Overview

The NOCO GENIUS1 is an advanced, compact, and efficient battery charger designed for a wide range of 6V and 12V lead-acid batteries, as well as 12V lithium-ion batteries. Its primary function is to charge and maintain batteries, ensuring optimal performance and extended life. The device is a direct wall plug-in charger, emphasizing ease of use and portability.

Function Description:

The GENIUS1 offers six distinct charging modes: Standby, 12V, 12V AGM, 12V LITHIUM, 6V, and Force Mode. These modes cater to various battery chemistries and conditions.

  • Standby Mode: The default mode when the charger is connected but not actively charging. It features an "Energy Save" function, drawing minimal power, and enables Canbus. An orange LED indicates this mode.
  • 12V Mode: Designed for charging 12-volt Wet Cell, Gel Cell, Enhanced Flooded, Maintenance-Free, and Calcium batteries. It illuminates a white LED when selected and charges at 14.5V with 1A, suitable for up to 30Ah batteries.
  • 12V AGM Mode: Specifically for 12-volt AGM batteries, indicated by a white LED. It charges at 14.8V with 1A, also for up to 30Ah batteries.
  • 12V LITHIUM Mode: For 12-volt lithium-ion batteries, including lithium iron phosphate, and requires a Battery Management System (BMS). A blue LED illuminates in this mode. It charges at 14.6V with 1A, for up to 30Ah batteries. This mode should be used with extreme care, and users are advised to consult the battery manufacturer for recommended charging rates and voltages, as some lithium-ion batteries may be unstable or unsuitable.
  • 6V Mode: For 6-volt Wet Cell, Gel Cell, Enhanced Flooded, Maintenance-Free, and Calcium batteries. This mode requires a three-second press and hold to activate and is indicated by a white LED. It charges at 7.25V with 1A, for up to 30Ah batteries.
  • Force Mode: An advanced mode for charging batteries with a voltage lower than 1V, which the charger might not otherwise detect. It requires a five-second press and hold of the mode button. Once activated, the selected charge mode LED and Charge LED will alternate, indicating Force Mode is active. The charger operates in Force Mode for five minutes before returning to standard charging. This mode disables safety features, and live power is present at the connectors, posing risks of sparks, fire, explosion, property damage, injury, and death if not used with extreme caution.

The GENIUS1 incorporates thermal compensation, automatically adjusting charging profiles based on ambient temperature to maximize charging performance. It also features an auto-memory function, returning to the last selected charge mode upon reconnection.

    • Error LEDs (Solid Red):
      • Overvoltage Error: Battery voltage is above the protect voltage.
      • Bad Battery Error: Connected battery will not hold a charge.
      • Reverse Polarity Error: Reverse polarity detected.
    • Flashing Error LED (V with thermometer): Charger internal temperature too high or ambient temperature too cold. Charger will resume function once temperature normalizes.
  • Mode Button: Used to cycle through charge modes. A three-second press and hold activates 6V mode, and a five-second press and hold activates Force Mode.
  • Battery Connection: Connects to battery terminals using positive (red) and negative (black) clamps or eyelet connectors. For negative ground systems (most common), connect positive first, then negative to the battery terminal or vehicle chassis. For positive ground systems, reverse the order. Avoid connections to carburetor, fuel lines, or thin metal parts.
  • Safety Precautions: Users are warned about potential electrical shock, explosion, and fire hazards. It is crucial to wear eye protection, avoid handling metal objects near batteries, and ensure proper ventilation. The product should not be submerged in water or operated if damaged.
  • Proposition 65 Warning: Battery posts, terminals, and related accessories contain lead, which is known to cause cancer and birth defects.
  • Minors: Adults purchasing for minors must provide detailed instructions and warnings.
  • Choking Hazard: Accessories may pose a choking hazard to children.
  • Operating Environment: Designed for dry locations and specific temperature ranges. Do not operate in closed-in areas, areas with restricted ventilation, or near combustible materials. Do not charge frozen batteries.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: Power off the product before cleaning. Use a soft, lint-free cloth. Clean and dry immediately if it comes into contact with liquid or contaminants. Avoid moisture in openings.
  • Storage: Store the product on flat, secure surfaces in a dry location, away from high concentrations of dust or airborne materials. The recommended storage temperature is -20°C to 25°C, never exceeding 80°C.
  • Warranty: The GENIUS1 comes with a 3-year hassle-free warranty covering defects in material and workmanship. To claim warranty, purchasers must obtain a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number from NOCO Support and send the product with proof of purchase to the specified Return Location. The warranty is void if the product is misused, mishandled, modified, disassembled, or repaired by unauthorized parties, or if defects are reported after the warranty period. Normal wear and tear, cosmetic damage not affecting functionality, or products with missing/altered serial numbers are not covered. Registration of the product online at no.co/register is recommended to upload proof of purchase and extend warranty dates.
