Overview

The Ninja Speedi ON400UK is a 10-in-1 Rapid Cooker designed for versatile and efficient cooking, offering a range of functions to prepare meals quickly and easily. This appliance combines various cooking methods, allowing users to create diverse dishes with minimal effort.

Function Description

The core functionality of the Ninja Speedi revolves around its dual cooking modes: Rapid Cooker and Air Fry/Hob. These modes are selected using the SmartSwitch, a physical switch on the unit that determines which cooking functions are available for selection on the control panel.

Rapid Cooker Mode: This mode is engineered for speed and efficiency, enabling the preparation of quick and delicious meals, often in under 30 minutes. Within the Rapid Cooker mode, the following functions are available:

  • Speedi Meals: This signature function is designed to create complete meals rapidly. It typically involves adding liquid and ingredients to the bottom of the pot, placing the Cook & Crisp tray in the top position with additional ingredients, and then initiating the cooking process. The unit builds steam, and once the appropriate steam level is reached, the timer begins counting down. Temperatures can be adjusted from 150°C to 240°C, with a maximum cook time of 30 minutes for temperatures over 210°C.
  • Steam Air Fry: This function combines steaming with air frying to produce juicy interiors and crisp exteriors. Ingredients are loaded, and the unit builds steam before initiating the air frying process. Users can select temperatures between 150°C and 220°C and adjust cook times from 1 minute to 4 hours.
  • Steam Bake: Ideal for baking fluffy cakes and quick breads, this function also utilizes steam for moist results. The Cook & Crisp tray is placed in the bottom position with baking accessories on top. Temperatures can be set from 120°C to 210°C, and cook times range from 1 minute to 1 hour and 15 minutes.
  • Steam: This function gently cooks delicate foods at a high temperature using steam. Water is added to the pot, and ingredients are placed on the Cook & Crisp tray in the bottom position. There is no temperature adjustment for this function; users only set the cook time, up to 1 hour. The unit preheats to bring the liquid to a boil and build steam before the timer starts.

Air Fry/Hob Mode: This mode offers traditional dry-heat cooking and hob-style functions, providing flexibility for a wide array of recipes. The functions available in this mode include:

  • Grill: This function uses high heat from above to caramelize and brown the tops of food. The Cook & Crisp tray is placed in the top position with ingredients. Temperatures can be adjusted from 210°C to 240°C, and cook times can be set up to 30 minutes.
  • Air Fry: This function provides crispness and crunch to food with little to no oil. The Cook & Crisp tray is placed in the bottom position, and ingredients are added to the pot. Temperatures can be selected between 150°C and 210°C, with cook times up to 1 hour. It is recommended to preheat the unit for 5 minutes before air frying and to periodically shake ingredients for even browning.
  • Bake/Roast: This function allows the unit to be used like an oven with dry heat for tender meats, baked treats, and more. The Cook & Crisp tray is positioned at the bottom of the pot. Temperatures can be set from 120°C to 210°C, and cook times range from 1 minute to 4 hours. Similar to air frying, preheating for 5 minutes is recommended.
  • Dehydrate: This function is used to dehydrate meats, fruits, and vegetables for healthy snacks. The Cook & Crisp tray is placed in the bottom position. Temperatures can be adjusted between 40°C and 90°C, and cook times can be set from 1 to 12 hours.
  • Sear/Sauté: This function acts as a hob for browning meats, sautéing vegetables, simmering sauces, and more. The Cook & Crisp tray must be removed from the pot before using this function. Users can select temperature levels from "Lo1" to "Hi5." There is no time adjustment, as the function automatically turns off after 1 hour for "4" and "Hi5" settings, and 4 hours for "Lo1," "2," and "3." This function can be used with the lid open or closed.
  • Slow Cook: This function cooks food at a lower temperature for a longer period. The Cook & Crisp tray must be removed, and ingredients and liquids are added to the pot, ensuring not to exceed the max fill line. Users can select temperature settings of "Hi," "Lo," or "bUFFEt." Cook times vary depending on the setting: "bUFFEt" (2-12 hours), "Lo" (6-12 hours), and "Hi" (4-12 hours). Once the cook time reaches zero, the unit automatically switches to Keep Warm mode.

