Overview

The OEMTOOLS 1/4" Drive Super Duty Air Impact Ratchet Wrench, model 24415, is a pneumatic tool designed for various automotive and mechanical applications. It offers a powerful yet compact solution for tasks such as removing steering arms, water pumps, brake caliper bolts, and alternators. Its design is particularly suited for hard-to-reach, high-torque fasteners and work in confined areas, featuring a patented reactionless design that aims to eliminate the risk of finger/hand trapping during operation.

Function Description:

This air impact ratchet wrench utilizes compressed air to generate rotational force, allowing for efficient tightening and loosening of fasteners. The "impact" mechanism delivers short, powerful bursts of torque, which is particularly effective for breaking loose stubborn or overtightened bolts and nuts. The ratchet mechanism allows for continuous rotation in one direction while preventing reverse movement, enabling quick and repetitive fastening actions. Its super duty classification indicates a robust construction intended for demanding use. The tool is designed to be connected to an external air compressor via an air hose, which supplies the necessary pneumatic power. The trigger mechanism controls the air flow and thus the operation of the wrench.

Usage Features:

The OEMTOOLS Air Impact Ratchet Wrench is designed for ease of use and versatility.

  • Unpacking and Inspection: Upon receiving the unit, it is crucial to inspect for any transit damage, including loose, missing, or damaged parts. Any damage, especially to labels, or abnormal operation necessitates removal from service and a shipping damage claim. If the tool has been subjected to shock load, discontinue use until it's checked by a factory-authorized service center.
  • Safety Precautions: Users must read and understand all safety information, warnings, and cautions. This includes wearing appropriate safety equipment such as eye protection (ANSI approved safety glasses), dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, and hearing protection. Loose clothing, gloves, neck-ties, rings, bracelets, or other jewelry should be avoided to prevent entanglement. The work area must be kept clean, well-lit, and free of obstructions, grease, oil, trash, and debris. Children and untrained persons should be kept away from the work area. The tool should not be operated under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • Air Supply Connection: Before connecting to the air supply, ensure the air valve (trigger) is in the "off" position. Use only clean, dry, regulated, compressed air at the recommended 90 PSI. Excessive moisture or pressure beyond 90 PSI can lead to reduced torque, rust, and premature wear. Oxygen, carbon dioxide, combustible gases, or any other bottled gas should never be used as a power source.
  • Accessory Use: Only use attachments and accessories specifically recommended or sold by the manufacturer for this Air Ratchet. Unauthorized accessories may be dangerous and can invalidate the warranty.
  • Vibration Reduction: This tool vibrates during use, and prolonged exposure can cause physical injury. To mitigate this, users should wear suitable gloves, choose tools with the lowest vibration when possible, include vibration-free periods, grip the tool lightly, and allow the tool to do the work. If abnormal vibration occurs, discontinue use immediately. Individuals with certain medical conditions (e.g., impaired blood circulation, nervous system disorders, diabetes, Raynaud's Disease) or pregnant women should avoid using this tool or consult a doctor. Smoking during use is also discouraged as nicotine can reduce blood supply to the hands, increasing vibration-related injury risk.
  • Proper Ventilation: Always perform vehicle service in a properly ventilated area. Never run an engine without proper ventilation. If eye, nose, or throat irritation occurs, improve ventilation.
  • Storage: When not in use, disconnect the tool from the air supply and store it in a safe, dry, childproof location.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and safe operation of the Air Impact Ratchet Wrench.

  • Lubrication: Proper lubrication is critical. The use of air tool oil or 3-in-1 machine oil is recommended. The tool should be lubricated each time it is used, and heavily lubricated 3 or 4 times daily during prolonged use. Any excess oil from the motor will be expelled through the rear exhaust port, which should always be directed away from people or objects. If the air system does not have an oiler, manually add a few drops of air tool oil into the air inlet daily.
  • Cleaning: Blow out the air line to clear it of accumulated dirt and moisture. Connect and operate the tool to allow oil to be carried to its interior. Clean the Air Ratchet after use.
  • Damage Inspection: Regularly check the tool for damage. If any part is damaged, it should be carefully inspected and repaired by a qualified technician using only genuine replacement parts. Unauthorized parts can be dangerous and invalidate the warranty. Tag damaged tools "Do not use" until repaired.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides a troubleshooting guide for common issues:
    • Unit will not work: Possible causes include plugged air inlets (remedy: remove fitting and clean) or rusted interior (remedy: disassemble, clean, lube, and reassemble).
    • Unit lacks power: Possible causes include low air supply (remedy: check hoses, tanks, etc.) or lack of lubrication (remedy: lube properly and retry).
    • Internal parts dirty and gummed: Remedy: disassemble, clean, and lube.
    • Components worn: Remedy: disassemble, determine parts requiring replacement, and repair.
  • Service: All servicing and maintenance should be performed by qualified repair personnel.
  • Labels and Nameplates: Maintain all labels and nameplates on the product, as they carry important information. If unreadable or missing, contact customer service.
  • Disposal: At the end of its useful life, dispose of components according to all state, federal, and local regulations.

Warranty:

The OEMTOOLS 1/4" Drive Super Duty Air Impact Ratchet Wrench comes with a one-year warranty from the date of purchase, covering defects in material or workmanship under normal usage. To obtain service, the tool and proof of purchase must be returned, transportation pre-paid, to OEMTOOLS Q.A. Dept. The warranty does not cover abnormal use, abuse, accident, alteration, neglect, unauthorized repairs, or normal wear and tear. It also excludes bits, blades, files, batteries, or calibration.
