Usage Features

The primary usage feature of the SB-W335EG is its role as an active subwoofer, meaning it has a built-in amplifier and requires a power connection in addition to the audio signal. It is designed to be connected to a main unit (music center) via speaker cables.

Connection of Speaker Cables:

  • Precaution: Always connect speaker cables before connecting the AC power supply cord to prevent damage.
  • Impedance: The load impedance of any speaker used with this unit must be 4 Ω.
  • Polarity: It is crucial to connect positive (+) (white) wires to positive (+) terminals and negative (-) (blue) wires to negative (-) terminals. Incorrect connection can damage the speakers.
  • Cable Preparation:
    1. Strip off the outer covering of the speaker cables and twist the center conductor. Ensure bare ends are not unraveled.
    2. Insert the prepared wire into the rear panel terminal of the unit and close the lever.
  • Wiring Diagram: The manual provides a clear wiring diagram showing connections for the subwoofer (SB-W335), center speaker (SB-PC335), front speakers (SB-FS335), and surround speakers (SB-FS335) to the main unit (SA-HT330/335). Speaker-cable stickers are provided for easy identification.

Maintenance Features

The service manual outlines detailed disassembly and assembly procedures for technicians, focusing on the Front Cabinet Assembly and the Woofer.

1. Disassembly Process:

  • 1.1. Disassembly of the Front Cabinet Assembly:

    1. Step 1: Use a steel ruler to create a gap between the Front Cabinet Assembly and the Speaker Cabinet Assembly.
    2. Step 2: Insert a wood chip into the gap between the Front Cabinet Assembly and the steel ruler.
    3. Step 3: Use a screwdriver to carefully lift the Front Cabinet Assembly, ensuring the screwdriver is above the wood chip block.
    4. Step 4: Remove the Front Cabinet Assembly from the Speaker Cabinet Assembly.
    • Note: Technicians are cautioned to be careful with the bosses (protrusions) that are glued to the Speaker Cabinet Assembly.
  • 1.2. Disassembly of the Woofer:

    1. Step 1: Remove all 4 screws securing the Woofer Guard and then remove the guard itself.
    2. Step 2: Carefully take out the Woofer from the Speaker Cabinet Assembly.
    3. Step 3: Detach the (+) white and (-) blue wires from the Woofer to fully remove it.

2. Assembly Process (Reverse of Disassembly):

  • 1.1.1. Assembly of the Front Cabinet Assembly:
    1. Step 1: Clean any remaining glue from the 8 bosses on the Front Cabinet Assembly and apply new, normal glue.
    2. Step 2: Firmly replace the Front Cabinet Assembly back onto the Speaker Cabinet Assembly.
