Do you have a question about the Panasonic EVERVOLT EV-BMS and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The EVERVOLT Battery Series is an advanced energy storage system designed for residential applications, offering high reliability and convenient control. The system primarily consists of a Battery Management System (BMS), one or more battery modules, and a base.

Function Description

The EVERVOLT Battery Series is a rechargeable battery system that manages energy storage and discharge to loads. The BMS is the electronic system responsible for managing the rechargeable battery, ensuring its safe and efficient operation. The system supports both AC and DC coupled configurations. It is designed to provide a safe and reliable energy source, with built-in secondary protection and an IP65 protection level, making it suitable for various environmental conditions. The system also offers a "Black Start" capability, allowing it to continue running even if the power grid and photovoltaic panel are out of service, by pressing and holding the POWER button for 20 seconds until the SOC indicators flash blue alternately.

Usage Features

The EVERVOLT Battery Series is designed for ease of use and installation, with several features to enhance user experience. It supports both floor and wall mounting, offering flexibility in installation environments. The system is compact, requiring a small occupied area.

For installation, users can choose from different schemes depending on the number of battery modules and the mounting preference (floor or wall). The installation process involves placing the base, battery modules, and BMS, securing them with screws and brackets, and connecting the necessary wiring. Detailed instructions are provided for each step, including specific torque requirements for screws and recommended tools. It is crucial to follow all safety instructions and ensure the installation is performed by qualified electricians.

The BMS features a power button, BAT+ and BAT- terminals for inverter connection, DIP switches for parallel function (reserved), and a communication port for inverter communication. A lamp panel displays the battery status and SOC power indicators. The battery module includes a circuit breaker for input and output. Hot-plug interfaces are used for connecting the BMS to the battery modules and the battery modules to the base or other modules.

The system's status is indicated by a status light and SOC power indicators on the BMS. These indicators provide visual feedback on the battery's operational state (charging, discharging, idle, fault, upgrade, Black Start) and current charge percentage. In case of a fault, the indicators flash in specific patterns to help diagnose the issue, with a fault code table provided for detailed troubleshooting.

The EVERVOLT Battery Series supports capacity expansion. If a user wishes to increase the battery system capacity, it is important to ensure the SOC of the existing system capacity is around 40% and that the new battery's manufacture date does not exceed 6 months. For floor mounting, the inverter must be removed before adding battery modules. For wall mounting, the inverter may or may not need to be removed depending on the available distance to the ground.

Maintenance Features

Maintaining the EVERVOLT Battery Series is straightforward, with guidelines provided to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

For non-operational batteries, if not installed within one month of receipt, they must be charged for maintenance according to local regulations. For storage, if the ambient temperature is between -4°F and 122°F (-20°C and 50°C), the batteries should be recharged at least once every 3 months. If the ambient temperature is between 32°F and 104°F (0°C and 40°C), recharging is required at least once every 12 months. If batteries have not been used for more than 9 months, they must be charged to at least 50% SOC.

When replacing or adding a battery for capacity expansion, it is essential that each battery's SOC is consistent, with a maximum difference of ±5%. For first installations, the interval among manufacture dates of battery modules should not exceed 3 months.

Troubleshooting guidance is provided for various error conditions, including external and internal BMS faults, overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent, circuit faults, insulation faults, sensor faults, and communication issues. For most faults, the recommended solution is to restart the BMS and, if the issue persists, contact technical support. The manual also outlines procedures for shutting down the system, which involves pressing the power button and opening the air switch's guard.

For decommissioning, the battery unit should be shut down, and all cables between the BMS, inverter, and series wiring terminals should be disconnected. The BMS and battery modules should then be packed in their original packaging or an equivalent carton suitable for loads over 154.32 lbs (70.00 kg) and properly sealed for environmentally-safe recycling.

The EVERVOLT Battery Series warranty is valid when the product is installed and used as described in the manual. The warranty does not cover damages or defects caused by force majeure, improper use or installation, inadequate ventilation, corrosive environments, transportation damage, unauthorized repairs, or connection to incompatible inverters or other brands without company authority. Regular maintenance is crucial for warranty claims made beyond 120 months from the commissioning date.
