Overview

This document is a repair manual for the New Holland MZ19H series tractor, providing comprehensive information for troubleshooting, service, and repair. It is identified by part number 87045364 and was issued in February 2004. The manual emphasizes safety throughout, using a "WARNING or PERSONAL SAFETY INSTRUCTION" symbol to highlight critical safety information that, if not followed, could result in personal injury or death. It also advises consulting the operator's manual for additional safety and operating tips.

The MZ19H is a zero-radius tractor designed for various outdoor tasks, primarily mowing. Its engine specifications include a Kawasaki FH580V V-Twin engine with a horsepower of 14.2 kW (19) at 3600 RPM and a displacement of 585 CC (35.7 cu. in.). The engine operates with a low idle speed of 1400 RPM and a maximum high idle speed of 3400 RPM. It has an oil capacity of 1.9 qt. (1.8L) and uses unleaded gasoline with a minimum of 87 octane. The engine is air-cooled, features a dual-element air cleaner, fuel pump, overhead valve, electronic ignition, and full-pressure lubrication with an oil filter. The vertical shaft is 1 inch (2.54 cm) in diameter, and the charge coil is 12V - 13 amp.

The construction of the MZ19H features a front frame made of welded 1 x 2 x .120 structural steel tube and a rear frame of welded, 7 and 10 gauge high-strength steel. The front and rear frames are bolted together. The fuel system has a capacity of 5 gallons (18.9 L) with a single fuel tank fender mounting on the left side. It includes a fuel tank shut-off, a replaceable in-line fuel filter, a large-diameter vented fuel cap, and a molded beverage holder in the tank.

The traction system utilizes twin Hydro-Gear Hydrostatic Transaxles with a belt drive and a self-tensioning system. It offers infinite ground speed, ranging from 0 to 7 MPH (10.5 km/hr) forward and 0 to 3.4 MPH (5.5 km/hr) reverse. Transport rods allow the unit to be moved without the engine running. The attachment drive uses an electric clutch and a vertical drive with a single deep B-groove pulley.

Tire specifications include 18 x 10.5-10 4-ply "Multitrac CS" tread for the rear drive tires and 410/350 x 4 "sawtooth" tread for the front castor tires. Recommended tire pressures are 13 psi (90 kPa) for the rear and 35 psi (241 kPa) for the front. The operator's seat is a high-back foam-padded design with armrests, hinged mounting for easy access to the battery and controls, spring suspension, and fore and aft adjustment of 3 inches (76 mm) by loosening two knobs and sliding the seat.

Steering is managed by dual wrap-around levers controlling hydraulic pumps, with dual hydraulic dampers, enabling a zero-radius turn (ZRT). Controls include dual wrap-around steering levers with cushioned grips, a left-hand operated parking brake lever with a cushioned grip, a right-hand operated attachment lift lever with a cushioned grip, and a right-side console-mounted engine throttle, ignition switch (electric with key), and power take-off (electric).

Safety interlocks are crucial features of the MZ19H. These include an operator presence switch, a dual neutral sensing switch, a position switch for the power take-off, and a position switch for the brake. The electrical system is a 12-volt negative ground system, powered by a BCI Group U1 battery. Fuses include a 30 amp blade type for the main circuit, a 25 amp blade type for the charge system, and a 10 amp blade type included with the optional light kit.

Dimensions of the MZ19H are: a wheelbase of 52.1 inches (132.3 cm) from the center of the castor to the center of the drive tires, an overall width of 47.6 inches (120.9 cm) outside the rear tires, an overall width of 65 inches (165.1 cm) with the deck deflector down (or 58 inches (147.3 cm) gate width with the deck deflector up), an overall length of 77.5 inches (196.9 cm), and an overall height of 41 inches (104.1 cm). The track width is 37.5 inches (95.3 cm) center to center of the rear tires and 30.4 inches (77.2 cm) center to center of the castor tires. The deck width is 65 inches (165.1 cm) with the deflector down. The estimated net weight of the unit is 680 lbs. (309 kg).

