Why is my Paccar BRADEN/GEARMATIC BG8A winch running hot?
    • S
      Sara LambertAug 2, 2025
The Paccar Industrial Equipment winch may run hot due to several reasons. It could be caused by a plugged heat exchanger, which requires thorough cleaning of both the exterior and interior. The hydraulic oil level in the reservoir might be too low or too high, requiring adjustment to the proper level. The hydraulic pump might not be operating efficiently; in this case, tune or adjust the prime mover, check the suction line for damage, or, if belt-driven, replace or tighten slipping belts. If the pump is worn, it should be replaced. Excessively worn or damaged internal winch parts can also cause overheating, necessitating disassembly of the winch to inspect and replace worn parts.

What to do if the Paccar Industrial Equipment winch will not hoist the rated load?
    • M
      Michelle HallAug 6, 2025
If your Paccar Industrial Equipment winch is not hoisting the rated load, there are several possible causes. The winch may be mounted on an uneven or flexible surface, causing distortion. Reinforce the mounting surface and use shims to level the winch, and then evenly retighten all winch mounting bolts to the recommended torque. The system relief valve may be set too low; check the relief pressure by installing a gauge into the brake valve's inlet port and apply a stall pull load while monitoring the pressure, then adjust the relief valve as required. Note that a contaminated or worn-out relief valve may require disassembly or replacement.

What to do if my Paccar BRADEN/GEARMATIC BG8A Industrial Equipment winch brake will not hold a load?
    • M
      Michael Bennett Jr.Aug 10, 2025
If the brake on your Paccar Industrial Equipment winch will not hold a load with the control lever in neutral, it could be due to excessive system back pressure acting on the brake release port. Another reason could be worn or damaged brake discs. Also, the brake clutch might be slipping; in this case, drain the old gear oil, flush the winch with solvent, thoroughly drain the solvent, and refill the winch with the recommended planetary gear oil. The brake clutch may also be damaged or worn, requiring disassembly and inspection.

Why does my Paccar BRADEN/GEARMATIC BG8A Industrial Equipment winch chatter while raising a load?
    • J
      Joseph MillerAug 14, 2025
The Paccar Industrial Equipment winch may chatter while raising a rated load if the controls are being operated too quickly. In this case, conduct operator training as required.

What causes oil leaks from the vent plug in Paccar Industrial Equipment?
    • G
      George MillerAug 23, 2025
Oil leaks from the vent plug in Paccar Industrial Equipment can be caused by a defective motor seal due to high system back pressure or contaminated oil. System back pressure must not exceed 150 PSI. Inspect the hydraulic system for restrictions in the return line from the control valve to the reservoir, and ensure the control valve and plumbing are properly sized to the winch motor. Oil analysis may indicate contamination has worn the motor shaft and seal. Thoroughly flush the entire hydraulic system and install new filters and oil. Install a new motor seal.

Why wire rope does not spool smoothly on the drum of my Paccar Industrial Equipment?
    • S
      Sean StaffordAug 27, 2025
If the wire rope does not spool smoothly on the drum of your Paccar Industrial Equipment, the winch may be mounted too close to the main sheave, causing the fleet angle to be more than 1-1/2 degrees. Check the mounting distance and fleet angle, and reposition the winch as required. Also, the winch may not be mounted perpendicular to an imaginary line between the center of the cable drum and the first sheave. It is also possible that you are using the wrong lay rope. Consult a wire rope manufacturer for a recommendation of wire rope that best suits your application, and replace the wire rope and conduct operator/rigger training as required.

How to fix Paccar Industrial Equipment winch not lowering load smoothly?
    • M
      Mary KaufmanNov 18, 2025
If your Paccar Industrial Equipment winch is not lowering the load smoothly, or not lowering it at all, the problem might be a plugged or loose pilot orifice. To resolve this, remove the pilot hose and fitting from the brake valve, then use a 5/32-inch Allen wrench to remove the pilot orifice. Clean and install the pilot orifice tightly in the brake valve. Also, the friction brake may not be releasing due to a defective brake cylinder seal. Check the brake cylinder seal by disconnecting the swivel tee from the brake release port, connecting a hand pump with an accurate gauge to the fitting in the brake release port, applying 1000 PSI to the brake, closing the shut-off valve, and letting it stand for five minutes. If there is any pressure loss, disassemble the brake cylinder for inspection ...
