The manual provides comprehensive information to ensure a better and safer experience, and to maximize the life and enjoyment of the MOD BIKES e-bike.
Function Description
The MOD BIKES e-bike is an electric bicycle designed for urban and recreational use, offering pedal-assist and throttle-only riding modes. It is equipped with a smart LCD display that provides various riding metrics and allows for customization of settings. The e-bike is powered by a high-quality lithium-ion battery with a smart battery management system, ensuring long-lasting, rechargeable energy.
The e-bike features a display (1) and control panel (4) that allow the rider to:
- Switch the MOD BIKES on or off by holding the "i" button for 2 seconds.
- Turn the lights on or off by holding the "+" button for 2 seconds.
- Change the pedal assistance level from 0 to 5 using the "+" and "-" buttons.
- Toggle between odometer and trip information using the "i" button.
- Access a settings menu by holding the "+" and "-" buttons together for 2 seconds, allowing for adjustments to various parameters.
The display itself shows:
- Battery indicator
- Assistance level indicator
- Bike light indicator (on/off)
- Motor power indicator
- Speedometer
- Odometer and trip information
- Error Code indicator
- USB Charging Port (located under the display lip)
The settings menu offers several customizable options:
- Clear Trip: Resets the trip computer.
- Set Unit: Switches between Imperial (miles) and Metric (kilometers) units.
- Wheel Diameter: Inputs programmed wheel diameter for accurate speed results (manufacturer default; do not change).
- Speed Limit: Adjusts the speed limiter, which automatically keeps the bike from exceeding the programmed speed.
- Set Voltage: Defines battery indicator levels (manufacturer default; do not adjust).
- Set Power: Allows selection of pedal assist levels (from 3 to 9) and adjustment of each level's assist percentage (from 0% to 100%).
- Set Current: Adjusts for increased or reduced acceleration response; higher numbers result in faster motor acceleration (do not exceed 18A).
- Assistant Number: Programs the pedal assist sensor for accurate response (manufacturer default; do not adjust).
- Speed Sensor: Programs the speed sensors for accurate results (manufacturer default; do not adjust).
- Set Backlight: Adjusts the brightness of the screen.
- Set Password: Locks the bike and deactivates the MOD electric system until the correct PIN is entered. The default PIN is 1212 and can be changed.
Riding the e-bike involves:
- Charging the battery with the provided MOD BIKES charger. The charger light is red during charging and turns green when fully charged.
- Connecting the battery by sliding it into place and locking it with the MOD BIKES key.
- Adjusting the seat and handlebars for comfort and safety. For new riders, the seat should be low enough to reach the ground with straight legs.
- Using pedal assist, the throttle, or both. The e-bike can also be ridden as a regular bicycle by pedaling normally.
- Shifting gears using the right-hand shifter (1 for slow speed/high torque, 7 for high speed/better efficiency). It is crucial to shift gears only while pedaling to prevent snapping the chain.
- Braking with the right lever for the rear wheel and the left lever for the front wheel. Gentle use of both brakes is generally recommended.
Usage Features
The MOD BIKES e-bike is designed for ease of use and adaptability to different riding preferences.
- Pedal Assist System (PAS): Riders can choose from multiple levels of pedal assistance, allowing them to control the amount of motor support received while pedaling. Level 0 offers no pedal assist, while higher levels provide more assistance.
- Throttle Mode: The e-bike supports a throttle for maximum speed without needing to pedal, offering a convenient option for quick acceleration or effortless cruising.
- Folding Design: The inclusion of a folding stem lever (5) and main folding lever (25) suggests that the MOD BIKES e-bike is designed to be foldable, enhancing portability and storage convenience.
- Visibility Features: The e-bike comes with a headlight (6) and taillight (21), along with reflective sidewalls (20), to improve visibility during dark or low-light conditions. Riders are encouraged to wear bright clothing for additional safety.
- Battery Management: The smart battery management system allows for brief charging at any time without negative impact, as MOD BIKES batteries do not have a memory effect.
- USB Charging Port: The display includes a USB charging port, which can be used to charge other devices while riding.
- Adjustable Settings: The comprehensive display and control panel allow riders to customize various parameters such as speed limit, power output, and backlight brightness, tailoring the riding experience to their individual needs and preferences.
- Safety Reminders: The manual emphasizes the importance of wearing a helmet, protective clothing, and being aware of surroundings, pedestrians, motor vehicles, and other cyclists. It also advises compliance with all traffic laws and regulations.
Maintenance Features
Proper maintenance is crucial for the longevity and safe operation of the MOD BIKES e-bike. The manual outlines a three-stage maintenance schedule:
- Before Every Ride:
- Perform a quick visual inspection of the bike.
- Check the brakes to ensure they are functioning correctly.
- Check the lights to confirm they are working.
- Once a Month:
- Conduct a general visual inspection of the bike.
- Check tire pressure and inflate to 35 psi if necessary.
- Check and tighten the stem and fork screws.
- Tighten the wheels, stem, and fork screws as necessary.
- Every 4 Months or 1000 Miles (whichever comes first):
- Take the bike to a mandatory professional service by an authorized dealer or a professional bike shop.
Battery and Charger Maintenance:
- Always use the original MOD BIKES charger (36V or 48V) to prevent fire hazards.
- Do not leave the battery and charger unattended while charging, as they may get hot.
- If the charger indicator light flashes, discontinue use and contact a MOD BIKES dealer.
- Store the battery in a well-protected area, away from humidity, liquids, and flammables, at a temperature between 50 and 85°F.
- Allow the battery to cool down if it gets hot during use.
- Keep the battery away from water to prevent irreparable damage.
- Never open the battery pack.
- If the battery is damaged or leaks liquid, stop using it immediately and seek medical help if liquid contacts skin.
- For long-term storage (30 days or longer), the battery should be charged to 50% to prevent irreparable damage from being stored empty or full.
- When the battery reaches its end of service life, it should be recycled or disposed of properly. Contact local waste disposal or environmental agencies for guidance on lithium-ion battery disposal.
General Maintenance Tips:
- To conserve battery power, the bike's display automatically turns off after 10 minutes of inactivity.
- Keep the bike's display and control panel dry at all times for proper functioning.
- Avoid riding the MOD BIKES e-bike in heavy rain or saltwater, as this can cause corrosion and rust. Water damage is not covered by the warranty.
- Do not grease any of the following components: brakes, tires, battery, or electric components.
- Clean the MOD BIKES e-bike by wiping it down with a damp towel.
- Do not raise the seat post above the maximum-height mark, as this can put pressure on and compromise the frame.

- The 18-month limited warranty covers the main frame, fork, suspension, and the electric system (motor, controller, display, and battery). This warranty is limited to repair or replacement of parts, applies only to the original owner, and requires mandatory service and maintenance. It does not cover water damage, corrosion, rust, accidents, tampering, misuse, neglect, modifications, or normal wear and tear. Warranty claims require the original sale receipt and a signed warranty statement.
