Overview

Petrainer Rechargeable and Waterproof LCD Remote Pet Training System

The Petrainer Rechargeable and Waterproof LCD Remote Pet Training System is a comprehensive tool designed to assist pet owners in controlling and training their pets without the need for a leash, offering a range of up to 328 yards (300m). This system is proven to be safe, comfortable, and effective for pets weighing over 8 pounds. By consistently and correctly using the Remote Trainer, owners can correct various misbehaviors and teach basic obedience commands.

Function Description

The core functionality of the system revolves around a Remote Transmitter and a Receiver Collar. The Remote Transmitter sends a signal to the Receiver Collar, activating it to deliver various forms of stimulation. The system offers 100 levels of vibration and 100 levels of static shock (optional), allowing for precise adjustment of stimulation intensity to suit the pet's temperament and training needs. Additionally, a tone button activates an audible tone on the receiver collar, providing an alternative or preliminary cue for the pet.

The system supports training for one or two receiver collars, making it versatile for households with multiple pets. Two pairs of metal prongs (short/long) are included to ensure suitability for dogs with different fur lengths, ensuring effective contact with the pet's skin.

The Remote Transmitter features an LCD display that shows the selected mode (Static, Vibration, Beep, or Light), the intensity level, and the selected channel (Channel 1 or Channel 2 for multiple collars). The "Up/down" buttons allow users to select the intensity level for Vibration and Static Shock. A "Mode" button switches between the four available modes. The "Launch" button sends the chosen signal (stimulation, beep, or light) from the transmitter to the receiver. An LED light button on the transmitter activates an LED light, which can be useful in low-light conditions.

The Receiver Collar is designed to be waterproof, allowing pets to swim while wearing it. It features an On/Off/Encode button, which also serves to enter encoding status for pairing. An indication light on the collar flashes to confirm activation, charging status, and encoding mode. In Light mode, the green LED on the Receiver Collar flashes every second, aiding in locating the pet. When in standby, the green LED flashes every four seconds.

The system incorporates power-saving features to extend battery life. The receiver collar enters a deep sleep mode after 4 minutes of inactivity and is reactivated by any dog movement. The transmitter goes into standby mode after 20 seconds of no operation and deep sleep after 2 minutes. Pressing any button (except the LED light button) wakes the transmitter from standby, while holding the Mode button for 5 seconds awakens it from deep sleep.

Usage Features

Charging: Both the Remote Transmitter and Receiver Collar are rechargeable. The transmitter's red light indicates charging, turning off when fully charged. A low battery indicator symbol appears on the LCD screen when recharging is necessary. For the receiver collar, a red LED light indicates charging, turning green when fully charged. If the receiver collar beeps for 20 seconds upon turning on, it indicates a low battery and requires recharging. It is recommended to fully charge both units before initial use and monthly if stored for extended periods.

Pairing: To pair the Remote Transmitter and Receiver Collar, first power on the receiver collar. Then, press and hold the On/Off button on the collar for 5 seconds until it beeps and its indicating light flashes quickly. Within 10 seconds, press the "Y" button on the Remote Transmitter. Successful pairing is confirmed by another beep from the collar and its indicating light stopping rapid flashing. For a second collar, the process is similar, but the 1/2 button on the transmitter must be pressed to select a different channel.

Testing Functions: The system's functions can be tested to ensure proper operation.

  • Static Shock: Use the provided test bulb by placing its metal wire against the receiver collar's contact points. Switch the transmitter to Shock Mode, ensure the stimulation level is not zero, and press the "Y" button. The test bulb will flash, confirming the shock function works.
  • Vibration: Switch the transmitter to Vibrate mode, ensure the stimulation level is not zero, and press the "Y" button. The receiver collar will vibrate.
  • Beep: Switch the transmitter to Beep mode and press the "Y" button. The receiver collar will emit a beep sound.
  • LED Light: Press the LED light button on the transmitter, and the LED light will turn on.

Collar Fit: Proper fit is crucial for effective training and to prevent skin irritation. The contact points must have direct contact with the pet's skin on the underside of the neck. For pets with long or thick coats, the longer contact points should be used. The collar should fit snugly, allowing one finger to fit between the strap and the pet's neck. It is important to check the fit regularly, especially as the pet becomes more comfortable with the collar. The collar is not designed for constant wear and should not be left on for more than 12 hours per day.

Training Tips: Training sessions should be short (10-15 minutes) and positive, focusing on one command at a time. It is advisable to start training in a familiar, enclosed environment. A long leash fastened to a non-metallic collar can aid learning initially. It is recommended to teach commands first before reinforcing them with the remote trainer. Vibration and Audio modes are generally more useful for basic obedience. Positive reinforcement with praise and reward for desired behaviors is encouraged. Over-correcting the dog should be avoided. If the dog appears perplexed, shift focus to a familiar command. Consistency in corrections for misbehavior is key, delivered without emotion, followed by immediate praise for correct decisions. The system is not suitable for correcting aggression or biting behavior; professional help should be sought for such issues.

Maintenance Features

Regular Maintenance:

  • Contact Points: Check the tightness of the contact points weekly. Clean them weekly with alcohol.
  • Dog's Neck: Check the dog's neck for any signs of irritation and wash the neck area weekly with a damp cloth.
  • Collar Repositioning: Reposition the collar on the pet's neck every 1 to 2 hours when possible.
  • Fit Check: Regularly check the collar's fit to prevent excessive pressure.
  • Skin Examination: Examine the contact area daily for signs of a rash or sore. If a rash or sore is found, discontinue use until the skin has healed. If the condition persists beyond 48 hours, consult a veterinarian.
  • Battery Removal: When cleaning the contact points, it is important to remove the battery and discharge the collar before touching them.

Storage: If the transmitter and receiver collar are to be stored for a long time, both should be fully charged before being left idle and recharged once every month to maintain battery health.

Troubleshooting: The manual provides guidance for common issues such as the pet not responding, the remote transmitter not working, or the receiver collar not working after charging. Solutions include ensuring units are charged, powered on, and paired correctly, checking stimulation levels, restarting devices, and ensuring proper contact point placement. For issues with the receiver collar after charging, verifying successful charging (red LED turning off) and re-powering the collar are suggested. If the collar beeps for 20 seconds, it indicates a low battery. If the receiver collar is tested by hand or leg, both electrodes must be touched simultaneously for stimulation to be felt.
