The Mosquito Magnet® Patriot Plus is an advanced mosquito control system designed for outdoor use, utilizing patented Counterflow™ Technology to attract and capture mosquitoes. This system mimics human breath by converting propane to carbon dioxide (CO2) and combining it with subtle skin scents, which are known attractants for mosquitoes. The trap is designed to be silent and odorless, targeting only mosquitoes and not beneficial insects like butterflies, bees, or moths.
Function Description:
The core of the Mosquito Magnet® Patriot Plus's operation lies in its patented Counterflow™ Technology. This system works by first converting propane gas into CO2 through a catalytic conversion process. This CO2, along with heat and moisture, is then expelled in a silent, odorless plume, mimicking human breath. In addition to CO2, the trap releases a short-range attractant that further enhances its ability to lure mosquitoes. As mosquitoes approach the trap, drawn by these attractants, they are vacuumed into a bug bag by a high-power fan. Once trapped in the bug bag, the mosquitoes dehydrate and die within 24 hours. The trap is designed for continuous 24/7 operation, ensuring constant protection against mosquitoes. It begins catching mosquitoes immediately upon activation.
Usage Features:
The Mosquito Magnet® Patriot Plus is designed for ease of use and simple assembly. It features a one-button, computer-controlled operation, making it straightforward to start and manage. The trap is ideal for large yards and should be placed up to 15.24 meters (50 ft) away from the nearest power source. For optimal placement, it is recommended to position the trap upwind, 9-12 meters (30-40 ft) in front of the area to be protected, and within 1.5-1.8 meters (5-6 ft) of mosquito habitats such as standing water, bushes, or flowerbeds. The trap should be placed on level ground to prevent tipping and uneven propane distribution, and it is recommended to place it in the shade. It is important not to place the trap directly above a water source like sprinklers or hoses. The unit comes with a fold-up base for easy, compact storage and wheels for easy placement. The power cord is 15 meters (50 ft) long and includes metal clips for burying it, ensuring safety and an uncluttered yard. The trap is weather-resistant and can be left running in the rain. It also features advanced diagnostic features for easy monitoring. A self-regulated propane shut-off valve is included for added safety, and a tank stability guardrail helps secure the propane tank. The propane tank is sold separately and typically lasts 21 days with continuous operation.
Maintenance Features:
Routine maintenance is crucial for the optimal performance of the Mosquito Magnet® Patriot Plus. The trap operates on a 21-day maintenance cycle, which involves refilling the propane tank, replacing the short-range attractant cartridge (such as Octenol), and emptying or replacing the bug bag. The self-contained bug bag eliminates the need to touch mosquitoes directly. For optimal air flow, the bug bag should be replaced every 21 days or sooner if full. A Quick Clear adapter is supplied and recommended for use at every tank change to clear the gas nozzle of contaminants, preventing clogging due to impurities in the propane. This adapter is also recommended for use before seasonal storage to prevent contaminant build-up. The exterior of the trap should be periodically wiped down with a clean, damp cloth. When attaching the regulator knob to a new propane tank, it should be fully tightened by hand, then loosened a quarter turn, and re-tightened to maximize the seal and ensure full engagement of the regulator, which prevents gas flow restriction. For end-of-season storage, the trap should be shut down, the propane tank valve closed, and the regulator disconnected. Any open attractant should be removed and discarded, and the bug bag should be discarded. The trap should be stored indoors in a garage or shed, with the trumpet covered to prohibit insect nesting. A trap cover or tarp can be used to protect the unit from dust, spider webs, and other debris. If the unit is not in use, the gas must be turned off at the supply cylinder, and cylinders must be stored outdoors in a well-ventilated area, out of reach of children, and not in a building, garage, or any other enclosed area. Disconnected cylinders must have threaded valve plugs tightly installed. The control compartment, burners, and circulating air passageways of the heater should be kept clean, with inspections at least annually by a qualified service person.
