appear. Press ENTER. Press STOP to return to
[IDLE].
The configuration code can be changed only at the factory.

TEST / Element Test
Test the Heating Elements and Relays
This test is useful when measuring the wall receptacle
voltage under load, and amperage with an ammeter. On a
multiple-zone kiln, the test helps determine if the relays
and thermocouples are wired to the correct zones. If you
test thermocouples with a cigarette lighter or other heat
source, use this option.
Pointer: Raising the thermocouple temperature
fast with a lighter or propane torch may cause an
[FE4] error. This will not harm the controller,
though. See page 28.
Single-Zone Kiln
1 From [IDLE], press OPTIONS repeatedly until
[TEST] appears.
2 Press ENTER. [POWR] will appear, alternating
with kiln temperature. The elements will turn on
for two minutes. Press any key to abort the test.
Multiple-Zone Kiln
1 From [IDLE] press OPTIONS repeatedly until
[TEST] appears.
2 Press ENTER. [TOP] will appear, alternating with
the temperature of the top zone. The elements will
turn on for two minutes. Then
[MID] will appear,
with temperature for the middle zone, and
[BOT]
with temperature for the bottom zone. (A
two-zone kiln shows only
[TOP] and [BOT]
temperatures.)
3 During the two-minute test, press any key to end a
zone test. The controller will then begin to test the
next zone.
AOP Outlet
After the above test, kilns equipped with the AOP outlet
will display
[J3-3] for two minutes to test power to the AOP
outlet. If your kiln has 2 AOP outlets, the second AOP will
turn on after the first.
RST / Reset
Reset the Controller to Most Factory Defaults
Reset the controller to a known state in case the control
-
ler locks up, the memory is corrupted, or you have made
many changes and would like to clear your settings.
Reset does the following:
I
Resets the LOCK passcode to 3.
I
Selects Type-S thermocouple.
I
Selects °F.
I
Erases a cone offset.
I
Erases a thermocouple offset.
I
Erases Ramp-Hold User programs stored in memory.
I
Changes Temperature Deviation [TEDE]] back to the
factory setting of 100°F / 56°C.
CAUTION: If your kiln uses a Type-K thermo
-
couple, the Sentry will underfire after a reset! Use
the Thermocouple Option (page 21) to select
Type-K again.
1 From [IDLE], press OPTIONS repeatedly until
[RST] appears.
2 Press ENTER. Use the 1 or 2 key to select [NO] or
[YES].
3 After selecting [YES]], press ENTER. [WAIT] will
appear, then
[IDLE].
4 After doing a reset, check the [TC] and [F / C] op-
tions to be sure your controller is set for the correct
thermocouple type and fahrenheit or celcius.
Multiple-Zone Options
These options appear only on multiple-zone kilns.
DIFF / Zone Temperature Difference
View Maximum Temperature Spread
For a 2-zone or 3-zone kiln, this option shows tempera
-
ture difference between the top and bottom zones. If the
temperature shown is larger than expected, go to option
T123 to view the temperature of each zone.
1 Press OPTIONS repeatedly until [DIFF] appears.
Press ENTER.
2 The maximum difference in temperature between
the top and bottom zones will display. (Example:
[-003] = 3°)
T123 / Zone Temperature Display
View Temperature of Each Zone
1 Press OPTIONS repeatedly until [T123] appears.
Press ENTER.
2 The temperature for each zone will display one af
-
ter the other, cycling for one minute. Then normal
temperature display will return. For example:
I
Top zone: [TC 1] [1250]
I
Middle zone: [TC 2] [1251]
I
Bottom zone: [TC 3] [1249]
26 Cone-Fire / Ramp-Hold Do not leave your kiln unattended during operation.
