Troubleshooting
If the  ash unit fails to function as expected, check the list of
common problems below before consulting your retailer or
Nikon representative.
The fl ash does not charge (the fl ash-ready lamp does not light red):
• Con rm that the batteries are not exhausted and are inserted
in the correct orientation and that the battery holder is fully
inserted.
• The unit will shut down temporarily to protect the internal
circuits after it has  red several times in quick succession or
when the ambient temperature is high. Turn the unit o and
let it cool for a few minutes; if the ambient temperature is high,
move it to a cool location. Note that if the  ash has been  red
at full power more than 20 times in succession, it will automati-
cally shut down for at least 20 seconds to protect ash and the
ash-ready lamp will turn o ; in this case, leave the  ash o for
at least 10 minutes before resuming use.
The fl ash does not fi re:
• Con rm that the  ber-optic cable is securely connected.
• Con rm that the cameras built-in  ash is set to  re with every
shot.
Check the camera shooting and  ash mode settings.
The fl ash-ready lamp does not light green after the fl ash fi res in TTL mode:
If the  ash-ready lamp is lit blue, keep the targeting lamp but-
ton pressed until the lamp lights red (about three seconds) to
show that  ash-compensation support is enabled.
Adjust the distance to the subject and try again.
