Overview

The Nu-Air Lumina Wall Control (p/n NAV-561) is a sophisticated control unit designed for use with Nu-Air H/ERV (Heat/Energy Recovery Ventilator) systems that feature an ES series circuit board. This control allows users to manage ventilation, humidity, and recirculation functions within a residential or commercial setting, enhancing indoor air quality and comfort.

Function Description

The Lumina Wall Control serves as the primary interface for operating Nu-Air H/ERV units. It enables users to:

  • Turn the ventilator ON/OFF: Basic power control for the H/ERV.
  • Select various modes of operation: The control offers multiple ventilation modes, including Off, Standby, Low Speed, High Speed, and 20 Lo/40 Standby, catering to different air exchange needs.
  • Manage humidity: Users can set a desired humidity level (setpoint) between 20% and 80%. The ventilator will automatically activate in high speed when ambient humidity exceeds this setpoint, helping to reduce indoor moisture.
  • Utilize a high-speed timer: For temporary boosts in ventilation, the control allows activation of high speed for 20, 40, or 60 minutes.
  • Control recirculation (for compatible units): Two recirculation modes are available: continuous recirculation and 20 Lo/40 Recirculation, which cycles between low speed and recirculation. These modes circulate air within the home without bringing in outside air.
  • Integrate with external timers: Compatible with Nu-Air accessory controls like the WIN-20 (20-minute timer) and ES-T1 (20/40/60-minute timer).
  • Provide maintenance reminders: An internal run clock tracks ventilator operation time and triggers a visual alert (wrench icon and LED) when maintenance is due, typically after 3 months.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Compatibility: Works with any Nu-Air H/ERV featuring an ES series circuit board. The ES series circuit board is identifiable by the presence of one 4-wire and one 10-wire removable terminal block for controls wiring.
  • Installation: Designed to fit a standard 2x3" (nominal) electrical wall box. Can also be mounted using drywall anchors where a wall box is not available.
  • Wiring: Requires a 4-conductor wire connection to the H/ERV's 12 VDC terminal block. Specific terminals are G (GND), A (A BUS), B (B BUS), and 12 (+12V).
  • Power Interruption: Retains the last active mode of operation and all custom settings after a power interruption.
  • Humidity Setting Range: 20-80% in 5% increments.
  • Timer Settings: 20, 40, or 60 minutes for high-speed operation.
  • Maintenance Clock Default: 3 months.
  • Included in Kit: 1 wall control, installation/user guide, and 2 wall-box mounting screws.

Usage Features

The Lumina Wall Control is designed for intuitive operation with several user-friendly features:

  • Backlight: The first button press illuminates the backlight for 10 seconds, improving visibility in low light.
  • Mode Selection: Pressing the "MODE" button allows users to enter the mode selection menu. Arrow buttons navigate through numbered menu choices (00-06), and pressing "MODE" again or waiting 4 seconds activates the desired mode.
  • Humidity Adjustment: The up/down arrow keys are used to adjust the humidity setpoint. The current setting and "%" symbol flash during adjustment. After 4 seconds of inactivity, the selected setpoint is programmed.
  • Timer Activation: The "TIMER" (hourglass) button activates high-speed ventilation for preset durations. Multiple presses cycle through 20, 40, and 60 minutes. Pressing until all hourglass icons disappear turns off the timer.
  • Arrow Button Functions:
    • DOWN ARROW: Decreases desired humidity setting, scrolls down mode/menu options.
    • UP ARROW: Increases desired humidity setting, scrolls up mode/menu options.
  • Operating Hint: A humidity setting of 40-60% is generally recommended for optimal indoor air quality.
  • External Timer Integration: While external timers are compatible, the Lumina control will continue to display its current mode of operation and will not indicate that an external timer is active. The chosen mode will commence after the external timer cycle expires.
  • Retrofit Applications: For existing ES controls (ES-M1, ES-M2, ES-M3, ES-M4, ES-DVC), these should be removed as they become redundant with the NAV-561. Only one NAV-561 should be used per installation.

Maintenance Features

The control incorporates features to assist with H/ERV maintenance:

  • Maintenance Run Clock: This internal clock tracks the ventilator's operational time.
  • Maintenance Indicator: After the factory default of 3 months (or a user-defined period), a wrench icon appears on the LCD screen, and a yellow (or red for NAV-561B 2017- units) LED illuminates below the screen. This indicates that the ventilator should be checked for cleaning and filter replacement.
  • Resetting Maintenance Clock: Pressing and holding the "POWER" button for 5 seconds resets the maintenance clock.
  • Custom Settings Menu: A dedicated menu allows for advanced adjustments, typically recommended for qualified technicians:
    • Adjusting Run Time Maintenance Clock: Users can change the maintenance reminder period from 1 to 12 months.
    • Calibrating Humidity Sensor: Allows for fine-tuning the humidity sensor's accuracy in 5% increments.
    • Turning OFF/ON Recirculation Functions: Essential for units without recirculation components to prevent the ventilator from operating in low speed when a recirculation mode is selected. The default setting for recirculation is ON.
  • Accessing Custom Settings: Simultaneously press and hold the up and down arrow buttons for 15 seconds. The backlight turns on after 10 seconds, indicating entry into the menu. Arrow buttons navigate choices, and the "MODE" button preserves settings and moves to the next item. Settings are written after 5 seconds of no button activity, and the control resumes regular operation.
