Overview

The provided document describes the CCV Replacement Filter, designed for CCV4500, CCV6000, CCV8000, and CCV12000 Closed Crankcase Ventilation Systems. This filter is a critical component in maintaining engine health and environmental compliance.

Function Description

The CCV Replacement Filter is part of a broader Racor Closed Crankcase Ventilation (CCV) system that performs several key functions:

  • Reduces Oil Consumption: It separates oil from crankcase gases, returning the separated oil to the sump. This process helps to minimize oil loss and consumption.
  • Prevents Fouling: The high-efficiency filter prevents the fouling of critical engine components such as the turbocharger and aftercooler, which can otherwise be damaged by oil mist and contaminants from crankcase gases.
  • Environmental Compliance: Filtered crankcase gas is vented back into the engine intake system for re-combustion. This prevents the release of pollutants into the environment, contributing to cleaner emissions.
  • Maintains Engine Cleanliness: By effectively filtering crankcase gases, the system helps to keep the engine compartment and its components clean, reducing the build-up of sludge and deposits.

Important Technical Specifications

The document does not list specific technical specifications like dimensions, materials, or filtration efficiency ratings for the filter itself. However, it is designed for use with specific Racor CCV systems: CCV4500, CCV6000, CCV8000, and CCV12000. The visual diagram of the CCV8000 unit shows the filter as a cylindrical component housed within a larger assembly, indicating a robust design for industrial or heavy-duty applications. The system includes various O-rings (Head/Housing O-ring, Filter O-ring) for sealing, and a wear pad/spacer at the bottom of the sump, which are crucial for proper operation and longevity.

Usage Features

The CCV system is designed for continuous operation, providing ongoing filtration and crankcase ventilation. A key usage feature is the Filter Change Indicator. This indicator is a visual cue that extends into a clear dome. When the indicator is fully extended while the engine is idling, it signals that the filter requires replacement. This feature simplifies maintenance scheduling and prevents premature or delayed filter changes, ensuring optimal system performance. The system is intended to be integrated into the engine's crankcase ventilation pathway.

Maintenance Features

The document provides clear, step-by-step instructions for replacing the CCV filter, highlighting its user-friendly maintenance design:

  1. Engine Shutdown and Drain Time: Before replacement, the engine must be shut down, and a five-minute waiting period is recommended to allow the filter to drain, minimizing mess and ensuring safety.
  2. Housing Removal: The housing is easily removed by unlocking release clamps, providing direct access to the filter.
  3. Filter and O-ring Removal: The dirty filter and its associated O-ring are removed from the housing and should be disposed of properly.
  4. Drain Line Inspection: Users are instructed to inspect the drain line inside the housing for any obstructions, ensuring proper oil return to the sump.
  5. Surface Cleaning: Mating surfaces should be carefully cleaned to ensure a proper seal with the new components.
  6. O-ring Lubrication and Installation: New O-rings must be lubricated with clean motor oil before installation onto the filter and housing. This step is crucial for achieving a good seal and preventing leaks.
  7. Wear Pad/Spacer Verification: If applicable, users must verify that the wear pad/spacer is correctly installed at the bottom of the sump before placing the new filter.
  8. New Filter Placement: The new filter is placed into the housing, on top of the wear pad/spacer if present.
  9. Housing Replacement: The housing is then replaced, and the release clamps are locked securely.
  10. Leak Check: After installation, the engine should be started to check for any leaks. If leaks are detected, the engine must be turned off, and corrections made as necessary.

The availability of replacement filters and O-rings ensures that the system can be maintained effectively over its lifespan. The clear instructions and visual indicator contribute to a straightforward maintenance process, minimizing downtime and ensuring the continued efficiency of the CCV system. The design emphasizes ease of access and replacement for routine servicing.
