  If the cutting attachment on your MTD Trimmer won't advance the line, first stop the engine and clean the cutting attachment if it's bound with grass. If the cutting attachment is out of line, refill it with new line. If the inner reel is bound up, replace it. A dirty cutting head can also cause problems, so clean the inner reel and outer spool. If the line is welded, disassemble, remove the welded section, and rewind it. If the line is twisted when refilled, disassemble and rewind the line. Also, ensure enough line is exposed by pushing the bump knob and pulling out the line until 4 inches (102 mm) of line is outside of the cutting attachment.
