Questions and Answers

Overview

This document is an instruction manual for the Omega Rangehood models ORC60MB and ORC90MB. It provides essential information for installation, operation, maintenance, and warranty.

Function Description:

The Omega Rangehood is designed to extract cooking vapours and odours from the kitchen, improving air quality. It is intended for indoor use only and should be operated prior to cooking and for about 15 minutes after cooking to ensure complete elimination of vapours and odours. The appliance features a fan with multiple speed settings and an integrated LED light to illuminate the cooking surface. It can be installed as a ducted system, discharging air through an exhaust pipe to the external wall, or potentially as a recirculating system (though the manual primarily details ducted installation and mentions "not applicable to appliances that only discharge the air back into the room" in a safety warning, suggesting a primary ducted design).

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Models: ORC60MB and ORC90MB
  • Voltage: 220-240V 50Hz for both models.
  • Rated Power Input:
    • ORC60MB: 283W
    • ORC90MB: 290W
  • Lamp:
    • ORC60MB: 1 x 18W LED panel
    • ORC90MB: 1 x 25W LED panel
  • Minimum Installation Distance: 600mm above the cooking surface. The manual suggests an optimal distance of 60-75cm for the best effect.
  • Dimensions (approximate, based on diagrams):
    • Width: 600mm for ORC60MB, 900mm for ORC90MB.
    • Depth: Approximately 493mm.
    • Height (adjustable chimney): 500-980mm.
    • Ducting Diameter: 150mm.
  • Filter Type: High-density Stainless Steel mesh filters.

Usage Features:

The rangehood features a user-friendly control panel with touch buttons for various functions:

  • Power On/Off: A dedicated button to turn the appliance on or off. When connected to power, the indicator light illuminates, and the rangehood enters standby mode. The indicator light turns off automatically if no control button is pressed.
  • Light On/Off: A button to control the integrated LED light.
  • Fan Speed Settings: Three distinct fan speed settings:
    • Low speed
    • Middle speed
    • High speed The default fan speed is low when the power button is pressed. When a function button (including fan speed) is pressed, its indication light illuminates.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is crucial for the rangehood's efficiency and safety.

  • Cleaning the Rangehood Surface: The surface should be cleaned regularly using a cloth moistened with denatured alcohol or a non-abrasive liquid detergent. Abrasive cleaners should not be used.
  • Filter Cleaning: The high-density Stainless Steel mesh filters require regular cleaning to maintain efficiency and prevent grease build-up. It is recommended to clean the filters every 4-6 weeks, depending on the frequency of use. Filters can be cleaned with warm soapy water or a cloth and should be washed separately from crockery and kitchen utensils. Rinse aid is not advisable. Failure to clean the filters regularly poses a fire risk due to grease and fat build-up.
  • Light Replacement: The LED light is non-user replaceable and must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or similarly qualified persons.
  • General Safety during Maintenance: Always ensure the rangehood is turned off at the power point before performing any cleaning or maintenance.

Installation Considerations:

  • The rangehood must be installed at a minimum distance of 600mm above the cooking surface.
  • The installation area must be clean to prevent debris from being sucked into the system.
  • The canopy hood cannot share the same air ventilation ducting with other appliances like gas and electric heaters.
  • The ventilation ducting should not have bends less than 120°, should be parallel or above the exit vent, and connected through an external wall.
  • After installation, it is important to ensure the extractor is level to prevent grease collection at one end.
  • Protective plastic coatings must be removed from stainless steel surfaces before use.

Troubleshooting:

The manual includes a troubleshooting guide to address common issues:

  • Light on, but motor not working: Possible causes include the fan switch being off or failed, or the motor failing. Solutions involve selecting a fan switch position or contacting Omega Service.
  • Light and motor not working: Could be due to blown house fuses or a loose/disconnected power cord. Solutions include resetting/replacing fuses, refitting the power cord, and switching the power outlet on.
  • Oil Leakage: May be caused by a loose seal in the one-way valve, air ventilation entrance, or U-shaped section. Solutions involve sealing these connections.
  • Lights not working: Indicates a broken/faulty LED lamp, requiring contact with Omega Service.
  • Insufficient Suction: Often due to the rangehood being too far from the gas top. Solution is to refit the rangehood to the correct distance.
  • Rangehood Inclines: Caused by loose fixing screws. Solution is to tighten the hanging screw and make it horizontal.

Warranty Information:

The product comes with a warranty from Residentia Group. The Warranty Period for personal, domestic, or household use is 24 months for manufacturing defects. The warranty covers repair or replacement of defective parts, excluding perishable items like light globes, batteries, filters, and seals. Proof of purchase is required for claims. The warranty does not cover damage from misuse, improper installation, normal wear and tear, power surges, or failure to comply with instructions. Missing parts are not covered if not reported within the first week of purchase. The warranty is valid in Australia only.
