Let’s Learn D: Introducing the
2
nd Octave
The next note we will learn is D, this is the first note in the next register. To play the D we need to
uncover the small thumb hole on the back of the jS
AX
. Do this by rolling your thumb forward to
uncover the hole with the back of your thumb, rather than moving your thumb to the side, or lifting it
o all together. This is a similar movement to the “octave key” which can be found on a full size sax.
