaCore 377 MAG Engine showing poor performance?
    • S
      Steven HansenAug 20, 2025
Possible causes include the throttle not fully open (inspect the cable and linkages), a damaged or improper propeller (replace it), excessive bilge water (drain and find the entry point), an overloaded boat or improper load distribution (reduce or redistribute the load), or a dirty flame arrestor (clean it). Also, ensure the boat bottom isn't fouled or damaged, and address it accordingly. If these aren't the issue, consider the ignition system or engine overheating. If the problem persists, it could be an EFI System fault that needs to be checked by an authorized Mercury MerCruiser dealer.

What to do if my MerCruiser Axius SeaCore 377 MAG starter motor will not crank or cranks slowly?
    • K
      Kelly KellerAug 23, 2025
First, ensure the battery switch is turned on. Check that the remote control is in the neutral position. Inspect and reset any open circuit breakers or replace blown fuses. Examine all electrical connections and wires, especially the battery cables, cleaning and tightening any faulty connections. Test the battery and charge it if necessary, replacing it if it's bad. Finally, check the lanyard stop switch.

What to do if the MerCruiser Engine battery will not recharge?
    • S
      sbennettAug 27, 2025
First, reduce the excessive current draw from the battery by turning off non-essential accessories. Check the alternator drive belt for looseness or poor condition and replace or adjust as needed. Test the battery and replace it if its condition is unacceptable. Inspect all associated electrical connections and wires, especially battery cables, cleaning and tightening any faulty connections and repairing or replacing damaged wiring. Finally, test the alternator output and replace it if necessary.

What to do if my MerCruiser Engine has low oil pressure?
    • C
      candice10Aug 31, 2025
Check the oil level in the crankcase and add oil if it's insufficient. If there's excessive oil, remove the required amount and investigate the cause, such as improper filling. If the oil is diluted or has improper viscosity, change the oil and oil filter, using the correct grade and viscosity, and determine the cause of the dilution, such as excessive idling.

What to do if the MerCruiser Axius SeaCore 377 MAG Engine power trim does not operate and the motor does not operate?
    • N
      Natalie CunninghamSep 3, 2025
Begin by replacing the blown fuse. Fuses may be located near the dash trim switch, at the trim pump, or in the positive (red) power trim battery lead near the battery switch, or a combination of these. Check all associated electrical connections and wires, especially battery cables. Clean and tighten faulty connections, and repair or replace any damaged wiring.

What to do if my MerCruiser Engine power trim doesn't operate, but the motor does?
    • C
      christopherlewisSep 7, 2025
First, check the trim pump oil level and fill the pump with oil if it's low. Also, inspect the drive unit for any binding in the gimbal ring, checking for obstructions.
