Overview

This document provides operating instructions for the Panasonic OLED TV models TX-55GZ950B and TX-65GZ950B. It covers essential information for safe and effective use, including setup, connections, controls, and maintenance.

Function Description

The Panasonic OLED TV is a digital television designed to operate on AC 220-240 V, 50/60 Hz. It features a built-in wireless LAN and Bluetooth® wireless technology for network connectivity and device pairing. The TV supports DVB/Data broadcasting/IPTV functions, offering access to various digital services and internet applications. It is equipped with HDMI ports for connecting 4K/HDR compatible equipment, USB ports for recording to an external HDD, and AV input for older devices. The TV also includes a headphone/subwoofer jack for audio output.

The TV comes with a remote control (N2QAYB001179) for easy operation, allowing users to switch the TV on/off, change viewing modes, access the main menu, navigate channels, adjust volume, and interact with various functions and applications. The remote control also features coloured buttons for specific functions, numeric buttons for channel selection and text input, and dedicated buttons for Netflix, eHELP, My App, Input mode selection, APPS, Subtitles, Exit, HOME, and TV Guide.

The TV incorporates an "eHELP" system, which serves as a built-in operating instruction manual, providing detailed explanations for all features and operations. This system includes keyword search, purpose-based search, and support information (FAQs).

Usage Features

Installation and Setup: The TV requires assembly of a pedestal for table-top use. Alternatively, it can be mounted on a wall using a compatible wall-hanging bracket (sold separately). During installation, it's crucial to ensure all screws are securely tightened and to handle the TV carefully to prevent damage. Cable management accessories like cable clamps and ties are provided to keep connections tidy.

The first-time auto setup guides users through selecting their viewing environment (Home or Shop), setting up network connections (wired or wireless), and tuning available TV channels (Satellite, Freeview, Analogue). The TV automatically searches for channels and provides options for initial configuration.

Connectivity: The TV offers multiple connection options:

  • Aerial Input: For terrestrial and cable TV signals.
  • Satellite Input: For satellite dish connections, supporting dual and single tuner setups.
  • HDMI Inputs (1-4): For connecting various external equipment, including DVD/Blu-ray recorders, game consoles, and 4K/HDR compatible devices. HDMI2 supports Audio Return Channel (ARC) for amplifier connections. The [HDMI Auto Setting] in the Setup Menu allows users to optimize image reproduction for 4K compatible equipment.
  • USB Ports (1-3): USB1 is a SuperSpeed USB (USB 3.0) port for connecting USB HDDs for recording. USB2/3 are Hi-Speed USB (USB 2.0) ports.
  • AV IN (COMPONENT/VIDEO): For connecting older devices like DVD players or camcorders using component or composite video cables.
  • DIGITAL AUDIO OUT: For connecting to amplifiers for multi-channel sound.
  • ETHERNET: For wired network connection.
  • CI Slot: For Common Interface modules to access encrypted channels.
  • Headphone/Subwoofer Jack: For connecting headphones or an external subwoofer.

Watching TV: Users can turn the TV on using the power button on the TV or the remote control. The TV allows selection of different input modes (TV, Freeview, Satellite, AV) and channels. The remote control provides direct access to various applications and services, including Netflix and Freeview Play.

eHELP System: The built-in eHELP system is accessible via a dedicated button on the remote control. It provides comprehensive instructions and troubleshooting tips. Users can navigate through menus, search for specific topics, and access support information.

Maintenance Features

Display Panel, Cabinet, Pedestal Care: Regular cleaning involves gently wiping surfaces with a soft cloth to remove dirt and fingerprints. For stubborn dirt, a slightly dampened cloth with clean water or diluted neutral detergent can be used, followed by wiping away all moisture. It is crucial to avoid using hard cloths, excessive force, insect repellents, solvents, thinners, or other volatile substances, as these can damage the screen and cabinet. The display panel is specially treated and can be easily scratched, so care must be taken not to tap or scratch it with fingernails or hard objects.

Mains Plug Maintenance: The mains plug should be wiped with a dry cloth at regular intervals to prevent the accumulation of moisture and dust, which could lead to fire or electrical shock.

Panel Maintenance: The TV features an automatic panel maintenance function to prevent "image retention" on the OLED screen. This maintenance is performed when the TV is turned off using the remote control. There are two types: normal maintenance (approx. 10 minutes) and regular maintenance (approx. 80 minutes). During maintenance, the LED indicator turns orange. Users should avoid touching or exerting pressure on the screen during this process. If regular maintenance is necessary, a message will appear on the screen after turning the TV off, prompting the user to initiate it.

Battery Replacement: The remote control uses R6 batteries. When replacing batteries, ensure correct polarity, use the same or equivalent type, and do not mix old and new or different battery types. Batteries should be disposed of correctly and removed if the remote control is not used for a prolonged period to prevent leakage.

Troubleshooting (FAQs): The manual includes a FAQ section to address common issues such as the TV not switching on, the remote control not working, no image display, or unusual image display. It suggests checking connections, power supply, battery status, and input modes. The TV also has a built-in Self Test function to diagnose picture or sound problems. For persistent issues, users are advised to contact their local Panasonic dealer.

Safety Precautions: The manual emphasizes safety precautions related to the mains plug and lead, general handling of the TV (avoiding strong force, unstable surfaces, and climbing), suffocation/choking hazards from packaging, pedestal installation, radio wave interference, and excessive volume from headphones. Proper ventilation is also highlighted to prevent overheating.
