      Eric WardAug 17, 2025
If your Omega Ventilation Hood has insufficient suction, it might be because the distance between the hood and the gas top is too long; in this case, readjust the distance. Alternatively, too much ventilation or breeze from open doors or windows could be the cause. To resolve this, choose a better location and re-assemble the machine.

Overview

This document is an instruction manual for the Omega 90cm Glass Canopy Rangehood, models ORC97G and ORC98G. It provides comprehensive information on installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting, along with important safety warnings and warranty details.

Function Description:

The Omega Glass Canopy Rangehood is designed to extract cooking vapors and odors from the kitchen, ensuring a cleaner and more pleasant cooking environment. It can be operated in either ducted mode, where air is discharged outside, or re-circulation mode, where air is filtered through activated charcoal filters and returned to the room. The rangehood features a fan with multiple speed settings and integrated lighting to illuminate the cooking surface.

Important Technical Specifications:

Model ORC97G:

  • Rated Input: 220V-240V~50Hz
  • Rated Power: 268W
  • Lighting Power: 2 x 1.5W LED
  • Air tube diameter: 150MM
  • Air output (Net): 852m³/h

Model ORC98G:

  • Rated Input: 220V-240V~50Hz
  • Rated Power: 268W
  • Lighting Power: 2 x 1.5W LED
  • Air tube diameter: 150MM
  • Air output (Net): 889m³/h

Both models are 90cm wide, intended for use above hobs of the same width. The minimum mounting distance above the cooking surface is 65cm, with an optimal range of 65-75cm for best effect. The overall dimensions include a width of 900mm, depth of 476mm, and adjustable height from 490mm to 970mm.

Usage Features:

The rangehood is equipped with a user-friendly control panel (Fig. 08) featuring five push buttons:

  • Power Button: To turn the unit on and off.
  • Low Button: Sets the extraction fan to low speed.
  • Mid Button: Sets the extraction fan to medium speed.
  • High Button: Sets the extraction fan to high speed.
  • Light Button: Turns the integrated LED lights on and off.

It is recommended to operate the rangehood prior to cooking and to leave it running for 15 minutes after cooking is terminated to effectively eliminate cooking vapors and odors.

Maintenance Features:

Grease Filter Mesh Cleaning:

The rangehood includes high-density stainless steel filter mesh designed to capture grease. These filters should be cleaned regularly, approximately every month, to prevent grease build-up and maintain optimal performance.

  • Manual Cleaning: Place the mesh in 40-50°C clean water with a small amount of detergent for 2-3 minutes. Clean gently with a soft brush, avoiding excessive pressure to prevent damage.
  • Dishwasher Cleaning: The grease filters are dishwasher-safe and can be cleaned at around 60 degrees.
  • Removal/Replacement: To remove, release the front locking mechanism and lower the filter. To replace, ensure the locking mechanism faces down.

Rangehood Body Cleaning:

The main body of the cooker hood should be cleaned every two months using hot water and a non-corrosive liquid detergent to prevent corrosion. Abrasive detergents should be avoided as they can damage the body. It is crucial to keep the motor and other spare parts free from water. Always unplug the appliance before cleaning.

Charcoal Filter (for re-circulation mode):

If the rangehood is used in re-circulation mode, an activated charcoal filter must be in place. These filters are located above the grease filters and are designed to absorb cooking odors. They should not be exposed to heat, and the fixed bar around the filter should not be torn open. Grease filters must be removed before fitting or replacing charcoal filters.

Replacing the Lights:

The rangehood uses 2 x 1.5W LED modules (round lamp, 12V DC, ILCOS D Code: DSR-1.5/65-S-64).

  • Procedure: Before changing lights, ensure the appliance is switched off and unplugged. Remove the grease filter. Press the springs on both sides of the LED light until it falls out. Gently pull the light wire and disconnect the terminal. Reverse these steps to install the new light.

Safety and Installation Notes:

  • Always remove all protective plastic coatings from stainless steel surfaces before use.
  • The rangehood should not share ventilation ducting with other appliances.
  • Ventilation ducting bends should be ≥ 120° and connected through an external wall.
  • Ensure the extractor is level after installation to prevent grease collection.
  • Failure to install screws or fixing devices according to instructions may result in electrical hazards.
  • Do not check filters or touch light bulbs while the hood is operating.
  • Avoid flambéing under the rangehood to prevent filter damage and fire risk.
  • The power cord, if damaged, must be replaced by the manufacturer or an authorized service center.
  • Adequate room ventilation is required when the rangehood is used simultaneously with gas or other fuel-burning appliances.
  • The exhaust air must not be discharged into a flue used for other fuel-burning appliances.

The manual also includes a detailed troubleshooting guide for common issues such as the fan being blocked, motor not working, shaking, or insufficient suction, providing solutions or advising contact with service. Warranty information specifies a 24-month warranty against manufacturing defects for personal, domestic, or household use in Australia, with specific conditions and exclusions.
