In a nicheless installation, the light can be easily removed and installed using a specialized tool, facilitating maintenance and replacement.
Important Technical Specifications:
- Power Source: Powered by PAL PCR-1Z (up to 2 lights) or PCR-2Z (up to 5 lights) Class 2 LED Drivers.
- Voltage: The driver output should be 12V DC.
- Conduit Requirements:
- Niche Installation (Concrete/Gunite): Requires 5.1cm (2") PVC pipe Sch.40 (Niche Sleeve) with a minimum length of 38cm (15"). A 2.54cm (1") conduit glue to Gunite Niche is also specified.
- Nicheless Installation (Gunite/Concrete): Requires a Rigid 1" (3cm) Electrical Rated Conduit. The wall fitting is 1.5" (3.81cm) PVC pipe for Gunite Only. The minimum distance from the top of the lens to the water level is 4" (10.2cm). The minimum height for the Junction Box or 12 VAC Voltage Transformer above the maximum water level is 18" (46cm).
- Niche Installation (Fiberglass/Vinyl): Requires 2.54cm (1") Conduit.
- Tools Required for Installation: 2 1/2" Hole Saw, Silicon + caulking gun, Thread tape.
Usage Features:
- Color Control: The PAL Treo Retro supports color selection and color change modes through the PAL Color Touch Driver. It can be set to specific static colors or cycle through various color programs.
- Synchronization: The device can be synchronized with other PAL lights or with OEM lights from Jandy, Pentair, and Hayward. This is achieved by setting DIP switches on the PAL Color Touch Driver.
- Automation Compatibility: The PAL Treo Retro can be integrated with pool automation systems. When used with automation, the handheld remote control should not be used, and the Wi-Fi module (if equipped) should be disconnected from the board. If automation fails to turn the lights on or off, pressing the S1 button on the PAL Driver can activate it.
- Dimming: Infinite color selection and dimmability features are available, but not when the system is in "Cloned mode" (i.e., synchronized with other OEM lights).
- Installation Flexibility: The device offers multiple installation methods to accommodate different pool constructions:
- Niche Installation: Suitable for concrete, gunite, fiberglass, and vinyl pools, utilizing a niche sleeve or wall fitting.
- Nicheless Installation: A streamlined option for gunite/concrete pools, where the light fits directly into a wall fitting without a traditional niche.
Maintenance Features:
- Easy Removal/Installation (Nicheless): For nicheless installations, the light can be easily removed and reinstalled using a tool that fits into slots on the light. This simplifies maintenance tasks such as cleaning or globe replacement. To remove, twist anti-clockwise; to install, position the light and twist clockwise.
- Troubleshooting Guide: The manual provides a comprehensive troubleshooting guide for common issues such, as the light not turning on or lights being out of sync. This guide helps users diagnose problems related to faulty globes, drivers, cut cables, or incorrect wiring.
- Winterization Recommendations: For regions prone to freezing, specific winterization steps are provided to prevent damage:
- Lower the water level below the light.
- Drain all water from the wall fitting and conduit.
- Alternatively, completely remove the PAL Treo Retro LED light, purge all water from the conduit, and close the wall fitting with a 1 1/2" NPT male plug and thread sealing tape. This is crucial to prevent damage from freeze expansion if water is trapped in the conduit.
- Warranty: The PAL product comes with a 3-year warranty against defects in materials and/or workmanship under normal domestic use. The warranty is void if the product is misused, abused, damaged in transit, incorrectly installed, or connected to an unapproved power supply.
