Front To Rear
Thefrontofthecuttingdeckissupportedbya stabilizer
barthatcanadjustedtolevelthedeckfromfrontto rear.
Thefrontofthedeckshouldbebetween1/4-inchand
3/8-inchlowerthanthe rearof the deck.Adjustif neces-
saryasfollows:
1. Withthetractorparkedona firm,levelsurface,place
thedeckliftleverinthe top notch(highestposition)
androtatethebladenearestthe dischargechuteso
thatitisparaIMwiththetractor.
2. Measurethedistancefromthe frontofthe bladetip to
thegroundandtherearofthebladetip to the ground.
Thefirstmeasurementtakenshouldbebetween
1/4"and 3/8"lessthanthesecondmeasurement.
Determinetheapproximatedistancenecessaryfor
properadjustmentandproceed,ifnecessary,tothe
nextstep.
3. Fromthefrontofthetractor,loosenthehexlocknut
oneachendof thedeck hangerrod,andturnaway
fromtheinnerhexnuts.SeeFigure14.
4. Tightentheinnerhexnutsfrontagainstthefront
hangerbracketto raisethe frontof the deck;loosen
thehexnutstolowerthe frontof the deck.
NOTE:Modelswitha 42-inchdeckhaveonlyONEjam
nut,washer,and locknut.

Leveling the Deck
NOTE:Checkthe tractor'stirepressurebeforeperform-
inganydeck levelingadjustments.RefertoTires on
page26 for informationregardingtirepressure.
5. Retightenthetwo locknutsagainstthe innerhexnuts
whenproperadjustmentisachieved.
Side to Side
If the cuttingdeckappearsto bemowingunevenly,a side
tosideadjustmentcanbeperformed.Adjustif necessary
asfollows:
1. Withthetractorparkedona firm,levelsurface,place
thedecklift leverinthe top notch(highestposition)
androtatebothbladessothattheyareperpendicular
withthetractor.
2. Measurethedistancefromthe outsideof theleftblade
tiptothegroundandthedistancefromtheoutsided
therightbladetiptotheground.Bothmeasurements
takenshouldbeequal.Ifthey'renot,proceedto the
nextstep.
3. Loosen,butdo NOTremove,the hexcap screwon
theleftdeckhangerbracket.SeeFigure15.
4. Balancethe deckby usingawrenchto turn the
adjustmentgear (foundimmediatelybehindthe hex
capscrewjust loosened)clockwise/uporcounter-
clockwise/down.Thedeckis properlybalancedwhen
bothbladetipmeasurementstakenearlierareequal.
5. Retightenthehexcapscrewontheleft deckhanger
bracketwhenproperadjustmentis achieved.
