Overview

This document provides operating instructions for a range of Panasonic Microwave Ovens, including models NN-7850, NN-7750, NN-6850, NN-6800, NN-6750, NN-6700, NN-6550, NN-6500, NN-6450, NN-6400 (750W models), and NN-5750, NN-5700, NN-5550, NN-5350, NN-5250 (650W models). It covers essential precautions, general use guidelines, food preparation advice, control panel functions, and maintenance procedures to ensure safe and effective operation.

Function Description

The Panasonic Microwave Oven is designed for heating and cooking food using microwave energy. It offers various cooking modes and power levels to accommodate different food types and preparation needs. The oven features a display window, time pads, micro power pads, and a start/stop/reset function for basic operation. More advanced models include auto defrost, auto reheat, sensor reheat, one-touch cooking, and memory functions, providing convenience and versatility.

The core function of the microwave is to generate microwaves that interact with food molecules, causing them to heat up. The power output varies by model, with some operating at 750W and others at 650W, influencing cooking speed and intensity. The oven is equipped with a door safety lock system that automatically stops microwave emission when the door is opened, ensuring user safety.

Usage Features

General Operation: Before operating, users must read the instructions completely. The oven should be placed on a flat, stable surface with adequate air circulation (10 cm at the back, 5 cm on sides and top). It is designed for household use and should not be used for home canning, deep-fat frying, or heating sealed containers, as these can pose safety risks.

Basic Cooking: To start cooking, food is placed in the oven, and the desired power level and cooking time are selected. For models with a power select control, the dial is turned to the correct power level, and then the timer is set. For models with digital pads, the Micro Power Pad is pressed to select the power level (e.g., 1x for HIGH, 2x for DEFROST, etc.), followed by setting the cooking time using the Time Pads. The Start Pad initiates the cooking process.

Setting the Clock: For models except NN-5250, the clock can be set using the Auto Start/Clock Pad. After pressing the pad, the colons in the display will blink. The time is then set using the time pads (e.g., 1x for 10 Min, 1x for 1 Min, 2x for 10 Sec, 5x for 1 Sec for 11:25). Pressing the Auto Start/Clock Pad again locks the time into the display. The oven will not operate if the colons are still blinking.

Cooking Sequences: The oven supports one-stage, two-stage, and three-stage cooking programs.

  • One-Stage Cooking: Select power level, then cooking time, and press Start. For HIGH power, pressing the Micro Power Pad might not be necessary; simply set the time and press Start.
  • Two-Stage Cooking: Program the first power level and time, then the second power level and time, and press Start.
  • Three-Stage Cooking: Program the first power level and time, then press the Timer/Stand Pad to set a stand time, then the final power level and time, and press Start.

Auto Start Feature: This feature allows users to delay the start of cooking. After selecting the power and cooking time, the Auto Start/Clock Pad is pressed, and the desired start time is set. The oven will then begin cooking at the pre-set time.

Timer/Stand Feature: This function can be used to program a stand time after cooking or as a kitchen timer. The Timer/Stand Pad is pressed, and the desired stand time is set. The oven will beep when the stand time is completed.

Auto Defrost: For models except NN-5350/5250, the Auto Defrost feature allows defrosting food by weight. The Auto Defrost Pad (e.g., 1.0Kg or 0.1Kg) is pressed, and the weight is set. The oven automatically calculates the defrosting time and power.

Auto Reheat (NN-6550/6500/6450/6400/5550/5350): This feature reheats food based on the number of servings. The Reheat Pad is pressed repeatedly until the desired number of servings (1-4) appears in the display, then Start is pressed.

One Touch Menu (NN-6550/6500/6450/6400/5550): This allows programming one recipe into memory. To set, select power and cooking time, then press Memory. To use, press Memory, then Start.

Dedicated One Touch Cooking Pads (Potato, Defrost Bread, Frozen Vegs, Rice, Chicken Pieces): These pads allow cooking or defrosting specific foods without manually setting times or powers. The user presses the desired category pad (e.g., Potato) until the desired serving size appears, then Start.

Sensor Reheat (NN-7850/7750/6850/6800/6750/6700/5750/5700): This feature reheats precooked room temperature and refrigerator temperature foods automatically without requiring manual time or power settings. The Sensor Reheat pad is pressed, and the oven determines the optimal reheating process.