Usage Features

The Ninja Speedi is designed for user-friendly operation with several key features:

  • Control Panel: The control panel includes a power button, temperature adjustment arrows (left of display), time adjustment arrows (right of display), a START/STOP button, and central arrows for scrolling through functions. The digital display shows temperature and time settings.
  • SmartSwitch: This physical switch allows seamless transition between the Rapid Cooker and Air Fry/Hob modes, making it easy to access the desired cooking functions.
  • Cook & Crisp Tray: This versatile accessory can be used in two positions. The "Top Position" is for proteins and vegetables, especially when following Speedi Meals recipes or using the Grill function. The "Bottom Position" is for traditional steam and air frying capabilities, as well as for baking and dehydrating. The tray's legs rotate inward or outward to achieve the desired position.
  • Lid Operation: The lid can be opened and closed at any time using the handle located at the front center of the unit, above the control panel.
  • Condensation Collector: A removable collector slides into a slot on the cooker base to collect excess water during cooking, which should be emptied after each use.
  • Preheating: For Air Fry and Bake/Roast functions, a 5-minute preheat is recommended, similar to a conventional oven. Rapid Cooker functions, particularly Speedi Meals, involve a steam-building phase indicated by progress bars on the display before the cooking timer begins.
  • Safety Reminders: The manual emphasizes important safety precautions, such as keeping hands and face away from the release valve, not deep-frying, using protective hot pads or oven gloves when handling hot surfaces or accessories, and ensuring adequate air circulation around the unit. It also warns against moving the appliance when in use and overfilling the cooking pot.
  • Troubleshooting: The device includes a troubleshooting guide to address common issues such as steam release, "ADD POT" or "SHUT LID" error messages, and the unit counting up instead of down (indicating Keep Warm mode).
  • Helpful Tips: The manual provides tips for consistent browning by arranging ingredients in an even layer and shaking them halfway through cooking, and for adjusting cook times for larger cuts of meat when using meal charts.

Maintenance Features

Proper cleaning and maintenance are crucial for the longevity and safe operation of the Ninja Speedi:

  • General Cleaning: The unit should be cleaned thoroughly after every use. Before cleaning, unplug the unit and allow it to cool completely. The cooker base and control panel can be wiped clean with a damp cloth.
  • Dishwasher Safe Parts: The removable cooking pot, Cook & Crisp tray, and condensation collector are dishwasher safe.
  • Hand-Washing: For stubborn food residue, the pot and tray can be filled with water and allowed to soak. Non-abrasive cleansers or washing-up liquid with a nylon pad or brush should be used for scrubbing. Metal scouring pads are explicitly prohibited to avoid electric shock.
  • Lid Cleaning (Steam Cleaning): The interior of the lid, particularly the heating element and fan, should be inspected regularly for food residue or oil buildup, especially after using "wet cooking functions" like Slow Cook, Sear/Sauté, and Rapid Cooker functions. To clean the lid, users are instructed to:
    1. Fill the pot with 700ml of water.
    2. Move the SmartSwitch to RAPID COOKER.
    3. Select STEAM and set the time to 30 minutes, then press START/STOP.
    4. Once the time reaches zero and the unit has cooled, wipe down the interior of the lid with a wet cloth or sponge. A caution is given not to touch the fan.
    5. Repeat steps as needed for spot cleaning.
    6. Remove water from the pot and rinse both the cooking pot and Cook & Crisp tray to ensure all residue is removed.
  • Condensation Collector: The condensation collector should be emptied of excess water after cooking and removed for hand-washing after each use.
  • Utensils: It is recommended to use nonstick utensils in the cooking pot and to avoid metal utensils, which can scratch the nonstick coating.

The Ninja Speedi ON400UK is designed to be a versatile and convenient kitchen appliance, simplifying meal preparation with its multi-functional capabilities and straightforward maintenance.
