Engine Fuel System Schematic (Fig. 73- 1)
73- 20-00 - CONTROLLING
See Section 71-00-50 for Engine Set Up and Idle/Mix-
ture Adjustments.
73-30-00 - FUEL FLOW INDICATING
A turbine type fuel flow transducer and signal compat-
ible, interpretive indicators are installed on the M20V
aircraft.
73-31-00 - PANE L MOUNTED INSTRUMENTS
73-31-01 - GARMIN G1000
M20V aircraft equipped with the Garmin G1000 system
utilize transducer signals from the CMI powerplant and
airframe components to provide cockpit display data.
The Fuel Pressure indicator displays current fuel sys-
tem pressure in pounds per square inch (PSI).
Green - Normal
Yellow - Caution (low and high)
Red - Warning (minimum and maximum)
Refer to the Garmin publications for Operation, Mainte-
nance and Troubleshooting procedures.
73-31-02 - FUEL FLOW TRANSDUCER
1. The turbine fuel flow transducer, mounted in en-
gine fuel line, measures flow of fuel. Transducer is
rated for continuous operation to 60 gallons per hour. In
addition, the transducer is accurate down to 0.6 gallons
per hour.
2. T ransducer supplies Garmin G1000 GEA 71 En-
gine/Airframe Unit with a pulse signal from a self con-
tained opto- electronic pickup. A neutrally buoyant ro-
tor spins with fuel flow between V- jeweled bearings.
Rotor movement is sensed when notches in rotor inter-
rupt an infra- red light beam between a light emitting
diode and a photo- transistor.
3. Transducer design is fail safe; complete rotor
blockage cannot interrupt fuel flow. Transducer life ex-
pectancy is 1500 hours.
-NOTE-
Transducers are categorized by number of pulses
per second output for a given GPH flow rate (“K-
Factor”). This will be noted as: L, M, H, or HH
scribed on end of Serial Number. For accurate
readings, replacement transducers should have
same “K” factor as units being replaced. Specify
“K” factor code when ordering new transducers.
4. Fuel flow transducer removal/replacement.
A. Turn Master Switch - OFF.
B. Turn Fuel Selector Valve to - OFF.
C. Remove top cowling from aircraft. S ee Section
71-10-00 for procedures.
D. Remove 2 breeze clamps securing firesleeve
on both sides of fuel flow transducer.
E. Slide firesleeve off fuel lines/fuel flow transduc-
er.
F. Cut and remove ty- raps securing electrical
wires.
G. Slide insulation sleeving up on electrical wire
harness.
H. Disconnect transducer electrical harness from
aircraft harness.
I. Locate and disconnect fuel lines attached to
adapter fitting and elbow on the inlet and outlet ports of
the fuel flow transducer. Note position (orientation) of
fittings so fittings can be placed in similar position on
the new fuel flow transducer (if replacing transducer).
J. Cap all lines to prevent contamination.
5. Fuel flow transducer (replacement) installation.
-NOTE-
“K” factor of replacement transducer should
match “K” factor of replaced unit. Refer to
“
NOTE” following Section 73-31-02, for detailed
explanation.
-CAUTION-
Exercise extreme caution to avoid “stringing”
sealer across the ends of the fittings.
A. Apply Permatex or Loctite Silver Grade anti-
seize lubricant to the male pipe threads only (omitting
the first 2 threads) on adapter fitting and elbow threads
to be mated to the transducer.
-CAUTION-
Make sure lines are not being put into a bind
or twist when securing transducer to bracket.
B. Install adapter fitting and elbow in inlet/outlet
ports on new transducer. Refer to step 4., I above for
orientation of adapter fitting and elbow. Torque adapter
fitting and elbow to 40 in. lbs. Torque adapter fitting and
elbow to desired orientation on transducer not to ex-
ceed 65 in. lbs.
C. Install new fuel flow transducer with firesleeve
and clamps (2 qty.) on mounting bracket using attach-
ing hardware.
D. Attach fuel lines to the transducer adapter fitting
and elbow. Torque fuel line attaching nuts to 50 in. lbs.
minimum/90 in. lbs. maximum.
-CAUTION-
Do not pinch electrical connector wiring be-
tween transducer attaching hardware and
mounting bracket.
E. Connect fuel flow transducer electrical harness
to aircraft harness.
F. Extend ends of firesleeve over fittings and tight-
en breeze clamps to secure firesleeve in position.
Test for fuel leaks and bleed air from fuel system at fuel
flow transducer following these steps:
