Why is my Paccar Winches running hot?
    • R
      Robert GrahamAug 14, 2025
Your Paccar Winches may be running hot due to several reasons: a plugged heat exchanger (clean the exterior and flush the interior), incorrect hydraulic reservoir oil level (adjust to the correct level), an inefficient hydraulic pump (tune/adjust the prime mover; check the suction line for damage; tighten or replace slipping belts; or replace the pump if worn), or excessively worn or damaged internal parts (disassemble the hoist to inspect/replace worn parts). Also, ensure the hydraulic system temperature does not exceed 180°F.

What to do if my Paccar Winches will not hoist the rated load?
    • C
      Cynthia VasquezAug 17, 2025
If your Paccar Winches won't hoist the rated load, several factors could be the cause. The hoist may be mounted on an uneven or flexible surface, causing distortion, in which case you should level the hoist using shims and retighten mounting bolts. The system relief valve may be set too low; check the relief pressure against specifications and adjust as needed, noting that a contaminated or worn relief valve may require disassembly or replacement. Ensure the hydraulic system temperature is not more than 180 degrees F. Also, the hoist line pull rating is based on the first layer of wire rope, so consult the hoist performance charts. Finally, inefficient rigging and sheaves can be a factor, so perform rigging service as recommended by the crane manufacturer.

Why won't the brake hold a load on my Paccar Winches when in neutral?
    • C
      Casey WolfeAug 20, 2025
If the brake on your Paccar Winches won't hold a load in neutral, it could be due to excessive system back pressure acting on the brake release port. The friction brake may not hold due to worn or damaged brake discs. Also, the brake clutch might be slipping, which can be caused by improper planetary gear oil (drain the old oil, flush with solvent, and refill with the recommended oil) or damaged/worn components (disassemble and inspect the brake clutch).

How to fix a Paccar Winches that won't lower smoothly?
    • M
      Matthew DayAug 25, 2025
If your Paccar Winches won't lower the load smoothly, the issue could stem from a plugged or loose pilot orifice. Remove the pilot hose and fitting from the brake valve, then use a 5/32 inch Allen wrench to remove the pilot orifice for inspection. A defective brake cylinder seal can also cause this; disconnect the swivel tee, connect a hand pump with a gauge to the brake release port, apply 1000 PSI, close the shut-off valve, and observe for five minutes to see if there's any pressure loss, which would indicate a need to disassemble the brake cylinder for seal inspection and replacement. Damaged brake discs can also prevent smooth lowering; disassemble the brake to inspect them and check the stack-up height.

What to do if Paccar Winches chatters when lifting?
    • T
      Taylor ColeAug 27, 2025
If your Paccar Winches chatters while raising the rated load, it could be due to the same cause as PROBABLE CAUSE D2. Also, the hydraulic oil flow to the motor may be too low. Another potential cause is operating the controls too quickly; operator training may be required.

    Elizabeth SandersAug 31, 2025
Why is oil leaking from the vent plug of my Paccar Winches?
    • K
      Kenneth LawrenceAug 31, 2025
Oil leaking from the vent plug of your Paccar Winches may be due to the same cause as PROBABLE CAUSE A2. The motor seal may be defective due to high system back pressure or contaminated oil. Ensure system back pressure does not exceed 150 PSI (1,035 kPa), inspect the hydraulic system for return line restrictions, and verify proper sizing of the control valve and plumbing. Perform an oil analysis to check for contamination, thoroughly flush the hydraulic system, install new filters and oil, and replace the motor seal.

How to make wire rope spool smoothly on Paccar Winches?
    • B
      Brittany BurnsSep 3, 2025
To ensure the wire rope spools smoothly on the drum of your Paccar Winches, check the mounting distance and fleet angle to ensure the hoist is not too close to the main sheave (causing a fleet angle greater than 1-1/2 degrees); reposition the hoist if needed. It's also important to verify that the hoist is mounted perpendicular to an imaginary line between the center of the cable drum and the first sheave. Also, consider that the wrong lay rope could be in use, so consult a wire rope manufacturer for a suitable recommendation. If the hoist has been overloaded, causing permanent set in the wire rope, replace the wire rope and provide operator/rigger training.

Why is my Paccar Industrial Equipment leaking oil from the vent plug?
    • N
      Nicholas RileySep 6, 2025
If oil is leaking from the vent plug of your Paccar Industrial Equipment, it could be due to a defective motor seal caused by high system back pressure or contaminated oil. Ensure the hydraulic system back pressure doesn't exceed 100 PSI (6.9 bar) and inspect the hydraulic system for any restrictions in the return line from the control valve to the reservoir. Also, thoroughly flush the entire hydraulic system and install new filters and oil. Then, install a new motor seal.

How to fix a Paccar Braden PD12C hoist that won't lower?
    • A
      Arthur HollowaySep 9, 2025
If the Paccar Industrial Equipment hoist isn't lowering at all, a plugged or loose pilot orifice could be the problem. Remove the pilot hose and fitting from the brake valve, then use a 5/32 inch Allen wrench to remove the pilot orifice. Clean and install the pilot orifice tightly in the brake valve. Another potential cause is that the friction brake may not be releasing due to a defective brake cylinder seal. Check the brake cylinder seal by disconnecting the swivel tee from the brake release port. Connect a hand pump with an accurate 0-2000 PSI gauge and shut-off valve to the –4 JIC fitting in the brake release port. If the friction brake is still not releasing, the brake discs may be damaged. Disassemble the brake to inspect the brake discs.
