It will be noted that there are two lines of numbers.
The top line is the gearbox serial number, and should always be quoted when
ordering spare parts; this enables the factory to trace the history of the
gearbox right back to its date of manufacture and the components and materials
used in its production, thus ensuring that the correct components can be
supplied as spare parts.
The lower line is the gearbox specification; in the example given this
translates as follows:-
First 3 digits - Gearbox model
Fourth digit - Output shaft offset
Fifth digit - Input shaft location
Sixth digit - Ratio
