Troubleshooting
If the ash unit fails to function as expected, check the list of
common problems below before consulting your retailer or
Nikon representative.
The fl ash does not charge (the fl ash-ready lamp does not light red):
• Con rm that the batteries are not exhausted and are inserted
in the correct orientation and that the battery holder is fully
inserted.
• The unit will shut down temporarily to protect the internal
circuits after it has red several times in quick succession or
when the ambient temperature is high. Turn the unit o and
let it cool for a few minutes; if the ambient temperature is high,
move it to a cool location. Note that if the ash has been red
at full power more than 20 times in succession, it will automati-
cally shut down for at least 20 seconds to protect ash and the
ash-ready lamp will turn o ; in this case, leave the ash o for
at least 10 minutes before resuming use.
The fl ash does not fi re:
• Con rm that the ber-optic cable is securely connected.
• Con rm that the camera’s built-in ash is set to re with every
shot.
• Check the camera shooting and ash mode settings.
The fl ash-ready lamp does not light green after the fl ash fi res in TTL mode:
• If the ash-ready lamp is lit blue, keep the targeting lamp but-
ton pressed until the lamp lights red (about three seconds) to
show that ash-compensation support is enabled.
• Adjust the distance to the subject and try again.