One Touch Cooking (NN-7850/7750/6850/6800/6750/6700/5750/5700): Similar to Sensor Reheat, this feature cooks popular foods automatically. The user selects the category (e.g., Vegetables, Chicken) and item number, and the oven handles the cooking.

More/Less Pad (NN-7850/7750/6850/6800/6750/6700/5750/5700): When using Sensor Reheat or One Touch Cooking, this pad allows adjusting the cooking time for a longer or shorter duration (1x for more, 2x for less).

Door Release Button: Opening the door during cooking pauses the program without canceling it. Cooking resumes once the door is closed and the Start Pad is touched. The oven light turns on when the door is open.

Beep Sound: A beep confirms correct pad presses. Two beeps indicate transitions between programmed stages, and five beeps signal the completion of a program.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning: Regular cleaning is crucial for maintaining the oven's performance and safety.

  • Before Cleaning: Turn off the oven and unplug it from the wall socket.
  • Inside the Oven: Wipe with a damp cloth. A mild detergent can be used for stubborn dirt. Avoid harsh detergents or abrasives.
  • Outside Surfaces: Clean with a damp cloth. Prevent water from seeping into ventilation openings.
  • Control Panel: Clean with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use detergents, abrasives, or spray-on cleaners. Keep the oven door open while cleaning the control panel to prevent accidental activation. After cleaning, touch STOP/RESET or ensure the timer is off.
  • Steam Accumulation: If steam accumulates on or around the door, wipe with a soft cloth. This is normal under high humidity and does not indicate a malfunction.
  • Glass Tray: Remove and wash in warm soapy water or a dishwasher.
  • Roller Ring and Oven Cavity Floor: Clean regularly to prevent excessive noise. Wipe the bottom surface with mild detergent, water, or window cleaner. The roller ring can be washed in soapy water or a dishwasher. Ensure the roller ring is replaced in the correct position after cleaning.

Safety Inspections: Before use, inspect the oven for damage, including the grille, door fit, hinges, door safety switches, metal seal plates, and door seals. Do not use the oven if any of these components are damaged or not functioning correctly.

Earthing: The microwave oven must be earthed to reduce the risk of electric shock. It is equipped with an earthing wire and plug, which must be plugged into a properly installed and earthed outlet.

General Precautions:

  • Never tamper with or inactivate interlocking devices.
  • Do not poke objects (especially metal) through the grille or between the door and oven while operating.
  • Avoid placing saucepans, unopened cans, or heavy metal objects in the oven.
  • Do not let metallic articles touch the side of the oven.
  • Do not operate the oven without the manufacturer-provided trays.
  • Do not operate the oven without a load (food or water) in the cavity, unless specified.
  • Do not rest heavy objects on the door when open.
  • Do not place sealed containers (including baby bottles with screw caps or teats) in the oven.
  • Do not dry clothes, newspapers, or other materials in the oven, as they may catch fire.
  • Do not use recycled paper products, newspapers, or paper bags for cooking.
  • Do not hit or strike the control panel.
  • Use pot holders as the glass tray and cooking container can become very hot.
  • Do not store flammable materials near, on top of, or in the oven.
  • Do not cook food directly on the glass tray unless specified in recipes.
  • Do not use the oven to heat chemicals or non-food products, or clean it with corrosive chemicals, as this may cause microwave radiation leaks.
  • If a fire occurs, touch STOP/RESET, leave the door closed, disconnect power, and shut off the fuse or circuit breaker.
  • Do not overcook food. Attend carefully if paper, plastic, or other combustible materials are used.
  • Remove wire twist-ties from bags before placing them in the oven.
  • If materials inside ignite, keep the door closed, turn off the oven at the wall switch, or shut off power at the fuse/circuit breaker.
  • Do not use a conventional meat thermometer; use a microwave thermometer or check after removing food from the oven.
  • Always undercook rather than overcook, as food can always be returned for further cooking.

Fuse Replacement: Panasonic microwave ovens should be operated on a separate 230-240 V 10 A circuit. Do not insert a higher value fuse in the power board, as this can cause the fuse to blow or food to cook slower.

Service: If the appliance is damaged, especially the door seals or supply cord, it must be repaired by a service technician trained by the manufacturer. It is dangerous for anyone else to service the appliance. If the oven light needs replacement, consult a dealer.
