Overview

The Osprey Talon/Tempest Pro series offers a range of technical packs designed for adventurous full-day pursuits, whether requiring technical gear or light-and-fast missions. These packs are engineered to optimize stability during activities like peak bagging, bikepacking, and alpine climbing, while maintaining ventilation and comfort. The series is built with upgraded durability and weight savings, featuring Osprey's NanoFly® fabric and subtle design enhancements.

Function Description

The Talon/Tempest Pro series serves as a highly versatile carrying solution for outdoor enthusiasts. Its primary function is to provide a stable, comfortable, and ventilated means of transporting gear during demanding physical activities and over technical terrain. The packs are designed to offer a close-to-body fit that is ideal for dynamic movement, ensuring that the load remains secure and balanced. The series includes both men's (Talon Pro) and women's (Tempest Pro) specific fits, with each tailored to anatomical differences for optimal comfort and load transfer.

Usage Features

The Talon/Tempest Pro packs incorporate a variety of features to enhance usability and adaptability in the field:

  • Harness and Suspension System:

    • LightWire Peripheral Frame (Talon/Tempest Pro 30/28 only): This frame effectively transfers the load to the hipbelt, ensuring stability and comfort.
    • AirScape® Backpanel: An injection-molded framesheet with die-cut foam provides a close-to-body stable fit, offering flexibility and ventilated airflow channels crucial for active use. The mesh-covered foam lumbar area ensures lightweight and comfortable contact.
    • BioStretch Harness: Integrated BioStretch seams offer maximum flexibility without sacrificing stability for dynamic body movement. Spacermesh over die-cut foam provides a breathable and comfortable contact surface. The harness system is easily adjustable to fit various torso lengths, and an adjustable sternum strap with a safety whistle buckle is included.
    • BioStretch Hipbelt: A seamless lumbar-to-hipbelt body wrap and BioStretch seams provide maximum flexibility without sacrificing stability. Spacermesh over die-cut foam ensures a breathable and comfortable contact surface. The Crossbody ErgoPull hipbelt system helps pull the lumbar into the body for a secure fit.
  • Storage and Organization:

    • Large Stretch Woven Front Panel Pocket: Provides quick access to frequently needed items.
    • Stretch Woven Side Pockets: Ideal for water bottles or other essentials.
    • External Hydration Reservoir Sleeve: Located behind the shoulder harness, this sleeve allows for easy loading and unloading of a hydration reservoir. It helps provide proper weight distribution and includes a buckled loop to keep the reservoir upright.
    • Dual-Zippered Fabric Hipbelt Pockets: Offer convenient storage for small items like snacks or a phone, keeping them within easy reach.
    • Easy-Access, Expandable Stretch Mesh Harness Pocket: Another convenient pocket for quick-grab items.
    • Wide-Mouth, Bucket-Style Main Compartment Opening (Talon Pro 30 / Tempest Pro 28): Facilitates easy packing and unpacking of larger gear.
    • Dual-Zippered Panel Access to Main Compartment (Talon Pro 20 / Tempest Pro 18): Offers convenient entry to the pack's interior.
    • Internal Zippered Mesh Pocket with Key Clip: Secure storage for valuables and keys.
    • Top Panel External Zippered Slash Pocket: Additional external storage for small items.
    • Top Panel Zippered Slash Pocket (Talon Pro 20 / Tempest Pro 18): Similar to the above, for smaller items.
  • Attachment Points and Compression:

    • Tuck-Away Ice Axe Attachments with Bungee Tie-Off: Securely holds mountaineering axes or ice tools. The tool shaft slides through the top loop, flips up, and the handle is routed through a bungee with a cord lock nesting into a Y-clip.
    • Blinker Light Attachment: For increased visibility in low-light conditions.
    • Dual Upper and Lower Side Compression Straps: These InsideOut™ compression straps compress the pack when not full, ensuring stable carry and securing items in side pockets. They can be routed either inside or outside the side mesh pockets by unthreading and re-routing the webbing through a duckbill buckle.
    • LidLock™ Bike Helmet Attachment (Talon Pro 20 / Tempest Pro 18): A clip on the top front panel pulls away from the pack, passes through a helmet vent, and secures in a horizontal position. An internal cord adjusts tension as needed.
  • Fit Customization:

    • Harness Adjustment: Load lifter straps at the top of the harness can be loosened. The harness can then be slid into position by releasing the hook and loop attachment between the backpanel and harness, using arrows as a guide, and then firmly pressing to reengage.
    • Women's Specific Fit: The unique suspended mesh contours to a wide variety of body shapes. The pack shape is narrower and deeper, lowering the load's position to a woman's center of gravity for increased stabilization. Shoulder harnesses are designed with specific curves for anatomical fit, and hipbelts are shaped and angled to accommodate conical hip shapes, allowing for more comfortable load transfer and support.

Maintenance Features

While the manual does not detail specific maintenance instructions, it emphasizes the durability of the product. Osprey prides itself on creating functional, durable, and innovative carrying products. For detailed information on product care, users are directed to the Osprey website, which typically provides comprehensive guides on cleaning, storage, and general upkeep to prolong the life of their gear. The use of bluesign® approved recycled materials and PFC-free DWR (Durable Water Repellent) treatments in the construction also suggests a commitment to materials that are easier to maintain and have a reduced environmental impact. The robust NanoFly® fabric is designed to withstand the rigors of outdoor adventures, contributing to the product's longevity and reducing the need for frequent repairs if properly cared for. Osprey's lifetime guarantee also underscores the brand's confidence in the product's durability and its commitment to customer satisfaction, implying that the packs are built to last and be repairable.
