Stainlesssteelisa“passive”metalbecauseitcontainsother
metalslikechromium,nickelandmanganesethatstabilizethe
atoms.Chromiumprovidesaninvisiblepassivelmthatcovers
thesteelsurface,acngasashieldagainstcorrosion.Aslongas
thelmisintactandnotcontaminated,themetalispassiveand
stainless.Ifthepassivelmofstainlesssteelhasbeenbroken,
equipmentcanstarttocorrodeandrust.
Threematerialsorprocessescanbreakdownstainlesssteel’s
passivelayerandallowcorrosiontooccur:
• Mechanical abrasion
• Depositsandwater
• Chlorides

andtablesalt.Householdandindustrialcleanersaretheworst
oenders.

Usenon-abrasivetoolstocleanstainlesssteelproducts.So
clothsandplascscouringpadswillnotharmthesteel’spassive
layer.
Cleanwithpolishlines.Somestainlesssteelshavevisible
polishinglinesor“grain”.Whenvisiblelinesarepresent,always
scrubinamoonparalleltothelines.Whenthegraincannot
beseen,polishinaconsistentstraightpaernandnotina
circularmoon.
Usealkaline,alkalinechlorinatedornon-chloridecontaining
cleaners.Whilemanytradionalcleanersareloadedwith
chlorides,theindustryisprovidinganever-increasingchoiceof
non-chloridecleaners.Ifyouarenotsureofchloridecontent
inthecleanerbeingused,contactyourcleanersupplier.Ifyour
presentcleanercontainschlorides,askyoursupplierforan
alternave.Avoidcleanerscontainingquaternarysalt;italso
canaackstainlesssteelandcausepingandrusng.
Keepfoodequipmentclean.Usealkaline,alkalinechlorinated
ornon-chloridecleanersatrecommendedstrength.Clean
frequentlytoavoidbuild-upofhard,stubbornstains.The
singlemostlikelycauseofdamageischloridesinthewater.
Remember,addingheattocleanersthatcontainchlorides
dramacallyincreasestheireectonstainlesssteel.
Ifchlorinatedcleanersareused,immediatelyrinseandwipe
equipmentandsuppliesdry.Thesooneryouwipestanding
water,especiallywhenitcontainscleaningagents,thebeer.
Aerwipingequipmentdown,allowittoairdry.Oxygenhelps
maintainthestainlesssteelpassivelm.




Glass panels may be cleaned using any standard glass cleaner
availableonthemarket.
Tocleaninteriorandexteriornon-metallicsurfacesand
removableparts,washwithmildsoluonofsoapandlukewarm
waterwithalilebakingsoda.Rinseanddrythoroughly.
Avoidgengwateronthelights,controllers,fanmotorsand
unnishedwoodwinerackfaces.

Thecondenser(locatedbehindthefrontgrillecover)should
becleanedeverythree(3)months.Useasobristlebrushand
vacuumtoremovedustandlint.

