nulliesthespecialheattreatment
oftherails,greatlyreducingtheten-
silestrengthoftheframerail.Ifa
framememberbecomescracked
fromoverloading,fatigue,surface
damageoracollision,theonly
permanentrepairistoreplacethe
damagedframememberwithanew
part.
Inanemergency,atemporaryrepair
maybeperformed.Observethe
followingprecautionstoprotect
electronicsystemsduringwelding
operations.Emergencywelding
proceduresarefurtherexplainedinthe
maintenancemanuals.Pleasereferto
theorderinginformationontheback
covertoobtainamaintenancemanual.
WeldingPrecautions
Intheeventofemergencyweldingofa
framerailandwhenweldinganyother
partofyourtruckoranycomponent
attachedtoyourtruck,observethe
followingprecautionsbeforewelding:
Disconnectallelectronicdevices.
Itisnotpossibletolistallofthe
electronicsthatcouldbeaffected,
butafewexamplesincludethe
following:alternator,engine
ElectronicControlUnit(ECU),
transmissionECU,ABSECU,
navigationdevices,diagnostic
devices,andmonitoringdevices.
Disconnectbatterycablesand
insulatethemfromthevehicle.
DonotusetheECUorengine
groundstudforthegroundofthe
weldingprobe.
Ensurethatthegroundconnection
forthewelderisasclosetothe
