Warning: This unit is equipped with an internal combustion engine and should not be used on or near any unimproved forest-covered,

brush-covered or grass-covered land unless the engine’s exhaust system is equipped with a spark arrester meeting applicable local or state

laws (if any). If a spark arrester is used, it should be maintained in effective working order by the operator. In the State of California the above

is required by law (Section 4442 of the California Public Resources Code). Other states may have similar laws. Federal laws apply on federal

lands. A spark arrester for the muffler is available through your nearest engine authorized service dealer or contact the service department,

Why my MTD 607 engine fails to start?

  If your MTD Lawn Mower's engine fails to start, there are several potential causes: * The PTO lever/knob might be engaged. Ensure it is in the OFF position. * The parking brake might not be engaged. Engage the parking brake. * Spark plug wires might be disconnected. Connect the wires to the spark plug. * The throttle control lever might not be in the correct starting position. Place the throttle lever in the CHOKE position. * The fuel tank might be empty or contain stale fuel. Fill the tank with clean, fresh gas. * The fuel line might be blocked. Clean the fuel line or replace the fuel filter, if equipped. * The spark plug might be faulty. Clean, adjust the gap, or replace the plug. * The engine might be flooded. Crank the engine with the throttle in the FAST position.

Why is my MTD 607 Lawn Mower engine running erratic?

  There are several reasons why your MTD Lawn Mower engine might run erratically: * The unit might be running with the CHOKE applied. Place the throttle lever in the FAST position. * The spark plug wire might be loose. Connect and tighten the spark plug wire. * The fuel line might be blocked, or the fuel might be stale. Clean the fuel line and fill the tank with clean, fresh gas. Replace the fuel filter, if equipped. * The vent in the gas cap might be plugged. Clear the vent or replace the cap if damaged. * There might be water or dirt in the fuel system. Drain the fuel tank and refill with clean, fresh gas. * The air cleaner might be dirty. Replace the air cleaner cartridge or clean the pre-cleaner, if equipped.
