Combustion Air
It is vitally important that your stove has sucient combustion air available to it. A substantial volume
of air is drawn through the stove over a period of time. (The resultant movement of air has a ben-
ecial eect on the air quality of the house as a whole). But this air has to come from somewhere.
Should the house be reasonably well sealed against wind and weather, it may be neccesary to pro-
vide an air brick to allow the stove to breath. In older and less well sealed properties, there may be
sucient air supply already. However, poor air supply will stie the re and prevent your stove from
working eectively; it is always advisable to check with your dealer on this point.
1.2 Positioning the stove
Your Panther should be placed not less than 300 mm from any combustible wall material. The
separation from non-combustible materials such as brick and stone should not be less than 100-
150 mm to allow for all-round cleaning. The stove must sit on a non-combustible and solid surface.
This should project at least 300 mm in front of the stove and 150 mm beyond its sides.
Furniture
The distance to combustible material in front of the stove should be at least 700 mm. This
distance is roughly where the temperature reaching surrounding furniture will be about 80
degrees Celsius or less, even un der heavy ring. It is up to you to decide if the heat close to
the stove is sucient to scorch or discolour the furniture.
1.3 The chimney/ue system
The ue must be soundly constructed and suciently well insulated if the stove is to give a
good performance. A minimum height from the top of the stove must be four meters.
Some existing ues are suitable, but do not use a gasliner or asbestos piping that may be
left in position from the previous appliance.
Flue size
A minimum of six inches diameter will be neccesary. Flues of a slightly larger size may be
suitable, but do not use a smaller ue than this.
Cleaning access
Access for cleaning must be provided so that the full length of the ue can be swept.
Insulation of the ue
A well insulated ue will keep the ue gases hot as they travel upwards, oering a good draught
and therefore good control over the re. A poorly insulated ue will allow the ue gases to cool
and therefore slow down, resulting in a sluggish and uncontrollable performance. A poorly insu-
lated ue will also encourage the settling out of solids and vapours from the ue gases, resulting
in a much reduced period between ue sweeping operations.
Flue height
A minimum of four meters of ue is necessary in any case. The height of the ue relative to
roof structures is important, and is covered by various regulations and ue manufacturers’
recommendations. The aim of all of these is to get the top of the ue up into clean air (away
from turbulence from the roof structure) by the straightest possible route.
Don’t compromise
It is strongly advisable to consult with your Morsø dealer, rather than risk a disap-pointing
performance from your ue and therefore from your stove.
- It is worth remembering that almost all problems to do with poor stove performance are
related directly to the quality of the ue.
