Function Description:
The STM7-CB/CBA control box facilitates the operation of various components of the Olympus STM7 measuring microscope. It acts as an interface for controlling illumination, focus, and other motorized movements, depending on the specific model.
For illumination control, the box manages reflected light (MM6-ILW), transmitted light (MM6-ILG), and the illuminator for the focus navigator unit (MM6-ILG). It provides power and control signals to these LED illuminators.
The control box also integrates with external accessories:
- STM7-HS Hand Switch: For manual control of the microscope.
- STM7-MCZ Focus Controller: For motorized focus control, offering fine and coarse adjustment capabilities.
- STM7-AF Autofocus Unit: For automatic focusing, supporting both Track and One-Shot modes.
The control box features several indicators to provide feedback on the microscope's status:
- Pilot lamp: Indicates whether the main switch is ON or OFF.
- REMOTE: Shows if the microscope is controlled by the basic software STM7-BSW.
- ERROR: Blinks to indicate an error condition.
- HS (manual frame only): Indicates connection to the STM7-HS hand switch.
- MCZ (motorized frame only): Indicates connection to the STM7-MCZ focus controller.
- Z SCALE (motorized frame only): Shows if the Z-axis scale is connected properly.
- AF (motorized frame only): Indicates connection to the STM7-AF autofocus unit.
- HALF: Indicates if counter data for X, Y, and Z axes is displayed at half the actual movement distance.
- EPI SEL: Shows if reflected light illumination can be controlled.
- DIA SEL: Shows if transmitted light illumination can be controlled.
- FN SEL: Shows if the illumination for the focus navigator unit can be controlled.
- F FINE (motorized frame only): Indicates small movement distance for the fine/coarse focusing knob.
- F COARSE (motorized frame only): Indicates large movement distance for the fine/coarse focusing knob.
- AF TRACK (motorized frame only): Indicates autofocusing in Track mode.
- Z LIMIT (motorized frame only): Shows if the lower software limit of the focus area is set.

Usage Features:
- Installation: The control box must be installed on a sturdy, level table or bench. For the motorized STM7-CBA, ensure the emergency stop switch is accessible. It must be installed horizontally to prevent overheating.
- Safety Precautions:
- Always use the Olympus-provided power cord to ensure electrical safety and EMC performance.
- Connect the ground terminal of the power cord to a grounded outlet.
- Avoid using the device near strong electromagnetic radiation sources.
- In an emergency, unplug the power cord from the product or wall outlet.
- Turn OFF the device's power before connecting or disconnecting cables and units.
- Do not insert tools or metal fragments into air vents.
- Do not bend, pull, or tie power cords/cables in a bundle.
- Remove the power cord before replacing fuses.
- Do not block air vents; maintain a 10 cm or more space around the right, left, and back sides.
- Avoid direct sunlight, high temperature/humidity, dust, or vibrations.
- Do not use near air conditioning outlets, vibrating equipment, noisy equipment, or flammable substances.
- Do not touch connector pins of modules directly to prevent static damage.
- Do not remove caps or seals from unused connectors.
- Do not connect cables to CAN1 or CAN2 connectors on the STM7-CB.
- Do not connect the MM6C-AF autofocus unit (for STM6) to the AF connector of the STM7-CBA.
- DIP Switch/Rotary Switch Settings: Refer to the "Instruction manual of Measuring Microscope STM7" for detailed settings. Ensure the main switch is OFF when setting DIP switches for changes to take effect.
Maintenance Features:
- Cleaning: Do not use organic solvents on painted or plastic parts. For cleaning, use a lint-free, soft cloth slightly moistened with a diluted neutral detergent.
- Disposal: Follow local government regulations for disposal.
- Caution Labels: If caution labels are dirty or peeled off, contact Olympus for replacements.
This control box is a precision instrument and should be handled with care to avoid sudden impacts or disassembly. It is designed for use in a Class A industrial environment, and its use in domestic settings may cause radio interference.
