Overview

This document is a user manual for the AHU Remote Control, designed to operate an air handling unit (AHU). It provides comprehensive instructions on how to use the remote control for various functions, from basic operations to advanced settings, ensuring comfort and efficient use of the air conditioning system.

Function Description

The AHU Remote Control allows users to manage their air conditioning unit with ease. It supports multiple operating modes, including AUTO, COOL, DRY, HEAT, and FAN, catering to different climate control needs. Users can adjust the temperature, set fan speeds, and utilize advanced features like timers and sleep mode. The remote control transmits signals to the indoor unit, which then executes the commands.

Usage Features

Basic Operations:

To begin, users must install two R03/LR03 dry batteries into the remote control. The Quick Start Guide outlines a simple four-step process:

  1. Install batteries.
  2. Select the desired mode (AUTO, COOL, DRY, HEAT, FAN) by pressing the MODE button.
  3. Adjust the temperature using the temperature up or down buttons.
  4. Select the fan speed (AUTO, LOW, MED, HIGH) using the FAN button. Finally, press the ON/OFF button to start the unit.

Mode Selection:

  • AUTO Mode: The unit automatically selects COOL, FAN, or HEAT based on the set temperature. Fan speed cannot be manually adjusted in this mode.
  • COOL Mode: For cooling, users select COOL mode, set the desired temperature, and choose a fan speed.
  • DRY Mode (Dehumidifying): In this mode, the unit acts as a dehumidifier. Users select DRY mode and set a temperature. Fan speed cannot be adjusted in DRY mode.
  • FAN Mode: This mode circulates air without heating or cooling. Users select FAN mode and choose a fan speed. The temperature display will be blank as temperature cannot be set.
  • HEAT Mode: For heating, users select HEAT mode, set the desired temperature, and choose a fan speed. It's noted that heating performance may be affected by low outdoor temperatures, suggesting the use of supplementary heating appliances if needed.

Temperature Adjustment:

Temperature can be increased or decreased in 1°F (1°C) increments. The maximum setting is 86°F (30°C), and the minimum is 60°F (16°C). The remote also allows switching between Celsius and Fahrenheit temperature readings using the °C/°F button.

Timer Functions:

The remote control offers TIMER ON and TIMER OFF functions, allowing users to schedule when the unit turns on or off automatically.

  • TIMER ON Setting: Press the TIMER button, then use the temperature up/down buttons to set the desired ON time. Point the remote at the unit and wait 1 second to activate.
  • TIMER OFF Setting: Press the TIMER button, then use the temperature up/down buttons to set the desired OFF time. Point the remote at the unit and wait 1 second to activate. Timer settings increase in 30-minute increments up to 10 hours, then in 1-hour increments up to 24 hours. To cancel a timer, set it to 0.0h. The manual provides an example of setting both TIMER ON and TIMER OFF to illustrate how the unit can be programmed to turn on at a specific time and then turn off later.

Advanced Functions:

  • SHORTCUT Function: Pressing the SHORTCUT button restores the previous operating settings, including mode, temperature, fan speed, and sleep feature. Holding it for more than 2 seconds restores the current operation settings.
  • LOCK Function: To prevent accidental changes, users can activate the LOCK function by pressing the LED and °C/°F (or Follow Me) buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds. This disables all other buttons. Pressing them again for 2 seconds disables the LOCK function.
  • SLEEP Function: This feature saves energy during sleep by adjusting temperature settings for optimal comfort. It can only be activated via the remote control and is not available in FAN or DRY modes.
  • SET Function: This button allows users to scroll through and select various operation functions, such as Follow Me and AP Mode. The selected symbol flashes on the display, and pressing OK confirms the selection.
  • Follow Me Function: This feature enables the remote control to measure the ambient temperature at its current location and send this data to the air conditioning unit every 3 minutes. This optimizes temperature control in AUTO, COOL, or HEAT modes, ensuring comfort where the user is located.

Remote Screen Indicators:

The remote control's LCD display provides visual feedback on the unit's status and settings. Indicators include:

  • Transmission signal
  • SLEEP mode
  • Follow Me feature
  • Wireless control feature
  • Low battery detection (if flashing)
  • Current operating mode (AUTO, COOL, DRY, HEAT, FAN)
  • TIMER ON/OFF status
  • Set temperature
  • Fan speed (LOW, MED, HIGH, AUTO)
  • LOCK status
  • Horizontal louver auto swing display (if applicable)

Maintenance Features

Battery Care:

The manual emphasizes proper battery handling:

  • Do not mix old and new batteries or different types of batteries.
  • Remove batteries if the remote control will not be used for more than 2 months to prevent leakage and damage.
  • Dispose of batteries according to local laws, not as unsorted municipal waste.

Remote Control Usage Tips:

  • The remote control should be used within 26 feet (8 meters) of the unit.
  • The unit will emit a beep when it receives a signal from the remote.
  • Curtains, other materials, and direct sunlight can interfere with the infrared signal receiver, potentially affecting remote control functionality.

Special Notes:

The manual clarifies that button designs may vary slightly, and if a remote control has a button for a function not equipped on the indoor unit, pressing it will have no effect. In cases of conflicting function descriptions between the "Remote Controller Manual" and the "USER'S MANUAL," the latter takes precedence. It also notes that the air handler may support AP mode for wireless network configuration, but this feature must be activated via a wired thermostat, not the remote control.
