Installation and operating instructions

Carefully read and follow all safety instructions in this manual

and on the pump.

Before installing the device, read the instructions

carefully. The installer and the nal user must

observe the laws and standards, and make sure

that they comply with relative local regulations. The

device is assembled in compliance with existing

community laws and the Manufacturer declines any

liability in case of damage caused by incorrect use

or use in conditions diering from those indicated

on the nameplate and in these instructions.

Device for control and protection

of the electric pump

This is the safety alert symbol. When you

see this symbol on your pump control or in

this manual, look for one of the following

signal words and be alert to the potential

for personal injury:

• DANGER: warns about hazards that will cause

serious personal injury, death, or major property

damage if ignored.

• WARNING: warns about hazards that can cause

serious personal injury, death, or major property

damage if ignored.

• CAUTION: warns about hazards that will or can

cause minor personal injury or major property

damage if ignored.

• NOTICE: indicates special instructions which are

important but not related to hazards.

CAUTION

• Keep the work area clean, well-lit, and uncluttered.

• Keep safety labels clean and in good condition.

• Wear safety glasses while installing or performing

maintenance on the device.

• Do not run pump dry. Fill the pump with water before

starting or it will be damaged.

• Make sure all ELECTRICAL POWER IS OFF before

connecting any electrical wires. Follow all device

wiring instructions provided in the “Wiring” section

of this manual.

qualified personnel. Failure to install it in compliance

with national and local electrical codes may

result in electrical shock or hazard, unsatisfactory

performance, or equipment failure. Installation

information is available through pump manufacturers

and distributors. This equipment must not be used by

children or persons with reduced physical, sensory,

or mental abilities, or lacking in experience and

expertise unless supervised or instructed. Children

may not use the equipment, nor may they play with

the equipment or in the immediate vicinity.

If the power cord is damaged, it must only be

replaced by qualified personnel.

Function Description

The BEST-CONTROL device serves as a comprehensive control unit for pumps, managing their start-up, shutdown, and protection against various operational anomalies. It is designed to maintain a consistent water column and prevent issues such as dry running, excessive pressure, and electrical faults. The device incorporates an automatic restart feature in case of water shortage, attempting to restart the pump multiple times before entering a permanent lockout state. This intelligent control helps prolong the pump's lifespan and ensures continuous water supply.

Important Technical Specifications

The device operates on a wide range of main voltage inputs, including 115 Vac - 230 Vac for single-phase systems and 230 Vac - 400 Vac for three-phase systems, with an acceptable voltage fluctuation of ±10%. It supports frequencies of 50 - 60 Hz.

For single-phase 115 V systems, the maximum current is 20 A at 115 Vac / 20 A at 230 Vac. For three-phase 230 V systems, the maximum current is 20 A at 230 Vac / 20 A at 400 Vac.

The maximum power supported varies by voltage and phase:

4 kW (5.5 HP) at 230 Vac / 5.5 kW (7.5 HP) at 400 Vac for three-phase.

The device is designed for Type 1.B operation, with a maximum operating pressure of 174 psi (12 bar). It can withstand a maximum operating temperature of 149°F (65°C) and a minimum fluid temperature of 77°F (25°C). The minimum flow rate required for operation is 0.26 GPM (1 l/min).

Electrical connections are made via male connectors, specifically 1/4" NPT / Mod. MGF NPT 1 1/4". The device boasts a protection degree of Type 4, indicating its resistance to solid objects and water ingress.

Usage Features

The BEST-CONTROL is designed for easy installation and user interaction. It can be installed in surface-mountable enclosures, making it suitable for various environments, including basements, tanks, and filter systems. It features a control panel with LED indicators for "Power ON" (green), "Pump running" (yellow), "Water shortage" (red), and a "Restart" button. The restart button allows manual intervention to reset the device after a fault or to initiate a pump cycle.

The device offers adjustable restart pressure settings, ranging from 22 psi to 42 psi (1.5 to 3 bar), allowing users to fine-tune the pump's operation according to specific system requirements. This adjustment is crucial for optimizing water delivery and preventing unnecessary pump cycling.

Maintenance Features

Routine maintenance involves checking the electrical wiring and ensuring the water column is not too high. If the pump fails to start, checking the electrical wiring is the first troubleshooting step. If the pump starts but fails to restart, it indicates a high water column. Intermittent pump operation suggests a system loss less than the minimum flow, while a complete pump failure to stop points to a system loss greater than the minimum flow. Pump jams require suction difficulties or pump obstruction checks for debris.

The device is designed for durability and ease of service. In case of a water shortage, the device will automatically make 10 double attempts to restart over 24 hours. If the fault persists, the device will enter a permanent lockout, indicated by a red flashing LED. The user can always try to reset and restart the device at any time by pressing the Restart button. If, after 10 restart attempts, the device remains inactive for 24 consecutive hours, it will carry out a start-up of the pump motor for about 5 seconds. In case of a temporary blackout, the device will automatically reset once electricity returns.

The device comes with a 1-year warranty from the installation date, covering defects in materials and workmanship. This warranty underscores the manufacturer's confidence in the product's quality and reliability.
