ELMYRA 2 v2.1
by neutral labs
Manual
Hello, owner.
ELMYRA 2 is a digital/analog hybrid platform for microtonal sonic
exploration, capable of creating anything from lush ambient
soundscapes to gritty droning textures and shrieking noises, available
as a Eurorack module or semi-modular desktop synth. The included set
of preset cards or individual electronic components like capacitors or
diodes can be used to change the sound character.

How to fix crackling sound on neutral labs ELMYRA 2 Synthesizer?
    • C
      Christopher SampsonAug 13, 2025
To address crackling sounds in your Neutral Labs Synthesizer, first ensure the device isn't overdriving your amplifier, mixer, or active speakers. Since the output level is quite high for a line-level device, you might need to reduce the master volume on the synthesizer and increase the volume on the next device in the chain. Note that some 'dirt' in the sound is expected in the default setting due to mix saturation, adjustable in the Advanced Settings. Extreme crackling when the BITE control is high is also expected.

Why is there no sound coming from my Neutral Labs Synthesizer?
    • A
      Anna RowlandAug 17, 2025
If your Neutral Labs Synthesizer isn't producing any sound, ensure the audio output jack is correctly inserted into the audio output socket, indicated by the top socket with a vertical arrow pointing away. Also, verify that the jumper connector on the back is not set to the UPDATE position. Adjust the controls by turning down the BITE and delay MIX, and increasing the master volume, as well as the CHOKE and CUTOFF controls. If you're using the LPF MODP effect, increase the MOD control(s).

What to do if BITE control causes external input to break up on neutral labs ELMYRA 2?
    • C
      Cindy GarciaAug 21, 2025
If the BITE control is causing the sound from the external input to break up on your Neutral Labs Synthesizer, it may be due to a low volume external audio source. Try boosting the signal with a preamp. Alternatively, reduce the BITE, turn down CHOKE, and then slowly increase BITE again to achieve a different sound character. Experiment with some of the preset cards as well.

Why neutral labs ELMYRA 2 Synthesizer has static noise or hissing?
    • A
      Amy JonesAug 25, 2025
If you're experiencing static noise or hissing with your Neutral Labs Synthesizer desktop version, and you're using a USB power supply, test if the noise persists when powering the unit from a battery source like a laptop, smartphone (using a USB-C-to-USB-A adapter), or a USB battery pack. If the noise disappears, the original power supply is likely the source of the noise and should be replaced.

How to troubleshoot a neutral labs ELMYRA 2 that doesn't turn on?
    • P
      paulwilsonAug 28, 2025
If your Neutral Labs Synthesizer unit doesn’t turn on, for the Eurorack version, ensure the power cable is correctly connected and oriented properly. For the desktop version, use a USB-A-to-USB-C cable, as USB-C-to-USB-C cables are not compatible. A USB-C-to-USB-A adapter is acceptable. If using the original cable, ensure it's fully inserted on the USB-A side, as it may require slightly more force. Also, inspect the internal power connection from the USB-C socket to the XH connector on the board.

Why MODP LED colors are off on Neutral Labs Synthesizer?
    • R
      ronnie26Sep 1, 2025
If the MODP LED colors on your Neutral Labs Synthesizer are off, especially with the desktop version, it could be due to a USB power supply providing less than 5V. While the unit functions at lower voltages, the LED colors might appear different. If this is bothersome, consider using a different power supply.

What to do if touchpads do not react to touch on neutral labs ELMYRA 2?
    • A
      Adam MccoySep 5, 2025
If the touchpads on your Neutral Labs Synthesizer do not react to touch, and you have dry skin, try pressing harder on the pads. If this doesn't work, check the brass nuts (on the back of the Eurorack module or accessible by removing the front panel screws on the desktop version) to ensure they are tightly connected to the circuit board. Also, verify that the touchpads themselves are securely screwed in from the top side.

Why preset cards have no effect on Neutral Labs Synthesizer?
    • L
      Lisa AcevedoSep 9, 2025
Preset cards and components used in the slots on the front panel exhibit an effect in combination with the BITE and CHOKE controls, and the effect they impose on the sound is dependent on the source audio. Play different types of sound and/or set both controls to their respective middle positions and you should hear noticeable changes in sound by swapping preset cards.
