Overview

This document provides operating instructions for the Panasonic Household Massage Lounger, Model No. EP1015. It covers important safety information, operating precautions, grounding instructions, how to move the chair, parts identification, and detailed usage instructions for various massage functions.

Function Description

The Panasonic Household Massage Lounger EP1015 is designed to provide a comprehensive massage experience. It features various massage types including kneading, tapping, and rolling, which can be applied to different areas of the back, neck, and shoulders. The chair also includes a leg massager for a more complete relaxation. The massage heads are adjustable in terms of position, width, and intensity, allowing for a personalized massage experience. The chair's backrest and legrest can be reclined, either automatically in concert with the massage or manually, to achieve a comfortable position.

Usage Features

The lounger is operated via a wired controller, which provides intuitive access to all massage functions.

Starting and Stopping Massage Action:

To begin a massage, simply press the "on/off" button on the controller. An operation indicator lamp will illuminate to confirm the unit is active. To stop the massage, press the "on/off" button again. The massage heads will retract to their resting position, allowing the chair to be used as a regular lounge chair. For immediate cessation of massage action, a "quick stop" button is available, which stops the massage heads in their current position. To return the heads to the resting position after a quick stop, press the "on/off" button twice.

Automatic Timer:

The massage lounger incorporates a built-in timer that automatically stops the massage after approximately 15 minutes to prevent excessive massaging. If a programmed massage course is selected, the unit will stop upon completion of the program.

Leg Massager Operation:

The leg massager is activated and deactivated independently using its dedicated "on/off" button on the controller. An indicator lamp confirms its operation. The leg massager also has an automatic shut-off timer, stopping after 30 minutes of continuous operation.

Reclining the Chair:

The chair's backrest and legrest can be reclined automatically using the reclining buttons on the controller. Pressing and holding the "up" button extends the legrest and reclines the backrest, while holding the "down" button returns them to their resting positions. The reclining angle can be adjusted to vary the intensity of the massage; a more reclined position generally results in a more intense massage. The legrest can also be extended and lowered manually using a lever located on the side of the chair. Pulling the lever back extends the legrest up to 90 degrees, and pushing it forward lowers it. It's important to note that if the legrest is raised manually, it must also be lowered manually using the lever, as the controller's reclining buttons will not operate it in this state.

Programmed Massage:

The lounger offers several programmed massage courses targeting specific areas:

  • Whole Back Course: Provides a complete massage including neck, shoulders, back stretching, and lower back.
  • Neck and Shoulder Course: Focuses on concentrated massage for the neck and shoulders.
  • Lower Back Course: Delivers concentrated massage to the lower back. Users can select their desired course by pressing the corresponding button on the controller. If no button is pressed, the "whole back" course will start automatically after about 40 seconds. The massage heads' starting height can be adjusted using the "massage heads adjustment" button, with settings from "1" (tallest) to "5" (shortest) to accommodate different user heights. This adjustment can be made at any time during a massage. For those who prefer a massage without tapping, a "tapping" button allows users to toggle the tapping movement off, changing it to kneading instead. Pressing the button again re-activates tapping.

Manual Massage:

For a customized experience, the lounger offers manual control over various massage types:

  • Kneading Massage (Upward & Downward): Activated by the "knead" button. Each press alternates the kneading direction.
  • Tapping Massage: Activated by the "tap" button. The massage heads move to the narrowest position and begin tapping.
  • Rolling Massage: Activated by the "roll" button. The massage heads move to the narrowest position and begin rolling. For all manual massage types, users can adjust the height of the massage heads using the "up" and "down" buttons. The intensity of the massage can be adjusted using the "intensity" buttons. For tapping and rolling massages, the width between the massage heads can also be selected (narrow or wide) using the "width" adjustment button. Additionally, for rolling, kneading rolling, and tapping rolling modes, the "stroke" adjustment button allows selection of the focus area (regional or full back). It is possible to combine different manual massage types, such as kneading rolling or tapping rolling. If two functions are active, one can be turned off by pressing its control button again.

Back Cushion and Headrest:

The back cushion is attached to the chair with a zipper. Removing the back cushion can provide a stronger massage. The headrest drapes over the back cushion and can be flipped over the back of the chair or removed for massage use.

Cushion Insert Pad:

A foam cushion insert pad is provided to soften the effect of the massage, particularly for the vigorous shiatsu massage. This pad is placed underneath the back cushion at the waist position. It can be removed for a full shiatsu massage, but users are advised to start with short durations (under two minutes) to assess the intensity.

Maintenance Features

Caring for the Massager:

  • Always unplug the chair before cleaning.
  • For soiled covering, dampen a cloth with liquid soap and brush the surface, then wipe with a water-dampened cloth and allow to air dry.
  • For soiled plastic parts, use lukewarm water with liquid soap on a soft cloth.
  • Avoid using thinner, benzene, or other solvent-type cleaners, as these can discolor or damage the materials.
  • After each use, turn the power switch to "off" and move its lock switch to the "lock" position to prevent accidental operation, especially by children. Unplugging the power cord after each use is also recommended as a further precaution.

Safety Precautions:

  • The chair is designed for a maximum user weight of 264 lbs. (120 kg). Exceeding this limit can cause permanent damage and is not covered under warranty.
  • Do not sit on or drop the controller, and avoid pinching cords.
  • Do not treat the chair roughly (e.g., forcing the reclining lever, standing on it).
  • Keep sharp objects away from the covering and avoid dropping lit ashes or matches.
  • Protect the chair from direct sunlight, which can cause fading or color changes.
  • If the massager functions abnormally, turn off the power immediately and contact an authorized service center. Do not attempt self-repair.
  • Avoid repeatedly operating switches at short intervals to prevent malfunction.
  • Some operational noise is normal due to the massager's structure.
  • Ensure ample space behind the chair before reclining (at least 16 inches or 40 cm from any obstacle) to prevent malfunction or contact with walls. Recline slowly.
  • If excessive pressure is applied to the massage heads, they may stop for safety. Slightly raise your body to allow them to move up.