The deck is a right-side discharge, 52-inch (132 cm) cut, three-blade mid-mounted rotary type. It is constructed from drawn 12 gauge steel with welded mounting brackets and gauge wheel brackets, and it is frame-supported. Deck belt covers are removable, made of 16 gauge formed sheet metal, fastened with thread-forming screws, and include access holes for greasing spindles. The deflector is 12 gauge formed, held down by torsion springs at the pivot bracket. One anti-scalp roller is front-mounted, and there is no deck offset, meaning the deck centerline is on the machine centerline.

Gauge wheels are located on each front corner and each rear corner to reduce scalping, with four height position adjustments. The cutting height is adjustable from 1.5 inches to 4.5 inches (38 to 114 mm) in 7 positions. The uncut circle is 0 inches. The engine-to-deck drive uses an HB-section Kevlar cord "V" belt from the engine clutch sheave to the deck spindle sheaves, with a spring-loaded idler for belt tension and take-up. Spindle assemblies consist of three 17-mm diameter spindles turning in permanently lubed ball bearings and die-cast aluminum spindle housings. The blades are three 18" x 2.5" x .187" heat-treated steel blades, with a tip speed of 17,500 ft/min (5334 m/min) at 3400 RPM nominal and 18,070 ft/min (5507 m/min) at 3500 RPM max. The deck is suspended from the front frame by four trunnion rods and attached to the lift mechanism by two multi-position links ("pork chops").

Optional equipment includes a Recycler Kit, Light Kit, Snow Plow Attachment, Tire Chains, Smooth Castor Wheel Kit, Striping Kit, and a Decal Kit for Canada. The MZ19H conforms to California CARB and EPA Certification, as well as ANSI B71.1-2001 standards.

Maintenance features are detailed in the manual, including a comprehensive maintenance schedule. After first use, the engine oil, engine oil level, and safety system should be checked. Every use requires checking the engine oil level and safety system. Every 5 hours, the air intake screen, mower housing, and cutting blades should be cleaned, and all lubrication points should be greased. Every 25 hours, linkage bushings should be oiled, the foam air cleaner serviced, belts checked for wear/cracks, battery electrolyte checked, and tire pressure checked. Every 50 hours, the paper air cleaner should be serviced, and the engine oil changed. Every 100 hours, the spark plug(s) should be checked. Every 200 hours, the oil filter should be changed, and the fuel filter replaced. Every 300 hours, the paper air cleaner should be replaced, and the engine shrouds and cooling fins cleaned.

For storage, all listed maintenance procedures should be performed, the fuel tank drained, the battery charged, and cables disconnected, and any chipped surfaces painted. The manual provides specific bolt torques for various components: Blade to Spindle (80-100 ft lb / 109-136 N·m), Caster Bolts (77-95 ft lb / 105-130 N·m), Clutch Bolt (50-60 ft lb / 68-82 N·m), Engine Mounting Bolts (120-180 ft lb / 164-246 N·m), Spindle Pulley Nuts (80-100 ft lb / 109-136 N·m), and Wheel Lug Nuts (70-90 ft lb / 95.5-123 N·m).

Lubrication points are clearly identified, with grease fittings on the mower for right and left outer spindles, the center mower spindle, the deck idler arm bushing, two grease fittings for the deck raising pivot bushings (one on each side), the deck height adjustment lever, each front castor bushing, castor wheel bearings, the traction belt idler bushing (under the seat), and the motion control lever pivot bushings (one for each lever, also under the seat). The recommended grease type is New Holland Ambra GR-9 multi-purpose grease (General-purpose lithium base grease).

The manual also includes instructions for locating model and serial numbers for the unit, engine, and transaxles, which is essential for proper service and parts ordering. A critical safety warning advises removing the key from the ignition and disconnecting the spark plug wire(s) before any maintenance to prevent accidental starting and injury.
