Overview

The Pataco TURTLE is a security device designed to protect merchandise from theft, offering a multi-alarm technology and various application methods. It is available in SI8S and SI8M TURTLE models.

Function Description

The Pataco TURTLE acts as an anti-theft alarm system for merchandise. Its core function is to trigger an alarm when unauthorized attempts are made to remove or tamper with the protected item. The device incorporates a "Multi Alarm Technology" with several alarm triggers:

  • Alarm 1 (EAS System Trigger): When armed, the TURTLE can trigger Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) systems if the protected merchandise passes through an EAS gate without being deactivated. This indicates that the item is still secured and has not been legitimately purchased.
  • Alarms 2-4 (Anti-Tamper): The TURTLE is equipped with anti-tamper features. If the sensor wire is cut or damaged, the device will activate a full alarm. This prevents thieves from disabling the security by simply cutting the attached wire.
  • Pre-Alarm: A small movement of the TURTLE device will trigger a pre-alarm, consisting of three beeps. This serves as a deterrent, alerting potential thieves that the item is protected and that further tampering will result in a full alarm.

The device also includes a movement sensor, which likely contributes to its pre-alarm and anti-tamper capabilities. An LED indicator and a speaker provide visual and audible feedback on the device's status, such as when it is armed, alarming, or has a low battery.

Usage Features

The Pataco TURTLE offers versatile application methods to secure various types of merchandise:

Application with Packing Strap

This method is ideal for items that can be secured with a packing strap.

  1. Preparation: Remove the transportation security clip from the TURTLE.
  2. Attachment: Insert the base plate of the TURTLE under the cross of a packing strap, ensuring the strap is properly seated in the base plate's slot.
  3. Securing: Close the TURTLE onto the base plate and press down until it locks. A single LED flash and a beep from the speaker confirm that the merchandise is protected.

Application with Glue Stripe

This method is suitable for items where a direct adhesive attachment is preferred.

  1. Preparation: Clean the surface of both the merchandise and the TURTLE with an alcohol pad to ensure maximum adhesive force.
  2. Stripe Placement: Take a glue stripe, remove one release paper, and stick the stripe into the slot of the base plate.
  3. Tape Clamp: Place the end of the glue stripe into the tape clamp on the TURTLE.
  4. Final Attachment: Close the TURTLE, remove the second release paper from the glue stripe, and then attach the TURTLE onto the merchandise. Press down firmly to ensure a tight stick. A single LED flash and a beep from the speaker confirm protection.

Application with Sensor

This method provides enhanced security by using an external sensor cable.

  1. Initial Steps: Follow steps 1 to 6 of the "Application with Glue Stripe" method to attach the TURTLE to the merchandise.
  2. Sensor Connection: Plug the end of the sensor cable into the socket on the TURTLE.
  3. Cable Management: Wire the sensor cable around the strain-relief feature to prevent accidental disconnections or damage.
  4. Sensor Head Attachment: Remove the release paper from the sensor head and stick it onto the merchandise. For better holding, a cable tie can be used (optional).
  5. Final Securing: Close the TURTLE and press down until it locks, confirming protection.

Sensitivity Adjustment

The TURTLE features a sensitivity switch, allowing users to adjust its responsiveness to movement:

  • Position 1 (Low Sensitive): Allows for larger movements without triggering an alarm, suitable for items that might experience minor jostling.
  • Position 2 (Medium Sensitive): The default "delivery status" setting, offering a balanced response to movement.
  • Position 3 (High Sensitive): Triggers an alarm with small movements, ideal for highly sensitive items or environments where any movement is suspicious.

Maintenance Features

The Pataco TURTLE is designed for ease of use and maintenance, particularly concerning battery replacement and release mechanisms.

How to Stop Alarming

To stop an active alarm:

  1. Detacher Placement: Place the magnetic detacher onto the clutch mechanism of the TURTLE.
  2. Opening the Device: Press the detacher to open the TURTLE. The alarm will cease immediately.

How to Change Battery

Battery replacement is a straightforward process:

  1. Screw Removal: Use a screwdriver to remove the screw from the battery cover.
  2. Cover Opening: Open the battery cover as indicated by the device's design.
  3. Battery Replacement: Change the CR2450 battery.

The device includes a "Low battery indicator" where the LED flashes 10 times continuously when armed, signaling that the battery needs to be replaced.

How to Release – Application with Packing Strap

To release the TURTLE from merchandise secured with a packing strap:

  1. Opening the Device: Place the magnetic detacher onto the clutch and press to open the TURTLE.
  2. Removal from Strap: Take the TURTLE out from the packing strap.
  3. Transport: The carton box can then be used as a transport device to move the item from the cashier to stock.

How to Release – Application with Glue Stripe

To release the TURTLE from merchandise secured with a glue stripe:

  1. Opening the Device: Place the ejector onto the clutch and press to open the TURTLE.
  2. Stripe Removal: Take out the end of the glue stripe from the tape clamp. Hold the TURTLE tightly and pull the glue stripe horizontally to detach it.
  3. Device Removal: Take the TURTLE off the merchandise.

How to Release the Sensing Head

If the sensing head was glued to the merchandise, it can be removed:

  1. Rotation: Take off the glued sensor by rotating the sensor head.

Working Indicator

The TURTLE provides clear visual and audible feedback on its operational status:

  • Locking: When the TURTLE is locked, the LED flashes once, and the speaker beeps once.
  • Armed (No Alarm): When the TURTLE is armed but not alarming, there is no LED flash.
  • Alarming: During an alarm, the speaker beeps continuously, and the LED flashes.
  • Pre-Alarm: During a pre-alarm, the speaker beeps three times.

The Pataco TURTLE is designed to be a robust and adaptable security solution, offering multiple attachment methods, clear alarm indicators, and user-friendly maintenance procedures.
