Overview

This document describes the Panasonic Induction Heating Cooktop, available in models KY-C227E and KY-A227E. The KY-C227E model offers both free-standing and built-in options, while the KY-A227E is exclusively for built-in installation.

Function Description

The Panasonic Induction Heating Cooktop utilizes an IH (Induction Heating) mechanism for cooking. This method is flameless, ensuring comfortable cooking with less room temperature rise. The flat top plate design allows for easy cleaning. It is highly efficient and energy-saving.

The core of the IH cooking mechanism involves a magnetic coil that produces a magnetic line of force. This force passes through metallic cookware, inducing an eddy current. The cookware then generates heat through its electrical resistance, directly heating the food.

The cooktop features an IR sensor, which plays a crucial role in easing cooking. The IR sensor prevents overheating and restores the temperature to the original level when ingredients are added and the temperature drops. For proper operation, the IR sensor must be covered by the cookware and kept free of water.

The cooktop offers various cooking modes:

  • Heating Mode: For basic cooking with 9 heat levels (75 W to 3200 W).
  • Pan-frying Mode (KY-C227E only): Allows pan-frying with temperature settings ranging from 140 °C to 230 °C, with 5-level adjustment. This mode helps cook delicious food without burning due to overheating.
  • Deep-frying Mode (KY-C227E only): Automatically maintains temperature for crispy and tasty food, with settings from 140 °C to 200 °C and 7-level adjustment. For deep-frying, a minimum of 200 g (0.22 L) of oil, at least 1 cm deep, is required.
  • Congee Mode: Offers automatic congee cooking for 4 or 2 servings, with a cooking timer from 1 minute to 9 hours 30 minutes. The setting range for cooking less thickened congee is 2:00-3:00 (by 10 min.).

A timer function is available for all modes, allowing settings from 1 minute to 9 hours 30 minutes.

Important Technical Specifications

Power Supply: Single phase 220 V ~ 50 Hz Power Consumption: 3200 W Standby Power Consumption (approx.): 0.5 W (when the main power is off) Dimensions (approx.):

  • KY-C227E: (W) 742 × (D) 400 × (H) 107 mm
  • KY-A227E: (W) 742 × (D) 400 × (H) 93 mm Weight (approx.):
  • KY-C227E: 11.5 kg
  • KY-A227E: 11.4 kg Heat Level Adjustment (approx.): 9-level adjustment, 75 W - 3200 W equivalent Pan-frying Temperature Adjustment (approx.): 5-level adjustment, 140 °C-230 °C Deep-frying Temperature Adjustment (approx.): 7-level adjustment, 140 °C-200 °C Congee Mode: 4 servings or 2 servings Cooking Timer: 1 minute - 9 hours 30 minutes

Simultaneous Use of Both Cooking Zones: Heating power may be automatically regulated to restrict overall power consumption. This means heating power may weaken, the heat level may decrease, and it might not be possible to increase the heat level if both zones are used simultaneously. To increase the heat level, users should avoid using both cooking zones together or reduce the heat level of one.

ECONAVI Energy Saving Effect (KY-C227E only): Based on cooking 3 pancakes in a row with a Panasonic standard pan (frying one side for 6 min. and the other side for 2 min. at 160 °C, Level 4), the power consumption is approximately 147.5 Wh, resulting in a 23% saving compared to 191.5 Wh without ECONAVI. The energy-saving effect varies depending on cooked volume, pan size, and material.

Usage Features

Cookware Compatibility:

  • Compatible: Iron/Cast iron, enamelled iron, magnetic stainless steel. Cookware should have a flat bottom of 12 cm or over.
  • Incompatible: Aluminum/Copper, heat-resistant glass/ceramic/earthenware, nonmagnetic stainless steel. Cookware with thin bottoms, empty enamelware, or bottoms under 12 cm are not suitable or may reduce heating power. Curved or legged bottoms may also reduce heating power or prevent safety features from functioning properly.

Operation Panel: Features touch controls for power, cooking modes (Pan-Fry, Deep-Fry, Congee), heat level adjustment, and timer. The KY-C227E model includes a luminous circle that indicates heat level and flashes when the top plate is hot. An ECONAVI lamp is also present on the KY-C227E.

Safety Features:

  • No cookware detected: The appliance will not operate if no suitable cookware is detected.
  • Small object on cooking zone: Prevents operation if small metallic objects are placed on the cooking zone.
  • Empty pot on cooking zone: Detects if a pot is empty and prevents overheating.
  • No operation for a long time: Automatically shuts off if no operation is performed for an extended period (e.g., 1 minute for main power auto shut-off, 45 minutes for heating stops).
  • Overheating prevention: Automatically reduces heating power if the bottom of the cookware overheats.
  • Hot surface warning: An indicator illuminates when the top plate is hot.
  • Child lock: Locks all operations to prevent accidental use.

Cooking Tips:

  • Always cover the IR sensor with cookware.
  • Wipe water off the bottom of cookware before cooking.
  • For deep-frying (KY-C227E only), observe the oil amount (200 g - 800 g, 0.22 L - 0.9 L, at least 1 cm deep) and avoid using hot, browned, cloudy, or sediment-filled oil.
  • Stir liquids before heating to prevent splattering.
  • Do not heat empty cookware or overheat ingredients.
  • For congee, measure rice and water accurately and do not use hot water.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning:

  • Always allow the appliance to cool down before cleaning.
  • Light stains: Use a damp cloth.
  • Oil stains: Use a cloth dampened in a diluted neutral detergent.
  • Heavy stains: Use cream cleaner with plastic wrap or aluminum foil.
  • Be sure to remove all stains, as scorched stains can stick to the top plate.
  • For free-standing appliances, wipe off oil stains from the front and sides.
  • Caution: Do not use a steam cleaner, as water may get into electrical components and cause malfunction.

Error Indications: The cooktop displays error codes (e.g., U04, U13, U14, U16, U19, U33, U34) to indicate specific issues such as clogged vents, no cookware, empty pot, hot top plate, or unsuitable oil for deep-frying. After resolving the cause, the error can be cleared by touching the power or mode keys. If the problem persists or an "H" error appears, contact a service center.

Troubleshooting: The manual provides a comprehensive troubleshooting guide for power source issues (e.g., main power not turning on, auto shut-off), sound and noise during heating, heating power issues (e.g., weaker heating, overheating prevention), and operation panel problems (e.g., key operation disabled, keys reacting to touch).
