WEP
– Wired Equivalent
Privacy
An encryption technology used for Wireless LAN (below). To protect security during
information transmissions, communication can only occur when the same network key
(Î page 203) is registered to both parties involved in the communication.
Wireless LAN A LAN (Î page 201) that conducts wireless communications using radio waves. Data is sent
and received using common wireless frequencies. Because a LAN cable is not required, the
computer can be located some distance from the Access Point (Î page 192). ESS-ID
(Î page 197) or WEP (above) can be used to protect security during information
transmissions.
z This computer supports 802.11a+b+g Wireless LAN with Intel
®
 Centrino Technology.
Settings can be changed with the Intel
®
 PROSet/Wireless Software.
WPA
– Wi-Fi Protected Access
WPA compensates for the weaknesses of WEP (above), to further increase security. The
network key (Î page 203), including the IEEE802.1X user authentication standard, is
automatically updated at fixed intervals.
