28-40-00 - INDICATING
28-41-00 - FUEL QUANTITY INDICATING TRANS-
MITTERS
The Fuel Quantity displayed on the G1000, is the quan-
tity of fuel in the tanks in gallons. The indicator ranges
from E (Empty) to F (Full) with tick marks at 10, 20, 30,
and 40 gallons. Two triangle pointers labeled L (Left)
and R (Right) indicate the number of gallons in each
fuel tank. There are two color bands on the Fuel Quanti-
ty indicator.
Yellow - Caution
Red - Warning
The fuel quantity indicating system has two fuel quanti-
ty transmitters in each wing tank; one on inboard wing
tank rib and one on outboard wing tank rib. Each pair of
transmitters interface with the Garmin G1000 to indi-
cate fuel quantity. Refer to Garmin Line Maintenance
and Configuration Manual for system description, ser-
vice and troubleshooting instructions.
-CAUTION-
When removing lower, inboard access panels,
caution should be exercised, during removal, so
fuel outlet tubes will not be damaged or bent.
-NOTE-
Lower, interior side panels will require removal to
gain access to INBD tank rib, INBD fuel tank rib &
INBD quantity transmitter.
1.
REMOVAL - Fuel Quantity Transmitter(s).
Drain fuel from tank. Reference 28- 30- 00.
A. INBOARD Transmitter removal
(1) Remove Pilot or Co- Pilot seat as needed.
(2) Remove interior panel, LH or RH as needed.
(3) Locate & remove wires from transmitter.
(4) Remove six screws attaching transmitter to
rib doubler.
(5) Remove transmitter from rib.
B. OUTBOARD transmitter removal:
(1) Gain access through lower, wing access cov-
er outside of tank area.
(2) Locate and remove wires from transmitter.
(3) Remove six screws attaching transmitter to
rib doubler.
(4) Remove transmitter from rib.
2. REINSTALLATION - Reverse the fuel quantity
transmitter removal procedure.
A. A calibrated, certified torque application device
must be used to install the fuel quantity transmitters.
B. Snug each screw, then torque each screw to
20- 25 IN. LBS. in a cross flange- random order.
C. The torque and screw clamp load will naturally
relax as the gasket flows to a normal condition.
NEVER RETORQUE JUST TO RESTORE THE
20- 25 IN. LBS.
“DO NOT OVER TORQUE”
DO NOT RETORQUE UNLESS LEAKING
D. Excessive torque or re- torquing may warp or
distort the transmitter mounting flange and cause a
transmitter malfunction.
E. Make certain the wire from outboard transmitter
goes under head of insulating sleeve against the in-
board transmitter flange and not under the mounting
screw head.
F. System voltage should NOT BE APPLIED to the
transmitter terminal. The excitation from the fuel quan-
tity indicator must be current and voltage limited and in-
capable of causing ignition of fuel vapor if transmitter
wire is inadvertently shorted to ground.
G. Care must be taken to insure that the bottom nut
on the terminal stud is not disturbed when electrical
connection is made. This bottom terminal stud nut
torque is factory set to provide the correct terminal seal
preload.
H. Other nuts on the electrical terminals should be
tightened as follows:
#6–6INCHLBS.
#8–12INCHLBS.
#10 14 INCH LBS.
28-42-00 - FUEL QUANTITY SIGHT INDICATOR
The optional Fuel Quantity Sight Indicator, in the top of
each wing, are used for partial fuel loading only and not
for preflight inspection purposes. The gauges are mag-
netic liquid- level direct reading instruments. Sealing
between the gauge and the tank is achieved through
the use of Buna- N or RTV- 108 (clear) silicone materi-
al.
Refer to manufacturer’s installation instructions pro-
vided with each replacement part unit.
28-43-00 - FUEL QUANTITY ADJUSTMENT PRO-
CEDURE
-NOTE-
See Section 24-33-00 for Low Fuel warning
calibration.
For fuel system calibration, refer to Garmin “G1000
Post Installation Checkout” Mooney M20 Revision B or
later.
Fuel transmitter test ohms (Rochester Gauges, Inc.)
are as follows: (if Removed & Checked)
0to0.5OHMatEMPTY
31 +/- 2 OHM at FULL
0.5 to 1.5 OHM with float 0.040 off EMPTY stop
