Overview

This document describes the Panasonic OLED TV, models TX-55MZ1500B and TX-65MZ1500B, providing detailed instructions on its operation, usage, and maintenance.

Function Description

The Panasonic OLED TV is a smart television designed for high-quality viewing and interactive experiences. It supports various input sources, including AV devices, aerial and satellite connections, and network services, enabling access to digital broadcasts, streaming content, and internet applications. The TV features a built-in wireless LAN and Bluetooth® wireless technology for seamless connectivity with other devices and networks. Voice control functionality allows users to operate the TV through spoken commands, enhancing ease of use. The TV also supports 4K and HDR compatible equipment, delivering precise images with expanded color gamut and high frame rates. For recording purposes, it can be connected to a USB HDD.

Usage Features

Initial Setup:

Upon first power-on, the TV guides users through an automatic setup process to search for available TV channels and configure initial settings. This includes selecting the country, viewing environment (Home/Shop), and setting up network connections. Users can choose between wired or wireless network connections. The TV's remote control needs to be registered (paired) for full functionality, especially for voice controls. If registration fails, a specific procedure is provided to re-register the remote.

Image Display and Settings:

The OLED panel is designed to display vibrant images. To prevent "image retention" (where still parts of an image remain dimly on the screen), users are advised to avoid displaying static images for prolonged periods. Features like screen savers and on-screen messages are activated if no signals or operations are performed. The "Logo Luminance Control" can be set to [Max] to further prevent image retention. The TV's brightness may dim with motionless images, but it returns to normal with active content. Aspect ratio can be adjusted to [4:3 Full] for 4:3 images.

Audio Features:

The TV offers various audio output options. Headphones or a subwoofer can be connected via the 3.5 mm stereo mini jack, with settings adjustable in the Sound menu. The TV supports Bluetooth® audio devices, allowing up to two A2DP-compatible devices to be connected simultaneously. Users should be aware that there might be a slight delay between video and audio playback when using Bluetooth® audio due to wireless technology characteristics.

Connectivity:

The TV provides multiple HDMI inputs, with HDMI 1 and 2 supporting 4K120Hz, VRR, NVIDIA® G-SYNC® Compatible, and AMD FreeSync™ Premium. The "HDMI Auto Setting" in the Setup menu allows users to optimize image reproduction for 4K compatible equipment. AV input terminals are available for older devices, requiring specific shielded cables. USB ports (one SuperSpeed USB 3.0 and two Hi-Speed USB 2.0) are provided for connecting USB HDDs for recording. A Common Interface slot is available for CI Plus modules, which are used to decrypt encrypted channels.

Remote Control and Voice Control:

The supplied remote control can operate via either Bluetooth® wireless technology or infrared communication. For voice controls, Bluetooth® pairing is required. The voice control microphone on the remote allows users to change channels, adjust volume, search for programs, and access internet searches. The effectiveness of voice control can be influenced by the viewing environment and the user's voice characteristics. If multiple Bluetooth® devices are connected, voice controls might not function optimally.

Power Management:

The TV consumes some power even in Off mode if the mains plug remains connected. For prolonged periods of non-use, it is recommended to remove the mains plug from the wall socket. The TV has an auto power standby function and will enter standby mode if no operation is performed for 4 hours or if no signal is received for 10 minutes (configurable in the Timer menu).

Safety Precautions:

Users are warned against removing covers or modifying the TV, as live parts are accessible. The TV should not be exposed to rain or excessive moisture, and objects filled with liquid should not be placed on it. Foreign objects should not be inserted into air vents. Proper ventilation is crucial to prevent overheating; sufficient space (at least 10 cm) should be maintained around the TV, and vents should not be blocked. When moving the TV, at least two people are required, and all cables should be disconnected. The screen should not be held directly when moving the TV to avoid damage. Batteries for the remote control should be kept out of reach of children and disposed of correctly.

Maintenance Features

Panel Maintenance:

Regular panel maintenance is essential for OLED TVs. This process automatically starts and takes approximately 10 minutes. During maintenance, the LED indicator turns orange. It is crucial to turn off the TV using the remote control or Power On/Off switch before panel maintenance. During this time, users should avoid touching or exerting pressure on the screen.

Cleaning:

For regular care, the display panel, cabinet, and pedestal should be gently wiped with a soft cloth to remove dirt or fingerprints. For stubborn dirt, first clean the dust, then dampen a soft cloth with clean water or diluted neutral detergent (1 part detergent to 100 parts water), wring it out firmly, wipe the dirt, and finally wipe away all moisture.

Important cleaning cautions:

  • Do not use hard cloths or rub the surface too hard to avoid scratches.
  • Avoid insect repellent, solvent, thinner, or other volatile substances, as these can degrade surface quality or cause paint peeling.
  • The display panel is specially treated and can be easily damaged; avoid tapping or scratching it with fingernails or hard objects.
  • Prevent the cabinet and pedestal from prolonged contact with rubber or PVC substances, which can degrade surface quality.

Mains Plug Maintenance:

The mains plug should be wiped with a dry cloth at regular intervals to prevent fire or electrical shock caused by moisture and dust accumulation.

Troubleshooting:

The manual provides a FAQ section for common issues such as the TV not switching on, remote control not working, or unusual images. For more detailed troubleshooting, users can refer to the built-in [HELP] menu. The TV also includes a "Self Test" function to diagnose picture or sound problems. If issues persist, users are advised to contact their local Panasonic dealer.
