The Mosquito Magnet® Patriot is an advanced mosquito control system designed for outdoor use. It operates by mimicking human breath and skin scents to attract and capture mosquitoes, offering a silent and odorless solution for pest control in large yards.
Function Description
The Mosquito Magnet® Patriot utilizes patented Counterflow™ Technology, which is based on 18 years of research and independent testing. This technology works by converting propane gas into carbon dioxide (CO2), which is then mixed with heat and moisture to simulate human breath. This CO2 plume, combined with a short-range attractant (Octenol), lures mosquitoes to the trap. Once mosquitoes approach the trap, they are drawn into a self-contained bug bag by a vacuum system, where they dehydrate and die within 24 hours. The trap targets only mosquitoes, avoiding beneficial insects like butterflies, bees, or moths. It operates continuously, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and begins catching mosquitoes immediately upon proper setup.
Usage Features
The Mosquito Magnet® Patriot is designed for ease of use and optimal performance. It features a simple assembly process with a fold-up base for compact storage. The power head, base pole, and base are easily connected, and the U-shaped support legs lock into place. The trap includes a 15-meter (50 ft) low voltage power cord and 10 metal cord clips for burying the cord, ensuring a safe and tidy setup. It is recommended to place the trap upwind, 9-12 meters (30-40 ft) in front of the area to be protected, and within 1.5-1.8 meters (5-6 ft) of mosquito habitats such as standing water, bushes, flowerbeds, or treelines. Placing the trap in the shade is also advised. The unit should be placed on level ground to prevent tipping and ensure even propane distribution.
Starting the trap involves inserting the attractant, connecting the regulator to a fully closed propane tank, plugging the power connector into the trap, and then plugging the AC adapter into a properly grounded electrical outlet. The propane tank valve should be turned on slowly to avoid engaging the safety valve. Once the rocker switch is turned to the "on" position, a red light will flash for up to 20 minutes during the warm-up phase. The trap becomes fully operational when the light stops flashing and remains solid. In case of a power interruption, the trap should be restarted. For shut down, simply close the propane tank valve and switch the unit to the "off" position. The trap is weather-resistant and can be left running in the rain. However, if using lime or fertilizer compounds, the trap should be shut down to prevent dust or fine mist from clogging the bug bag.
The Mosquito Magnet® Patriot also includes advanced diagnostic features for easy monitoring. It has a self-regulated propane shut-off valve and a tank stability guardrail for added safety. A clear hood allows for at-a-glance viewing of the bug net.
Maintenance Features
Routine maintenance is crucial for optimal catch rates and longevity of the device. The maintenance cycle is every 21 days, which involves refilling the propane tank (a standard 9 kg or 20 lb LP-Gas cylinder lasts approximately 21 days with continuous operation), replacing the short-range attractant cartridge, and emptying or replacing the bug bag. The bug bag should be replaced sooner if air flow is restricted.
A key maintenance feature is the Quick Clear adapter, which should be utilized at every tank change. This proprietary feature helps clear the gas nozzle of contaminants that may be present in the propane, preventing clogs. The Quick Clear adapter is also recommended for use before seasonal storage to avoid contaminant build-up. To use the Quick Clear valve, the trap must be shut down, the fan allowed to run until it stops, and the propane tank valve closed. The protective cap is removed from the Easy Quick Clear valve, and the adapter and a Quick Clear cartridge are hand-screwed into place. The cartridge is then slowly unscrewed a quarter turn to release compressed air, which lasts about 45 seconds and clears the system. After the cartridge is empty and removed, the protective cap is replaced, and the trap can be restarted. Protective eyewear is recommended during this process.
Periodically, the outside of the trap should be wiped down with a clean, damp cloth. For end-of-season storage, any open attractant should be removed and discarded, and the bug bag should also be discarded. The trap should be stored indoors in a garage or shed, with the trumpet covered to prevent insect nesting and the unit covered with a tarp to protect against dust, spider webs, and other debris. LP-Gas cylinders not connected for use must be stored outdoors in a well-ventilated area, out of reach of children, and with threaded valve plugs tightly installed.
The device is backed by a 1-year limited warranty, and customer support is available via a hotline and online resources for troubleshooting and service.
