Fourth, verify that the appliance is both plugged in and turned on. Finally, if the coffee has been tamped/compressed too much, refill the portafilter with espresso ground coffee and GENTLY tamp.

Also, check for coffee grounds around the edge of the filter and wipe off any excess. Finally, make sure you are not putting too much coffee in the filter; use less coffee.
