Overview

This document provides comprehensive instructions for the operation and maintenance of an extractor hood, designed for domestic use within a household environment. It covers essential safety information, environmental protection guidelines, various operating modes, and detailed steps for cleaning and troubleshooting.

Function Description

The extractor hood is primarily designed to remove cooking fumes, odours, and vapours from the kitchen. It can operate in two main modes: exhaust air mode and circulating-air mode.

In exhaust air mode, the air drawn in from the kitchen is cleaned by metal grease filters and then expelled to the exterior through a pipe system. This mode is highly effective for completely removing airborne contaminants. Proper ventilation is crucial when operating in exhaust air mode, especially if other room air-dependent heat-producing appliances (like gas or wood heaters) are in use, to prevent the risk of poisoning from flue gases being drawn back into the living space. Adequate fresh air supply must always be ensured.

In circulating-air mode, the drawn-in air is cleaned by both metal grease filters and an activated carbon filter before being recirculated back into the kitchen. This mode is suitable when external venting is not possible or desired. For effective odour binding in this mode, an activated carbon filter is essential and must be installed.

The appliance features a control panel that allows users to manage various functions, including fan speed settings, intensive mode, fan run-on time, interval ventilation, and lighting. The fan speed can be adjusted to match the intensity of cooking fumes, with a higher setting recommended for heavy steam or vapours. An intensive setting is available for situations with a large build-up of odours and fumes, operating for a set duration before reverting to a lower fan setting.

A fan run-on time feature allows the fan to continue operating for a specified period after cooking, ensuring complete removal of residual fumes. Interval ventilation provides intermittent operation, switching on automatically for 10 minutes every hour to maintain air quality.

The lighting function can be operated independently of the ventilation, and its brightness can be adjusted. The appliance also includes a saturation display that indicates when the metal grease filters or activated charcoal filters are saturated and require cleaning or replacement.

Usage Features

To maximize effectiveness, it is recommended to switch on the extractor hood at the start of cooking and switch it off several minutes after cooking is finished. This ensures optimal removal of kitchen fumes.

The control panel is intuitive, with dedicated buttons for:

  • Switching the fan on/off: Initiates or stops the fan operation.
  • Switching on the fan run-on: Activates the fan run-on feature, allowing the fan to continue for 15 minutes after cooking.
  • Switching on the interval ventilation: Engages the intermittent ventilation mode.
  • Turning the fan down/up: Adjusts the fan speed to lower or higher settings.
  • Switching on intensive mode: Activates a powerful, temporary fan setting for heavy fumes.
  • Resetting the saturation indicator: Clears the saturation warning after filters have been serviced.
  • Switching on the lighting: Controls the integrated lighting.

The brightness of the lighting can be adjusted by pressing and holding the light button. The appliance also features a mode switch for circulating-air operation, which must be activated in the electronic control display if the appliance is used in this mode.

Maintenance Features

Regular cleaning and maintenance are crucial for the appliance's efficiency, safety, and longevity.

Metal Grease Filters:

The metal grease filters must be cleaned at least every two months to prevent grease deposits from catching fire. They can be cleaned either by hand or in a dishwasher.

  • By hand: Soak the filters in a hot soapy solution, clean them with a brush, rinse thoroughly, and allow them to drain. Special grease solvent can be used for stubborn dirt.
  • In the dishwasher: Place the filters loosely in the dishwasher, ensuring they are not wedged in. Avoid cleaning heavily soiled filters with other utensils. Slight discolouration may occur in the dishwasher, but this does not affect their function. After cleaning, the filters are reinstalled, and the saturation indicator should be reset by pressing and holding the reset button for two seconds.

Activated Charcoal Filters (Circulating-Air Mode Only):

Activated charcoal filters are not cleanable and must be replaced at least every four months to ensure efficient odour filtration. These filters are not included in the initial delivery and must be purchased separately. To replace them, first remove the metal grease filters, then turn and pull away the old charcoal filters from their holder, push on the new filters, and turn them into place. After replacement, reinstall the metal grease filters and reset the saturation indicator.

Appliance Surfaces:

Different surfaces require specific cleaning agents and methods:

  • Stainless steel: Clean with hot soapy water and a soft cloth, drying in the direction of the grain. Special stainless steel cleaning products can also be used.
  • Painted surfaces: Clean with hot soapy water and a damp dish cloth, drying with a soft cloth/towel. Do not use stainless steel cleaners.
  • Aluminium and plastic: Clean with glass cleaner and a soft cloth.
  • Glass: Clean with glass cleaner and a soft cloth. Do not use a glass scraper.
  • Operating controls: Clean with hot soapy water and a damp dish cloth, drying with a soft cloth. Avoid using a wet cloth on operator controls to prevent moisture ingress into the electronics.

General Maintenance Advice:

  • Always allow the appliance to cool down before cleaning to prevent burns.
  • Disconnect the appliance from the mains or switch off the circuit breaker before cleaning to prevent electric shock.
  • Do not use high-pressure cleaners or steam cleaners.
  • Wear protective gloves when cleaning inside the appliance due to sharp edges.
  • Ensure adequate air supply during cooking to maintain efficient operation and low noise levels.
  • Switch off the lighting when not required to save energy.

The manual also includes a troubleshooting guide to help users identify and resolve common issues, such as the appliance not working, button illumination failure, or lighting malfunction. For more complex issues or defective LED lights, contact the after-sales service.
