Overview

The NOMA Oscillating Halogen Radiant Heater, model no. 043-6078-8, is designed for indoor residential, office, and personal shop use, providing efficient heating through halogen radiant technology. This heater is not intended for industrial or other commercial applications. It operates on a 120 V AC / 6.66 A electrical supply at 60 Hz. It offers two heat settings: High (800 W, 2730 BTUs) and Low (400 W).

Function Description:

The NOMA Halogen Radiant Heater utilizes halogen elements to generate radiant heat, which directly warms objects and people in its path, similar to how the sun warms. This method of heating can feel warmer and more immediate than convection heating, which warms the air. The heater is equipped with an oscillation feature, allowing it to rotate through a 70° arc, distributing heat more broadly across a room. This oscillation can be activated on either the High or Low heat setting. The heater is controlled via a top-mounted rotary control dial, which allows users to select between the OFF position, Low heat (400 W), High heat (800 W), and the SWING function for oscillation on either heat setting.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model No.: 043-6078-8
  • Voltage/Amps: 120 V AC / 6.66 A
  • Frequency: 60 Hz
  • Power Settings:
    • High (II): 800 W, 2730 BTUs
    • Low (I): 400 W
  • Oscillation: 70°
  • Design: Slim Twin-tube Design
  • Body: Stay Cool Body (though surfaces are hot when in use)

Usage Features:

  • Placement: The heater should always be operated in an upright position. For optimal heating, place the heater in the coldest area of the room. It must be positioned at least 3 feet (0.9 m) away from walls, furniture, and other obstacles to ensure proper airflow and prevent fire hazards.
  • Electrical Connection: Plug the heater directly into a 120 V AC, 60 Hz wall outlet. Ensure the plug fits tightly to prevent overheating. It is crucial not to plug the heater into a circuit that is already servicing other electrical needs to prevent overloading. The supply cord features a polarized plug, designed to fit into a polarized outlet in only one way as a safety feature. Users should match the wide blade of the plug to the wide slot and fully insert it. If the plug does not fit, a qualified electrician should be consulted. Do not attempt to defeat this safety feature.
  • Heat Settings:
    • High (800 W): Use this setting to quickly raise the room temperature.
    • Low (400 W): Use this setting to maintain the desired room temperature.
  • Oscillation (SWING): To activate the oscillation feature, select the SWING function on the control dial while either the High or Low heat setting is active. This will cause the heater to oscillate through a 70° arc, distributing heat more widely.
  • Turning Off: Rotate the control dial to the OFF position. Always unplug the unit when not in use.
  • Initial Use: During the heater's initial use, a slight odor or smoking may be noticed. This is normal and results from residual lubrication on the steel burning off. It should dissipate after a few minutes.
  • Quiet Operation: The heater is designed for quiet operation.
  • Base Assembly: The heater requires a simple base assembly. Turn the heater upside down, remove two wing-nuts from the base, and save them. Align the tip-over switch of the heater to the round opening in the base and the power cord to the slot on the base. Assemble the base to the heater and re-thread the wing-nuts to secure it.

Safety Features:

  • Overheat Safety Feature: The heater is equipped with an automatic overheat protection device. If the heater grill is obstructed or if the heater becomes too hot for any reason, this device will automatically turn the heater off. To reset, turn the power off, unplug the heater for 10 minutes to allow it to cool down, then plug it back in and restart. Ensure the heater is on a smooth, level surface with no obstructions.
  • Tip-Over Safety Feature: A safety tip-over switch is integrated into the heater, which automatically turns off the power if the heater tips over. To resume operation, simply stand the heater upright.
  • Stay Cool Body: While the body is designed to stay cool, the heating surfaces are hot when in use. Avoid touching hot surfaces with bare skin and use handles if provided when moving the heater.
  • General Safeguards:
    • Always read all instructions before use.
    • Keep combustible materials (furniture, pillows, bedding, papers, clothes, curtains) at least 3 feet (0.9 m) from the front, sides, and rear of the heater.
    • Exercise extreme caution when the heater is used by or near children or individuals with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, and whenever the heater is left operating unattended.
    • Never operate the heater with a damaged cord or plug, or if it has malfunctioned, been dropped, or damaged. Discard the heater or return it to an authorized service facility for examination and/or repair.
    • Do not use outdoors.
    • Not intended for use in bathrooms, laundry areas, or similar indoor locations where it could fall into water.
    • Do not run the cord under carpeting, throw rugs, runners, or similar coverings. Do not route the cord under furniture or appliances. Arrange the cord away from traffic areas to prevent tripping hazards.
    • To disconnect, turn controls to off, then remove the plug from the outlet.
    • Do not insert foreign objects into ventilation or exhaust openings, as this may cause electric shock, fire, or damage.
    • Do not block air intakes or exhaust to prevent fire; avoid using on soft surfaces like a bed where openings may become blocked.
    • Do not use in areas where gasoline, paint, or flammable liquids are used or stored.
    • Only use as described in this manual; other uses may cause fire, electric shock, or injury.
    • Never use with an extension cord or relocatable power tap (power strip) due to overheating and fire risk.
    • PET OWNERS NOTE: Birds and some small pets are highly sensitive to fumes released during the initial use of many appliances. It is recommended to avoid using this heater around birds and small pets during its initial use until the manufacturing corrosion coatings burn off.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: Before cleaning, always disconnect the power cord and allow the heater to cool completely. The heater should be cleaned at least once a year to maintain performance. Clean the outside surface with a clean, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemical or abrasive cleaners. Never immerse the heater in water. Allow the heater to dry completely before use.
  • Repair: Do not operate the heater without all safety features in place. Do not use the heater if it has malfunctioned or become damaged in any way.
  • Storage: Keep the original carton for storage of the heater. Store the power cord to avoid damage during storage.
  • Warranty: The product carries a one (1) year warranty against defects in workmanship and materials. Noma Canada agrees to replace a defective product within the stated warranty period when returned to the place of purchase with proof of purchase. This warranty does not cover wear, breakage due to misuse, or abuse.
