Overview

The O.E.M. Products Inc. Cyclone SS is an electric-powered, skid-steer, zero-turn radius machine designed for surface preparation, specifically for removing surface coverings and coatings. It operates by lowering a weighted, sharpened blade onto the surface and moving forward, utilizing a high-torque drive system. The machine's weight ensures the flexible blade conforms firmly to the floor, preventing it from lifting over well-adhered material and effectively removing floor coverings.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Weight: 2,850 lbs.
  • Removable Weight: 720 lbs. (by removing 6 batteries for transport only)
  • Height: 63 inches
  • Width: 26 inches
  • Length: 52 inches
  • Max Ground Speed (SS Model): 350 ft./min.
  • Hydraulic Tank Fluid Capacity: 3 gallons
  • Oil for Hydraulics: 15w-50 full synthetic motor oil
  • Power Source: 36 Volt Electric Motor (SS Model: 36 Volt Electric SS Motor), powered by 6 Volt 400 AH AGM batteries.

Usage Features:

The Cyclone SS features a user-friendly control area with a steering joystick, a blade positioning joystick, an On/Off switch, a display monitor, and a throttle/RPM dial.

Pre-Start-Up:

Before operation, it's crucial to check the hydraulic fluid level (should be about 2" from the top of the tank) and inspect for any major hydraulic oil leaks. Loose hydraulic fittings should be snugged with two wrenches, taking care not to overtighten. Lug bolts should be torqued between 85-100 ft. lbs., and the axle nut to at least 200 ft. lbs.

Start-Up:

The operator must be seated for the electric motor to start. Pulling up the red knob located on the left side, behind the blade control joystick, will initiate the electric motor. The battery gauge, also behind the red knob, will first display recorded hours. The black throttle dial on the left side should be in the "OFF" position initially. Once the red knob is pulled up, turn the black dial clockwise to achieve the desired motor speed. Lower settings result in slower machine speed, which is desirable for loading/unloading or navigating tight spaces.

Operation:

Familiarization with the equipment is recommended before use. The left-hand joystick controls blade positioning: pushing it forward lowers the blade bar assembly, and pulling it back raises it. Pushing the joystick left or right adjusts the blade pitch. The right-hand joystick controls movement. When scraping, the blade or Tile Tooth should be as parallel to the floor as possible while staying under the material. The blade pitch can then be increased for productivity. Front caster wheels should be retracted and kept off the floor during scraping to ensure maximum weight on the blade and extend caster wheel life.

Safety Practices During Operation:

When parking, ensure the machine is on a level surface and chock the wheels to prevent rolling. Operators should always lower the blade to the ground when leaving the machine to prevent injury. The machine should not be transported with the front off the floor by more than 1/2".

Battery Monitoring:

The voltage meter on the left side instrument panel displays battery percentage. When the readout reaches 20%, the machine enters "limp mode" (RPMs slow down) to indicate it needs charging or transport to a charging location. The machine must be charged to resume scraping.

Charging with Stand-Alone Charger:

  1. Park the machine on a level surface.
  2. Turn the machine off by pushing down the red Emergency Stop button.
  3. Plug the DC connector from the stand-alone battery charger (Gray connector) into the receptacle on the front left side of the machine.
  4. Insert the AC electrical plug from the stand-alone charger into a wall outlet matching the charger's voltage. It's critical to charge batteries back to 100% every time to prevent long-term effects from "short charging" and the formation of hard lead sulfate crystals, which reduce battery capacity.

Wheel Scrapers:

The Cyclone is equipped with wheel scrapers to remove debris like VCT from the tires. If traction is lost or debris accumulates, loosen two bolts on the wheel scrapers, slide them against the tires, and retighten.

Blade Changing:

  1. Lift the blade bar to the full UP position.
  2. Place a block under the blade bar assembly for safety.
  3. Push the red button down to stop the electric motor.
  4. Loosen the pinch or clamp bolt at the rear of the blade holder block using a ¼" wrench.
  5. Slide out the dull blade and insert a new blade against the shoulder stop.
  6. Retighten the pinch bolt, remove the wood block, and resume scraping. The large 1-1/8" blade holder bolt should only be hand tight. Blades can be changed quickly with practice and dull blades can be sharpened and reused.

