Overview

The IntellipH Automatic pH Dispenser is a device designed to automatically maintain the pH level in pools and spas by dispensing muriatic acid. It works in conjunction with IntelliChlor® chlorine generators and can be integrated with IntelliTouch® and EasyTouch® automation systems.

Function Description

The IntellipH controller adds muriatic acid to the pool water every hour. The amount of acid dispensed is determined by user settings, ranging from 1% to 100% in 1% increments. If set to 0%, no acid will be dispensed. After each dose, a 60-minute countdown timer is displayed on the control panel. When the timer reaches zero, the pump on the storage canister activates, and acid is injected into the pool's main waterline. When connected to an IntelliChlor cell, the IntellipH controller takes over the sanitizer output adjustment, disabling the "More" and "Less" buttons on the IntelliChlor cell itself.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Input Power: 28-42VDC, 1A. Connects to IntelliChlor power center only.
  • Acid Storage: Four-gallon storage canister with a built-in pump.
  • Tubing: 15 ft acid-resistant tubing from canister to cell.
  • Saddle Clamps: Two saddle clamps (1.5" and 2") for mounting the injection fitting.
  • pH Dispense Range: 1% - 100% in 1% increments.
  • Chlorine Output Range (when connected to IntelliChlor): 0% - 100% in 1% increments.
  • Water Temperature Cutoff: Displays "COLD WATER WILL NOT DISPENSE" if water temperature is 52°F (12.2°C) or below.

Usage Features

  • Control Panel: Features a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) with backlighting for easy viewing of menus and status messages.
  • System Status LED: Indicates normal operation (green) or error conditions (red).
  • Menu Button: Accesses and exits the menu. Allows scrolling through selections using "More" or "Less" buttons. Settings are saved permanently even after power off.
  • Less / More Buttons: Adjust or change settings within the menu, and directly control the hourly acid dispense amount (1% - 100%).
  • Enter Button: Selects menu choices, saves changes, or displays system settings when in normal mode.
  • Add Acid Manually: Allows manual dispensing of acid for 60 seconds. A countdown timer and running total of acid dispensed (approximately 4 oz.) are displayed.
  • Dispense Amount Setting: Controls the hourly acid dose size. Factory setting is 50%. Users should check pool pH weekly and adjust this value to maintain a pH of 7.2 to 7.4.
  • Integration with Automation Systems: When connected to IntelliTouch® or EasyTouch® systems, IntellipH monitors communication and adjusts IntelliChlor cell sanitizer output via its own menu.
  • Safety Features:
    • If the automation system sends a 0% output command to IntelliChlor, IntellipH displays "SYSTEM OFF, WILL NOT DISPENSE" and stops acid dispensing.
    • In SPA MODE or if IntelliChlor output is set to 1%-5%, IntellipH displays "SPA MODE, WILL NOT DISPENSE" and stops acid dispensing.
    • "COLD WATER WILL NOT DISPENSE" message appears if water temperature is too low.

Maintenance Features

  • Troubleshooting Guide: Provides solutions for common issues such as high/low pool pH, acid pump not running, and system status light errors.
  • History Data: Allows users to view the number of hourly dispenses performed since installation, useful for verifying acid dispensing.
  • Winterization: Recommends removing the IntellipH panel from the wall and storing it in a safe place when the pool is closed for winter, similar to IntelliChlor winterization.
  • Acid Handling Precautions: Emphasizes the importance of wearing rubber gloves and eye protection when handling muriatic acid, working in well-ventilated areas, and always adding acid to water, not water to acid. Provides detailed safety instructions for inhalation, ingestion, skin contact, eye contact, and proper disposal of muriatic acid.
  • Chlorine Container Safety: Warns against mixing chemicals with chlorine or chlorine residue in containers to prevent deadly gas or explosions.
