Do you have a question about the Patton SmartNode 4950 and is the answer not in the manual?
The SmartNode 4950 Series is a multi-port T1/E1/PRI VoIP Enterprise Gateway Router designed to integrate legacy telephone systems with PSTN and VoIP networks, facilitating migration to unified communications.
The SmartNode 4950 Gateway-Router combines Universal SIP Trunking, IP routing, VPN/Security, and Quality of Service with high-quality Voice over IP (VoIP) delivered on 1 to 4 Primary Rate Interfaces (PRI T1/E1). It supports up to 120 simultaneous voice or T.38 fax calls across its T1/E1/PRI ports and dual Gigabit Ethernet ports, allowing the use of any CODEC or fax on any port at any time. The device acts as a Unified Communications Agent, providing any-to-any multi-path switching with VoIP and data survivability, VoIP-over-VPN security with AES/DES strong encryption, Internet Key Exchange (IKE), and SIP Registrar capabilities. It offers Universal SIP and T.38 Support with softswitch-certified signaling across T1 RBS CAS, ISDN PRI, Q.SIG, SIP, and H.323. For secure, toll-quality VoIP, it utilizes Patton's DownStreamQoS™ and Voice-over-VPN with adaptive traffic management and shaping. The router also includes IP Routing features such as RIP v1/v2, VRRP, policy-based routing, and loopback interface. Transparent Telephony Features enable complex number manipulation and mapping for seamless integration with existing infrastructures, including CLIP, CLIR, hold, and transfer. An optional High Precision Clock delivers DECT PBX interoperability and reliable fax performance. Some models also feature G.SHDSL.bis Broadband Access, functioning as a complete access router with an integrated G.SHDSL.bis WAN interface, providing symmetrical throughput up to 11.4 Mbps over four wires or 5.7 Mbps over two wires, and supporting ATM QoS with multiple PVCs.
The SmartNode 4950 is designed for easy installation and configuration. It can be connected to a laptop PC for initial setup, allowing users to configure IP addresses, login credentials, and network settings. The device supports loading configurations via TFTP or serial link. For G.SHDSL models, basic configuration for PPPoE and permanent virtual circuits (PVCs) is detailed, including commands for setting up PVC channels in bridged Ethernet mode or with PPPoE. The device features front and rear panel LEDs to indicate power, run status, VoIP link activity, Ethernet link and speed, Ethernet activity, PRI link/status, and G.SHDSL activity/link. The factory default configuration includes pre-set IP addresses and network masks for Ethernet interfaces, with DHCP server on LAN and DHCP client on WAN.
Management and provisioning are facilitated through a Web-based GUI, an industry-standard CLI with local console (RJ-45, RJ-231, 9600 bps, 8, N, 1), and remote Telnet access. Firmware can be loaded via HTTP or TFTP. SNMP v1 agent (MIB II and private MIB) is supported for network management. Built-in diagnostic tools (trace, debug) are available for troubleshooting. Secure Auto-provisioning simplifies large-scale deployments. The device's Bootloader allows for loading new application images (SmartWare) via TFTP or serial link, and includes commands for managing application images in permanent memory. Diagnostics commands are provided to check DSL type, line-state, version, and debug DSL setup. Troubleshooting steps for DSL connections include verifying link status, checking PPPoE details, and using debug commands. Patton Electronics offers comprehensive technical support via online resources, email, and telephone, with dedicated support for the USA and Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). The product comes with a one-year warranty covering defects in workmanship and materials, with options for repair or replacement. RMA procedures are in place for returns and warranty service.