Maintenance Features:

On-Board Charger Operation (Summit II Series 1425W Switch Mode Industrial Battery Charger):

The charger features Bluetooth wireless communication via the ChargerConnect app (Apple® or Android™).

  1. Ensure the Cyclone SS is off (red Emergency Stop button pushed down).
  2. Connect the charger AC power cord to a live AC outlet; the blue "AC PRESENT" LED will turn on. The yellow "CHARGE STATUS" LED will blink slowly, indicating the start of charging.
  3. Do not disconnect the charger during a charge cycle.
  4. Yellow LED blinking quickly indicates 80% charge.
  5. Solid yellow LED indicates the Finish charge cycle phase.
  6. Green "CHARGE COMPLETE" LED blinking quickly indicates an extended Balance/Equalize charge cycle.
  7. The charger automatically terminates when the battery is fully charged (solid green LED or green LED blinking slowly for post-charge phase). Disconnect the AC power cord before operating.
  8. Do NOT disconnect the charger from the batteries or AC power until needed, as this disrupts storage mode and optimum battery maintenance. Storage Mode maintains batteries during long storage periods. Leaving the on-board charger plugged in is preferred for battery maintenance. Lifeline® AGM batteries self-discharge 1-3% per month, with higher temperatures increasing discharge.

Battery Care and Maintenance:

  • DANGER OF EXPLODING BATTERIES: Lead-acid batteries produce explosive hydrogen and oxygen mixtures. Never leave them in airtight enclosures. Charge according to instructions. Keep sparks, flames, and cigarettes away. Ensure tight cable connections. Wear eye and face protection during installation and servicing.
  • DANGER OF CHEMICAL BURNS: Lead-acid batteries contain sulfuric acid. Avoid contact with skin, eyes, or clothing. Never remove or damage vent valves. In case of contact, flush with water and call a physician.
  • DANGER OF BURNS IF TERMINALS ARE SHORTED: Batteries can deliver high currents if terminals are short-circuited, causing heat, burns, and fire. Do not place metal objects across terminals. Remove all metallic items (belt buckles, watches, bracelets, rings) when installing or servicing. Wear insulating gloves and use insulated tools.
  • DANGER OF THERMAL RUNAWAY: Rapid battery temperature increase can lead to melting, fire, or explosion. This occurs with high ambient temperature and/or high charging voltage. Charge according to instructions, avoid heat sources/direct sunlight, and only use OEM-designated chargers.

Temperature Considerations:

Battery temperature significantly impacts performance and life. Cold temperatures reduce capacity. A fully charged battery will not freeze in cold weather, but a discharged battery can freeze even in moderately cold conditions. Frozen batteries cannot charge or discharge effectively and can be permanently damaged.

Servicing:

Lifeline® AGM batteries do not require electrolyte additions. Periodic servicing, including good record keeping, is essential to maintain battery system integrity.

Maintenance Schedules:

  • EVERYDAY MAINTENANCE:
    • Check hydraulic oil level (within 2” of tank top).
    • Torque wheel lug bolts to 100 ft./lbs. and wheel hub nuts (axle nuts) to at least 200 ft./lbs.
    • Inspect all hydraulic components and hoses for leaks and correct immediately.
  • EVERY 100 HOUR MAINTENANCE:
    • Grease front caster wheel assemblies (2 places) and inspect for damage.
    • Grease blade bar shaft (behind blade holder assembly).
    • Check and tighten all hydraulic fittings.
    • Inspect and tighten all joystick steering linkages.
    • Equalize the battery pack by charging to 100%, then unplugging and replugging to start another charge cycle until complete.
  • EVERY 250 HOUR MAINTENANCE:
    • Drain and replace hydraulic oil and filter.

Harsh Environment Effects:

  • Constant impacts from ceramic tile removal can loosen bolts and nuts.
  • Non-marking (white) tires on ceramic tile, marble, or sharp debris will sustain extreme damage; black tires are recommended.
  • Carpet removal often wraps front transport casters with strings. Remove debris from front and rear wheels daily to prevent bearing and seal damage.
